Allegedly

Here is the news as alleged by my informants, I will leave names out of it, figure it out for yourselves.

A Cavalier was busted for distributing some white powder on Campus; word is he claimed to have an addiction, and he is currently living in exile on the west coast.

An explorer was apprehended distributing botanical herbs and was reportedly expelled for his transgressions and had moved west but unlike the Cavalier still within the county. I can only imagine that his father a former keeper of the peace must have been quite embarrassed.

A Bronco with little regard for his instructor feels that his abilities would be better served as a Buccaneer and will find a way to make his move without causing waves if possible. An influential step father will attempt to make the transition seamless, but there are whispers of a rebellion.

A Knight has betrayed his king and left to join his comrades and become a Pirate. Word is it that the Pirate master had his fairy godmother
"The Golden Fairy" push the defection past the 8-track in the summer while few were paying attention.

Posting on this site at times seems irrelevant because of the limited vocabulary of the persons that frequent this site. Vulgarities abound when knowledge is limited. In the event that there are actually some who peruse this site that adhere to the common vernacular spoken by the more edified and gentrified of this region I would like to pose the following questions.

If in fact there has been multiple move-ins, weather there from a magnet, ATRAC, or any other form, why hasn’t anyone questioned it. No matter how diligent the work was done there is still a unique stench of improprieties. 6-8 well known and accomplished wrestlers from around the area and county transferred moved, magnetized, to South Dade over one summer and nary an eye is batted? Somebody bragged that now they are on an even playing field. Maybe for the elite of the state but not for everyone else. Brandon, Oviedo, Columbus, and South Dade, should have their own personal state tournament and leave all the other schools out of it. That would truly be an even playing field.

Columbus once again had the audacity to set up a recruiting booth at the middle school championships and they arrogantly smirked and laughed at their detractors. They acquire an incredible talent from Coral Reef and some complain and question and yet nothing is done by the county and its governing body. They recruited multiple middle school kids and even a state runner-up until his drug problem surfaced, and not a word from Sheryl Golden or her office. There is truly something wrong here and I have held my tongue long enough.

Does anyone else see a double standard being used here? Coach Osorio was fired from Hialeah for having one kid move into his area two years ago. At American he transferred over the summer in shame and one of his many kids had already transferred to that school and once again he was questioned and attacked by his peers, administration, and county. County directed, not school directed, visiting teachers were sent out multiple times to uncover any improprieties committed by the Coach. None were found. All this because of one athlete, while South Dade has 6-7 new state caliber wrestlers who are not only well known but also well accomplished? I have long been a detractor of Coach Osorio but now I pity the Coach because of the double standard so plainly and arrogantly demonstrated by the region and its prominent leaders.

The questions still remains, is there a double standard in the county? Who determines that double standard? Why isn’t anyone up in arms about this?

hey mR. vOcabulary everybody is up iN arms abOut it but how do you prove recruiting? what violations have been commited? do you really think the coacheS at sOuth dade RecruIted these athletes? these kids and their parents went thrOugh the proper channels and jumped through all the hoops so that their kids could attend that school. there is nothing illegal about a kid applying to a magnet program or a kid changing schools because his mother works at that school or if a family buys a house in their school district. unfair yes but illegal no. how has brandon, oviedo, palmetto ridge and all the others gotten away with it all these years, i'll tell you they dotted their i's and crossed their t's. let me use an example that might hit closer to home. how did harris get away with it last year? he probably moved into that school district right? what about garcia? he probably moved back to his original home school. you see when things are done properly there is really nothing anyone can do but cry about stench and improprieties. i get it though if you yell loud enough and often enough about alleged improprieties most people will probably believe you. we do in fact live in a country that believes that you are guilty before proven innocent. you see everyone gets on here and the other site spewing lies about great programs with the hopes that someone will have the balls enough to actually do something about it but when it comes right down to it nobody has anything but hearsay to back up their argument therefore resulting in nothing.

Thank you for your response but you miss the point of my question. If in fact everything was done legitimately then someone should inform and defend those schools. If allegations should prove false then those schools should be allowed to continue their dominance and no asterix placed on their accomplishments. But the question is still there. How does a well established power receive multiple world beaters in one summer and not a single question aired? 7 great wrestlers with pedigree’s move to one very prominent school and no one questions it? No one may ever question it, as is the way here in Dade, but you have to agree that it’s more than just a little coincidence. Maybe it’s retaliation for Columbus’ moves over the summer or maybe it is what it is and all transfers were happenstance. Given the burden of proof these schools may offer convincing documentation and if so then let’s move to another topic. But if a school gets multiple wrestlers from around the county, why didn’t anyone say anything until now. Did anyone question it, did anyone bat an eye? I am not accusing just asking. As for your commentary on the Harris and Garcia situations of last year, the Devils’ advocate shed some interesting light on that subject and you may very well be right. There lies the crux of the matter. One or two kids and the world goes to hell for one coach and program, while 6-8 kids for another and hey it’s all good. I like Balmaceda, much like the Spiderman I enjoy the anonymity of the rafters and gleefully delighted in his winning the state title. Now, these questions arise and his school and his name are being brought up with the likes of Oviedo, Columbus and Brandon? I believe that South Dade has graduated 3 maybe 4 wrestlers from their title winning squad of last year. It is evident that most of the newly touted talent acquired may not see the varsity line up this year but none of that is my question. My question is simply why hasn’t anyone said or done anything for or against South Dade until now.

Anonymous said...

you say no one has asked a question or even batted an eye yet this is your second time asking the same question? why aren't you doing something about it? why are you hoping that someone else will read this and do the dirty work for you. you say posting on this site seems irrelevant because we lack knowledge yet you write two posts asking the uninformed and unknowledgable why things are or aren't happenning. instead of wasting your time writing anonymous posts on this blog why don't you write as elequent and informed as you are to the proper authorities. BUT, you are going to have to SIGN your name, you can't be anonymous. i don't see that being a problem since you are so upset at the alleged improprieties. so here is my advise to you. gather up all of your evidence that proves illegal recruiting, false addresses, photgraphs, video footage, phone calls and such. write a letter, better yet get a group of letters from all of your associates have them sign it and put it in an envelope, stamp it and mail it in.

SO BACK 2 MY OTHER QUESTION NE WUN FIND ERR TIN MAN YET??? NOONE EVEN HELPING GG BUBS andlolatgettingcaughtwithwhite/potggggggggggggggggg

Anonymous said...

I am asking question to see if anyone has asked them before me and I have been unaware. I’m confident that if anyone has asked these questions then it would redundant as well as an act of futility for anyone including my person to re-hash those same questions. I’m also quite that you would agree that writing letters and getting video footage and evidence of wrongdoing would rank amongst the dirties and most scoundrel moves committed by anyone, although I have heard of it done to other coaches in years past. Hiding behind anonymous post and lambasting unfounded accusations is easy enough for less intelligent beings to do and I am sure that you would agree that I am not one of those who is accusing anyone of anything. I would like for it to be clear, I am not above or below writing inquisitive letter of inquiry to the proper authorities and signing my name on it if the need arises. There is no shame or disgrace in asking for explanations for events and situations encountered in this county. No one dared to ask questions in other counties and monopolies were created that hurt many programs including some here in Dade county.

Personally I highly doubt that so many kids transferred without anyone crying foul. That is the point of my questions. If someone has already checked these individual situations out then state the facts and let’s move on to other topics. There are some people who don’t share the same love of clear, concise, and conscientious language that I do but there some out there. I am befuddled by their silence. The Devil’s Advocate, Coach KW, Spiderman, Doctor Doom, Moon Knight, Venom, Iron man, and Deco Jones are amongst some of the eloquent writers on this blog. I had hoped that one of them would have come up and stated some defense or some equivalent for Columbus and South Dade. I still sit here in hopes that these allegations were investigated and found proper and legal in every sense. If no one has done their homework then I think you would agree that it would highly inexcusable for anyone coach, parent, AD, principal, or any person to allow such perceived injustice without inquiring about it. Would you silently sit there and allow such callousness to pass without questioning it? If my ancient memory serves me well South Miami believes they had lost a real and honest shot at a state title for not standing up and questioning some moves committed by a fellow county school.

Something to chew on:

Transfers -

11.4.2 A student who enrolls in a member school following his/her initial enrollment
in, or engagement in an athletic practice at, another school for that school
year shall be ineligible to represent the new school he/she is attending for the duration
of the school year. This rule shall not apply if the change of attendance from
one school to another is accompanied by a corresponding change in residence on
the part of the student’s parent(s) or other individual with whom the student has
lived continuously for a full calendar year, which makes it necessary for him/her to
attend a different school.

11.4.3 The provisions of Article 11.4.2 may be waived if the benefit of athletic
eligibility is requested in writing by the principal of the school to which he/she
transfers and the principal of the school from which he/she transfers consents to
such waiver in writing on a form to be furnished by the Executive Director. To
be effective as a waiver of the provisions of Article 11.4.2, the properly executed
original form must be filed in the office of this Association together with the annual
eligibility report for the requesting school. Such waiver is not effective until both
the annual eligibility report and the original application for waiver of the transfer
rule are received in the office of this Association. A principal should consider not
approving an application for waiver of the transfer rule when he/she has evidence
that reasonably leads him/her to believe that:
(a) the student is being recruited;
(b) the student is transferring in whole or in part for athletic reasons; or
(c) the student is transferring because of disciplinary reasons and/or misconduct.
HOWEVER, a student who transfers to a member school without a corresponding
change of residence on the part of the student’s parent(s) or other individual with
whom the student has lived continuously for a full calendar year, which makes it
necessary for him/her to attend a different school, on or after the beginning of any
sports season (first day of practice) shall not be eligible to compete in that sport for
the duration of that school year.

11.4.13 A student who transfers to a new school within one calendar year of the
relocation of his/her coach to that school without a corresponding change in residence
shall be considered to have transferred for athletic reasons and shall not be
eligible to participate in the sport(s) coached by that coach for one calendar year
from the date of enrollment in the new school.

A bit more:

Policy 16, B3:
Special Schools: A student-athlete who is enrolled in an alternative
school, a school for gifted students, a non-member magnet school with no athletic
program or a vocational-technical school may be eligible to represent in interscholastic
athletic competition the public school in whose zone the student-athlete
resides provided the special school is under the supervision and jurisdiction of the
District School Superintendent, and the District School Superintendent submits a
written request to the FHSAA Office for approval of the student-athlete’s participation
at his/her home public school.

Policy 17
1. A student who transfers on or after the starting date of a sports season
without physically changing his or her residence will be ineligible to participate
in all sports played during that season at the new school. The starting date of a
season is defined as the first day of practice as permitted by the FHSAA standardized
calendar. See the FHSAA Planning Calendar for the first day of practice for
each sport in a given school year.
2. The FHSAA will consider the effective date of a transfer as the date the
student enrolls in the new school. Neither the date of withdrawal from the previous
school nor the date on which a blue waiver is initiated will be considered as the
effective date of a transfer. For example, if a student withdraws from School A on
Wednesday, Aug. 1, and enrolls in School B on Friday, Aug. 3, the student will be
eligible to participate in athletics at School B during the fall season upon execution
of a properly completed blue waiver. However, if the student withdraws from
School A on Wednesday, Aug. 1, but does not enroll in School B until Monday,
Aug. 6, or thereafter, the student will be ineligible to participate in all fall sports
at School B for that season, even with a properly executed blue waiver. The blue
waiver will, however, enable the student to participate in athletics at School B
during the winter and spring seasons. Obviously, failure to obtain a blue waiver
will render the student ineligible in all sports for the duration of that school year.

South Dade has dotted their i's, crossed their t's and has yet to setup a booth at the middle school tournaments.

Their magnet is truly pulling strong and will only make them a much deeper program.

From what I understand, they will be taking in some fresh middle school blood next year from somewhere not expected.

More to come - maybe.

DA,

Well stated and good points all around. This is clearly a case where an old adage fits perfectly; can you guess what the adage might be?

How can you fault a family for wanting what is best for their kid? If a parent thinks south dade is the best place for their son so be it. Now, there is a way for them to legally go there without having to falsify an address. What is a coach supposed to do turn them away?

South Dade has won 8 state titles before they were a magnet school now two weeks into the new school year everybody is going to piss and moan about recruiting.

"Build it and they will come". Well they have built it and now kids are starting to come. I am surprised it took this long for them to get a huge influx of kids. It might not be fair but it is legal.

They are doing things right and people want to come on here and dog them. Ponder this;

They have the best kids program in the county and the second best in the state. (Duck, Dewberry, Anguiano, Lugo) YMCA, PAL, Downrite.

They have placed coaches in their middle school feeder programs.

They travel to national tournaments and get national exposure.

They go to camps.

Great coaching. Great system. Former wrestlers come back to help.

Seek out toughest competition and dodge or back down to nobody.

Tradition of winning!

Great athletes!

Now why wouldn't a parent want their son to wrestle in a program like this?

the watcher said...

Well, why wouldn't a parent want this for his son? If one is looking at it from a very narrow point of view and a parents only goal is for his kid to be a stud wrestler, than yeah go ahead attend South Dade.

How about the academics? school environment? as well as other negative factors that are involved in attending a "D" or "F" school?

If wrestling is the only priority, by all means go ahead and go to SD and enjoy all the benefits that come from being in a good program. Just pray that your child has a good head on his shoulder, be a very involved parent, hope your son is not influenced in a negative way. Hope he is a state champ, hope he can get into college and wrestle, and hope he does not become a delinquent and drug pusher and be known in the future as a kid that was a GREAT WRESTLER but a LOSER in life.

If academics is a priority and being in a good overall positive school environment is more important, than go somewhere else. But don't cry if your kid does not wrestle to his potential, or never has bad coaching, little competitive opportunities, and college coaches does not notice his wrestling. After all, hopefully he will have the academics to succeed in college.

At the end is a matter of choice for the parents and the kid or kids. But once a decision is made, LIVE WITH IT AND DON"T CRY!

Spiderman said...

Anonymous,

You are barking up the wrong tree, I have always been a proponent of kids going where they want, it's the bouncing around and leaving a program in a lurch once you have competed for them that I have a problem with. If the coach at the school in question is negligent or scantily qualified then those are different circumstances and I would respect such a move. However, in the cases of Montero and Hall, neither fits the bill. Rivera is a fine coach, and Hall won a state title, how much better could his coach have developed him? What really bothers me and what I can't stand and it's one of the reasons I thank my lucky stars that I no longer coach is the witness the lack of professional courtesy and the level of disrespect across boundaries all in the name of Victory. I can accept that is happens, I can even accept that there is little that can be done to prevent it, but that does not mean I have to like it, or refrain from stating my opinion on it.

the watcher said...

Let me add to my above post. It is not that I am a fan or hater of Columbus. I will just state it like it is. But I honestly do not think a kid choosing to wrestle for Columbus is a bad idea.

Columbus is known for having good academics. If I had a kid that was a good wrestler, I would honestly consider Columbus, especially if I can get him in with little out of money expense. Many may complain about their recruiting, a booth being set up at middle school tournaments and so on. But the fact is, they have a hall of fame coach, good parental support(whether people like them or not) the support is there, and good academics.

Now, whether they are on an even playing field with other public schools who do not have a magnet program, or do not recruit is another thing. I AGREE, IT IS NOT A PLAYING FIELD. But, if you want the best for your child, it is not your job to worry about that, just worry about what benefits him in the long run. A high school education at Columbus is not such a bad idea. Especially, if you do not have to pay for it.

the watcher said...

Character, integrity, loyalty, is sadly becoming a lost virtue. Obsession, greed, screw my colleagues, is becoming a growing epidemic.

Columbus is also known for it's cocaine dealing asst. baseball coaches, homosexual pedifiliac head football coach getting head in a parked car, marijuana brownies, and of course coach husk himself. Private school at it's finest.

I agree with "the watcher"....education comes 1st. The problem with transferees is that they would probably not make varsity at Columbus except for Hall. They have a better chance at SD.

There are drugs and questionable people in every school and life. Just got to hope that you taught your kids right.

Isn't it going to be embarassing when SD spanks the lily white asses of them explorers with the same kids that you claim wouldn't even start at Columbus.

I agree. SD will still spank Columbus. Columbus's best chance is this year though.
