The Betrayal of Dewberrious

Act I

It was a dark time in the Land of Dadelous The Buccaneer team from the South was nearing the end run in a decade of dominance.

A new power was brewing in the central part of the Floridanus led by the villainous JD Robbinous the enlister. The Enlister brought with him a honed expertise from the distant land of Calif to usurp the crown that had for so long rested in the hands of the warriors from Dadelous.

Hence Robbinous secured the services of the finest mercenaries in the central land to thwart the South and usurp the crown.

Meanwhile, the great General Dewberrious recognized the coming of the storm, and knew that to restore order and the crown to its rightful place; he would have to begin training young warriors throughout Dadelous if the South was ever to regain the power.

General Dewberrious had a keen vision for talented warriors, and filled his stables with what he knew would be the future heroes that would regain the crown.

The General faithfully cultured and tended the development of these warriors, and this is where our story will focus for in fact 5 years hence in large part due to the very warriors that Dewberrious had prepared, the crown once again rested in the Southern lands.

But despite that victory and the regaining of the crown I must digress if you are to understand the true betrayal of Dewberrious.

Dewberrious as we have learned played a large part in training the southern warriors, among them his own adopted son Hallsious. But there were many others, their names are known throughout the land but not as pertinent to the betrayal of Dewberrious as the one. For that story we must return to the past.

Dewberrious was in the process of developing his warriors when he was approached by the nefarious Duke Nophonious, who had brought his son to the general for training. Nophonious entrusted the development and skills of his young progeny to Dewberrious with familial adoration, but it was merely a front to hide his true toxic and self interested passion.

For more than 6 full rotations, Dewberrious had done his best to prepare the young Nophonious for battle, he had led the Dukes son to fruitful campaigns in the junior divisions but now it was finally time for his ascension. In the Two Thousand and sixth rotation since the passing of the prophet, the adolescent Nophonious was promoted to senior warrior and readied for battle.

Too soon may have been his ascension, for many times he was defeated in battle. The impious Duke could not accept the lack of fortitude that his brood was displaying, and proceeded to disseminate a multitude of pretexts for the failures of his descendant.

“Too small are you my son, but you will grown and along with that so will your powers” he said.

"When larger a warrior you are, then will you vanquish the opposition, and you will be unchallenged in the land.”

But the nefarious Duke failed to recognize the presence and threat of a greater warrior than his own on the horizon.

ACT II

A year had passed since Duke Nophonious’s son had ascended to the senior ranks and began to battle with the top class of warrior. He had struggled to keep pace despite the faithful teaching of Dewberrious. But now a new season of battle was fast approaching, and the prodigal son had grown in stature and in girth.

“You are bigger now my son, surely you will dominate your class” said the Duke to his son. “No one will stand in your way.”

But the Duke had forgotten that Dewberrious had an adopted son of his own that was to ascend to the rank of senior himself this season. Yet Dewberrious’s son would surely suffer the same fate as had the son of Nophonious, for he was but a miniature warrior weighing it at under 100 stones.

Nophonious’s son However was now coming down to the 103 stone class from 110 stones or more, an unmistakable advantage, or so thought the Duke. The Season began and the Generals son Hallsious did not seem to be affected by his lack of stature, readily and frequently defeating opponent after opponent of larger mass.

The Duke took notice and thought it but a fluke. Still, he decided to err on the side of caution by foregoing what was to be the first encounter between his son and the son of Dewberrious in the Homesteadian games. The Duke proclaimed that his son had developed a mysterious illness that prevented his participation in the games, and held him out of competition.

The season was now in full swing, and Hallsious remained undefeated, the first true test of his valor however was fast approaching, as the Gmacus tournament was but weeks away.

The day came when the leaders of the various factions held a meeting to decided the rank of their warrior so they might be seeded for the Gmacus. Although undefeated in battle, Hallsious was new to the senior clashes, and was seated but 3rd in his class, behind the Dukes son and Mauricious the Pirate.

His Commander and the General were unperturbed however, for they were confident hat Hallsious could prevail.

The Gmacus tournament had arrived, and Hallsious was greeted with an unfavorable position in the battle Draw; he would have to face a seasoned opponent early in the contest named Armanious Harrisious. Harrisious was a warrior of impressive dimensions, likely the largest warrior in the 103 stone class.

Early in the battle Hallsious looked out matched, but his heart was large and his stamina great, he fell behind early in the contest but in the end used his superior stamina to outlast Harrisious and move on in the championship round.

The day had finally come, the battle between Hallsious and Nophonious was set,and it would take place when the orb of fire reached it’s zenith. There was excitement in the air, and the spectators wagered on the outcome. It was clear that Hallsious would be the underdog, and that made him a crowd favorite.

The General that had trained Nophonious now sat opposite him in his own sons corner of the pitch, from which he would command his warrior in battle. There were murmurs of displeasure from those present because they perceived an unfair advantage in Dewberrious presence in his son’s corner.

The battle began and Hallsious came out with a ferocious assault on Nophonious. It was all Nophonious could do to keep the little warrior at bay. Nophonious employed a tactic of defense and continued to back himself up to the out of bounds line so as to limit the potential success of his opponent’s ferocity.

It was not long before the contest official (Eddious Medinious) summarily warned Nophonious to reciprocate the attack or risk being penalized. Nophonious scored a glancing blow, but Hallsious scored with a counter offensive of his own.

Hallsious attacked relentlessly, and as the match wore on he managed to score a contest winning maneuver on his opponent in the final minutes of the battle.

The Duke angered by his son’s loss and unwilling to concede that the little warrior was superior screamed foul. His contention was that his son had been victimized by the contest official due to the presence of the famous general residing in Hallsious’s corner.

The Duke began a campaign of subterfuge and malevolence against General Dewberrious; severing a seemingly affable relationship, and exposing the Dukes true colors. The Duke brought his complaint before Queen Goldenious, who loved the General but was forced to decree that in future contest the general not be allowed to reside in his own sons corner.

The General was devastated by the Dukes betrayal, he questioned the many years he had spent training the Dukes son only to be treated like rubbish because he was no longer of use to the duke. But Dewberrious regained his focus and realized that what was important now was to prepare Hallsious for the final battle.

The battle for all fast approached, and 14 new champions would be crowned Kings of Floridanus, but not before two rounds of qualifiers. The warrior Hallsious was ready, and the District battle loomed.

To be continued…
Act III

The Battle drew neigh, and a rematch between Hallsious and Nophonious was imminent. There were whispers and rumblings that the General had taken personal affront to the way he had been treated by many of those whom he had faithfully trained. But none of that would forestall the rematch of these two combatants.

The morning of the first qualifier came, and the warriors weighed themselves as was customary. There was one big difference in the division, and that was that this time it was Hallsious that had received the higher seed due to recent victories against his top two rivals.

Hallsious would have to face the winner of Nophonious VS Mauricious. Most believed that that Mauricious would take care of business and the rematch between Nophonious and Hallsious would not happen, but Nophonious stepped up and won the match, setting the stage for what was shaping up to be a grudge match.

This time the arbiter would be the more experienced Pardonious, highly regarded as one of the top official in Dadelous. But before the match even commenced, the Duke began his rumblings of displeasure with the official. It was unclear whom he would have selected had he the choice, for the other two officials present were just as inadequate for his taste, one being Johnsonious the great (cousin to Hallsious), and the other was Medinious whom he had rejected from previous encounter.

This time Nophonious opened the contest with an early score, but then once again retreated to the safety of passively delaying his opponent’s counters without himself attempting to improve his position.

The arbiter feverishly gestured as if imploring Nophonious to come to the side and attempt to further subdue his opponent, but Nophonious was content to latch on to Hallsious’s legs and secure him in place obstructing his opponents ability to improve his own position.

Pardonious warned Nophonious but when he was ignored he was left with no recourse but to penalize the actions of the antagonist. Seemingly flustered, and unconfident in his ability to finish off Hallsious, Nophonious began to make technical errors and miscues in his starting position.

A flurry at the end of regulation tied the contest for Hallsious, and when the extra period was over, Hallsious had found himself victorious over Nophonious once again.

The Duke spilled out of the seats spewing hatred and venom towards the arbiter and the General, proclaiming to anyone that would listen that his son had been unjustly victimized by the nepotistic official.

He saved no lack of ill intent in his testimony, proclaiming to all that would listen that his offspring would not and could not ever receive a fairly officiated contest in Dadelous because of the admiration and respect that the local arbiters held for Dewberrious.

The regional event approached, and this time it was Nophonious that would have the harder road to the finals. This time he fell to Mauricious, and in subsequent fashion also fell to Harrisious.

Hallsious once again did his part and proceeded once again to thwart the larger seemingly superior Mauricious in the final contest of the qualifier. Nophonious’s loss to Harrisious demoted his position to 4th and final qualifier for the final battle.

Coming out in fourth position almost assured that another rematch between Hallsious and Nophonious was at hand because they would both appear on the same side of the grouping.

Nophonious did his part and advanced past his first two opponents, as did Hallsious. The stage was set, and the third and final contest would decide who the superior combatant was. This time the event would be held in a neutral arena, and with a neutral arbiter. What possible protestation could the Duke come up with next; he must have been assuredly pleased with the circumstances.

The contest drew near, the night air thick with anticipation and excitement once again. But the result would be no different. Hallsious went out with mace’s blazing, and immediately backed Nophonious to the line causing the official to promptly warn him to reciprocate the attack or risk being penalized.

The contest was not close, Hallsious dominated Nophonious from the onset, and the Duke could be seen in his seat in the coliseum squirming and writhing with the agony of seeing a neutral arbiter further castigate his progeny like neither of the previous arbiters had done.

Surely now he must realize that the illusion he had painted for himself that his son was unjustly and unfairly treated was but a mirage of his conscious self struggling to admit that the Generals son was nothing less than superior.

The Duke approached the General to offer congratulations on Hallsious having bested his own son. Then in cowardly fashion reached out for the hand of Hallsious himself and with Venom in his mouth proclaimed “let it be know that you have defeated my son for only the first time, for I still contend that the other two victories were ill gotten.”

It was by the grace to the gods and the Generals strength of will that the General himself did not grab the Duke and pummel him right then and there for his cowardly actions.

Later the next evening Hallsious would again face Mauricious the Pirate, Nophonious who had never so much as spoken a word to Mauricious went out of his way to speak with him now and advise him as to what strategic maneuvers might be employed against Hallsious, and he offered Mauricious good wishes and encouragement.

During the contest, Duke Nophonious could be heard spewing hatred upon Hallsious, imploring the arbiters to penalize Hallsious for this action or that, and vehemently demanding scoring points that never came for Mauricious exposing Hallsious’s flank to the pitch.

There would be delight in the horde that gathered to witness the spectacle. Many now watched Nophonious making a fool of him self as he openly rooted against Hallsious.

With merely seconds remaining in the contest, Hallsious was behind and his championship seemingly lost. But in the true warrior fashion, the never say die spirit in him emerged and he dug deep to find the courage to sling the Pirate onto his flank, secure control and in dramatic fashion become King Earlious Hallsious of the 103 stone class, and simultaneously leaving the Nefarious Duke Nophonious slumped, breathless, and red faced to languish in the truth of his betrayal and his duplicity over a former friend whom he has used for his own purpose but had now betrayed from envy.

The End!

It is kind of hard to believe the Duke could have those bitter feelings and words towards someone like Dew/Hall. Both Dew and Hall are classy people.

I hope the Duke, the General, and their combatants can find a common ground and put this behind them. At least that is what we try to teach our own wrestlers.

Paladin,

I was a little shocked myself weeks ago when all this began to formulate and did not write something on it then because I felt there was more to come, and boy was I right on that one.

I have been following this story for several weeks now and I have received confirmation on the events from at least three separate sources on numerous occasions.

I have even been present to witness some of it myself, Like at G.M.A.C. and at the District 16 Championships.

I was also in Lakeland, and although not close enough to hear the actual conversations, I trust my sources are giving me an accurate portrayal.

I did witness some very telling body language not to mention more incriminating actions.

In any case, the events that I portrayed in the story are accurate, and I challenge anyone to refute that things did not occurred as the story describes.

Sorry Spidey, I think I may have been misunderstood.

I believe your report, what I find difficult to swallow is the way the situation has played out. It is unfortunate.

As coaches we are role models, we must therefore keep our personal feelings to our selves or risk not only damaging our own image, but the perception of our athletes.

In the end, isn't our goal to create better, more prepared young men for the world they are entering? In my opinion, coaches have many champions - many of which never won a title or even won a tournament.

Spiderman said...

Paladin,

I was not reffering specifically to you being dubious, it was more of a general statement to those that are wondering if in fact these events transpired.

Your words are wise, and your coaching style and the fine teams and individuals that you have trained over the years are most certainly a reflection of that ethic. I wish you continued success.

"Common ground?" who are you kidding? this is wrestling. I say they battle out there differances on a mat.

Wrestling is about championships and winning. anything else is for losers. Hall did what he had to do and finished. nofo lost for the 3rd time. THE END!

My only concern is for Matt Noffo. In spite of all that has transpired, he's still just a kid. And, in my opinion, Matt's a good kid. I pray that the actions of adults do not take away from the efforts of this young man. There is enough pressure placed on this kid on the mat during competition without all of the other soap opera B.S that adults close to him have created this season.

Anonymous,

I agree with you in regards to the child. And if you think about it, he has shown good sportsmanship especially considering the example he is getting. It is always a shame when the parents make the sport ugly.

Spiderman said...

Other anonymous,

Not to disagree with you or anything, but where the hell did that Colombus comment come from?

WHEW!

LOL!!!

I thought it would be funny just to throw it out there. %uck Columbus

Anonymous said...

Spiderman, many coaches did a great job with their teams this year. You do not always need to win a state title or have a state champ to be recognized.

Anonymous said...

I agree. All those coaches on that list either recruit, inherited, or have young kid's programs. Now that is great for them, but putting up a poll that does not contain all of the coaches names is kind of a slap on the face to the rest. Put up all the names and let everyone vote.

Spiderman said...

Anonymous,

I imagine that comment came across due to my new poll question.

In fact I agree with you, that is why my vote was for Osorio. A team that has never done anything, who were lucky to get their coach a trip to Lakeland once in a while who suddenly is the second best team in the toughest region in Florida tells me Osorio did the best job out there.

Anonymous said...

Yes Osorio did a great job, but he did have a couple of tranfers that scored enough points to put him in second so I would not give him to much credit. He also had some seniors that several coaches in this county could've tweaked as well. I say you list all the names and let everyone vote for who they think did the best coaching job.

Spiderman said...

Anonymous,

No offense, but we already did that poll. If you look in the archives section you will find a synopsis of the results of that poll.

This poll is about coach of the year not of a career or anything else. It is about which coach did the best job with what he had this season.

Anonymous said...

You had about 10 coaches on that previos list. Also, I never said career, I think you should put all the names and let people vote for who did the best with what they had this year.

Spiderman said...

Anonymous,

All caoches are great because they do a lot for a little, but only about 10 are worthy of being considered the top coaches in Dade County.

Like I said before, that poll has been done, this poll is about this season.

Anonymous said...

Spidey can you add more coaches to that poll you made?

Spiderman said...

Anonymous,

I could delete it and start it over but I think that is a sufficient list. However, if you could convince me that I left someone out I might reconsider.

Anonymous said...

Coaches that should be on the list so that the public may choose who they think did the best coaching job this year.

South
Palmetto
Homestead

Central
Southwest
Sunset
Miami High

North
HML
NMB
Gol
Krop

None of the coaches from these schools had much to work with, other than Palmetto and Homestead whom both had feeders.

Anonymous,

I have been away on business for a while so I haven’t had time to check up on the family blog. Once again I find you spewing hatred towards Osorio and American so I guess nothings changed. I’m not sure what your problem with him is but allow me to give some of my personal insights on your list:

South

Palmetto - Sotherholm did what was expected and nothing more. He usually comes in strong with multiple state qualifiers every other year. The most you can say is that he will have some surprises next year. Palmetto only qualifying 2 kids is not a great year coaching or otherwise especially when one of them was a returning qualifier.

Homestead - Please tell me you are kidding with this one. This is a team loaded with South Dade rejects that could not break the varsity at the Buc’s compound. The only reason you are even bringing them to the table is because of Hall. Let me tell you something Anonymous, Hall could have wrestled for Coral Gables and still won the state title. You really should look at his ‘real’ coach. You know the man, that mean cuss who coldly stares at you with a wry smile. Just in case you think anyone and I do mean anyone in Homestead had anything to do with Hall then allow me to let you in on the worst kept secret in the county. HALL IS THE SON OF DEWBERRY. You know, the man who runs the kids program (YMCA) for South Dade along with Duck. He is the man that Hall goes home to and trains with stupid. You will never hear Dewberry say a thing about it because that man has way too much class but you have to be an idiot to not know that.

Central

Southwest - Mendez is to be commended for putting up with a horrible season of injuries and insults. But to say that he should be considered among the best coaches for THIS year, come on buddy. He got his heavy to qualify by the skin of his teeth and the only other qualifier was his state runner up who should be expected to qualify even if he was on one leg. Once again you are digging deep for excuses.

Sunset - The best coach out there pound for pound (sorry couldn’t help it). I think even he will tell you that 2 qualifiers and one who was already expected to win the title is little to nothing to brag about. He will come back next year with a much better and mature team. As for this year, well let’s just say that he did alright but shouldn’t be on the list.

Miami High - Once again you must be kidding. They have people coming on here toasting their district title and what a wonderful year they had and yet only get one kid to the big dance. How impressive was that? Do you really think with all those kids that they had, (minus the painful loss of Guzman who may not of had qualified at 112 anyway), that qualifying one was a big whoopie. I think you are mistaking the poll. It is about what coach did the best with the team given to him and not what coaches have worked hard and deserve some recognition. There is no way Miami High should be on this poll.

North

HML - If I know Mike Turner then I know he would spit in your face and curse you to high hell for even mentioning his team or himself as a coach of the year nominee. You kidding me? Really honestly tell me you are kidding. Turner always does a great job but this year his kids let him down in a major way. This is what he would call a very piss poor performance by his team. As you know a man’s team is a reflection of oneself so you can imagine how happy he is reading this crap knowing it was you with your superman underoos sitting by your computer with your milk and cookies who brought out his name. I can see him now motioning as if he was getting a seizure and cursing the stars themselves wishing he could get one shot at you.

NMB - You mean to tell me that with all the studs this team and coach has and yet nobody, that’s right I said NOBODY, qualified for the state tournament. You really want to consider him for coach of the year? Get a grip Supes. He is right now breaking his laptop over his staff wanting to know what reject wants to nominate him for coach of the year. You must know that all these coaches are very proud and know when they have come up short. You insult them and us by trying to bring them into this poll.

Gol - AHH, finally a good choice. He did qualify 3 kids to the big dance, although one was a recruit from Hialeah. You can’t argue with the toughness that those kids showed down the stretch. A state Champion in Ray Parrado (congratulations by the way) and a very tough kid who never made it to weigh ins on the last day. Story goes that the coaches did not wake up the kid in time. That could be a lie but one never knows. 3 state qualifiers definitely should make him a name on this poll.

Krop - Another good choice. He did qualify 3 no matter what people think of him personally. Remember that they also have a middle school and he has had those very same kids for a couple of years now. I didn’t see much improvement from last year but the facts are the facts, he did qualify three of his kids to the state tournament and that is the standard that we all live by right?

Anonymous, we all know you hate Osorio and maybe you have good reasons but he does deserve to be on this poll. I would cast my vote for Balmaceda because of his numerous accomplishments but I, like the Spider, have a hankering to vote for Osorio as well. Good thing these votes are kept a secret. You can cast your vote and place your comments but please give them some thought before you allow the manure that reeks within you to come out and embarrass you further.

Anonymous said...

moon knight you must not know how to read. no one said any of these coaches should be coach of the year. it was said that they should be on the poll so that the people will not be restricted on who they can vote for. you critic goleman for having a hialeah transfer, but if garcia would not had transferd or harris had not transferd american would have taken 4th or 5th at regionals. last thing you come on here calling people names, but you do ot have the balls to sign your little name so that later on your little butt can be whooped.

Moon Knight said...

Anonymous,

I have not defended Osorio or his transfers nor have I defended or attacked Goleman or Columbus for their recruits. I say if you can get away with it then by all means. What I did try to convey is that there are other teams out there that go below the radar when it comes to those things.

I don't sign my name because then what would the fun be? Have you signed your name to any of your post? You don't see me asking you to put your name on your post so your 'butt can be whooped'. Anonimity is a gift and must be used with care. Given that I still say that the poll is asking about what coaches did the best this year with their recruited teams or not. You want to include all coaches so it can come down to a popularity contest instead of giving recognition to those coaches who had a remarkable year. You must be a democrat.

Anonymous said...

i only wrote the comment listing the schools. i do not insult anyone. if you list all coaches the most popular one would not win. it will be balmaceda because he has done the best job. you are just upset because your team probably got demolished by nmb or hml.

Anonymous said...

I had the best season. If those SD kids had not been wrestling since they were 5, we would've won the region. I'll piss on this poll and everyone because I will win coach of the year.

Ron Osorio

Anonymous said...

come on the entire columbus team has been recruited.

Moon Knight said...

Anonymous,

Far be it for me to argue about who may very well be the coach of the year but I have taken the liberty to put a brief summary of each coach and the why Spiderman choose to place them in the poll. If you have anything to add to any of the coaches whom are in the poll or if there was something I forgo to mention please feel free to mention it.

Coach of the Year Nominee’s

Victor Balmaceda (SD):What can you say about this team this year. I’m sure this team will go down as one of the greatest teams in the history of Dade County. The defeated Palmetto Ridge, Brandon, and a host of other top two teams in the state on their way to regaining their status as the most dominant force in 3A wrestling. They have a multitude of studs that go by single names only. Tico, Rat, Freak, T-rex, and King Kong, just to name a few. G.M.A.C., Regional, and now finally State Champions of 3A wrestling makes this an incredible year for the Buc’s and Balmaceda. Always the front runner of the game every year but this year is and was an exceptional year.

Ron Osorio(AME): Say what you want about the guy he can coach. When was the last time you heard American and contenders in the same sentence? What happened to Hialeah at his departure? Did he get some gifts from Hialeah and Krop, maybe but if he did his AD, whom I have known for some time, would have made sure they were legit in every way possible. Now American takes second at the regional tournament? Take away his two transfers and he still qualifies 5 to the big dance. That has to count for something. If not for the accomplishments of Balmaceda, Osorio would be the coach of the year hands down.

Sal Tejada (BRA): Never mind the major screw job in the finals and the many injuries that his team had thought the year, this coach did a remarkable job in keeping his kids focused and ready to make a final charge at the region tournament. Unless my recollection is not what it used to be, Braddock was in second at the region tournament for some time. His kids wrestled with their hearts and passion but just couldn’t keep up with the other teams in the end. From being destroyed in duals by most of the top teams in the county to fighting for second place at the region tournament shows what this coach and program can do year in and year out. Yet another victim of the Michael Jordan curse (nobody wins sh!t as long as Balmaceda is around LOL).

Jim Husk (COL): There is something that has gone unsaid for a while and should be remembered. Husk was very unceremoniously dismissed from his post as head wrestling coach of the Southridge Spartans a couple of years ago. Since then he may have recruited ‘some’ talent and maybe inherited some new talent but the man can coach. An entourage of helpers and assistants doesn’t hurt either. His team won several tournaments this year and if it wasn’t for the constant trash talking by some Columbus fans out there, Columbus would have been given much more recognition for what they have been able to do in so short a time. They were in second all the way into the last couple of final matches of the region tournament. There kids wrestled tough and seemingly peeked at the right time. Next year will be a very interesting year for Dade County since all top five teams are only graduating just a couple of kids.

Kevin Johnson (SR): This man has had to struggle with the ghost of Husk for many years and this year seemed like the year of his phoenix like rise to the top. His team did make South Dade break a sweat in their dual and they did beat American in their dual as well. The placed high in numerous tournaments and finally they were able to place 2nd at the G.M.A.C. That itself is an extraordinary accomplishment. They are really good at keeping their internal affairs private and therefore not too many people know what exactly happened at the end of the season or why so many of their brood failed to make it to districts or regionals. That being said, Coach Johnson did a great job of keeping what few kids he had focused and took 5 to the state tournament. His placement of Morales at 130 was ballsy and courageous and paid off at regions but not at the State meet. Yet another coach who merits coach of the year consideration for his tireless work trying to get out of the shadow of Husk.

anonymous,

More of those teams have feeder schools that you realize.

Palmetto has Palmetto Middle and Southwood has always helped Palmetto.
Homestead has Campbell Drive.
Southwest has Riviera going again, plus the twins came off of the Glades County Champ team from several years ago.
Sunset has a couple of kids off of the Hammocks squad.
Goleman is fed by Jose Marti, they never have much, but they are always at the County Tournament.
Krop is fed by Highland Oaks.
HML is fed by the siblings of wrestlers past.

I know that Vic has won Coach of the Year a couple of times so people are looking for someone else to give it to. Like the year my old teammate Oscar Martinez won it when he coached at Archbishop Carrol, because he took Ozzie and Carlos Frigger to State and they both won. The Herald voted that the coach of the year material over Vic who took 7 wrestlers to State, placed all 7 and took 2nd place to Oviedo. I love Oscar, but that 2006 season is the only time that every wrestler that went to state for South Dade walked home with an individual medal, that is impressive.

Looking at the season and what South Dade accomplished, it is clear that Vic should be Coach of the Year. Beat defending 1A State Champion Palmetto Ridge in a dual. Beat defending 3A State Champion Oviedo at the Jarzynka in their own gym. Beat this year's 1A State Champion Riverdale at the Jarzynka. Won GMACs for the 4th straight year with 9 in the Finals. Won Regions for the 4th straight year with 10 in the Finals (9 staight weight classes 103 - 152). Won their 8th State Title. And lets not forget they Beat the Streak, by defeating Defending and Current 2A State Champion Brandon in their own gym.

Plus they beat 3A State Runner Up Osceola in a dual meet.

I know that Osorio is getting abused for the "transfers". But he also did a great coaching job, by getting some of those American kids to finally preform at their best at the end. Everyone knew Tommy Perez was good, but he wouldn't have been a State Runner Up without Osorio. Most coaches knew Nicholas Clarke could be dangerous, but he wouldn't have placed at State with out Osorio. Leo Santibanez was good, but he wouldn't have been a state qualifier with out Osorio. Some coaches had seen Christian Perez wrestling before this year and he had some talent, but he would not have been 1 match from State and in the Region Semis with out Osorio.

I could see the reasons to vote for Osorio, if South Dade did not have such a dominating year.

One of the best coaching jobs Vic does is to get those kids to show up at every big event and preform the way that they do. I know they are athletes, but those athletes come with some big issues that you don't see unless you are with them day in and day out. Coaching them on the wrestling moves is easy, it is the coaching the rest of the time where Vic earns his titles.

Coach KW,

Thank you for your insight. I agree with you on the Balmaceda story line but you must admit that it still falls under the Michael Jordan curse LOL. He is the best and will continue to garner recognition and awards so long as he stays in the biz. I cast my vote for Osorio not because of what he did at his new school but for how fast he was able to do it in. I hope they will be able to set up a dual next season so we can enjoy their match. I can't wait to see how these teams will improve over the summer with most of the top kids coming back for each school.

KW,

Great Job with that Breakdown, we appreciate your candor.

Spidey,

You have either no life or way too much time on your hand to write your perception on hear say about Noffo, Dewberry and their Families. Get married have some kids and then your word will have more meaning….oh and that applies to KW as well.

Spidey you have a future in day time soaps with the crap you write.

Anonymous (Mr. Noffo?),

Well as a mater of fact I do have a life but I’ll spare you the details.

Anyway, I did not write my “perception of hearsay” I wrote an account based on actual testimony provided to me by several sources telling exactly the same story which I happen to have complete confidence in.

It’s funny that you bother to write telling me what not to write but don’t bother to set the record straight if in fact the story did not unfold exactly as I stated.

Do you care to state that there exists no friction between the Noffo’s and the Dewberry’s, and if so, how have come about said knowledge?

I will have you know that my reputation for telling the truth is impeccable; when I make statements as fact it’s because that is what they are and anyone would be hard pressed to show an instance where I spoke an untruth.

I appreciate the advice, I will consider marriage, but I think I will opt for one that I can control rather than for one who controls me. As for Children, I will be assured to let them succeed or fail based on their own merits and not my misperception of their abilities.

Anyone who has followed me knows that my words have the utmost meaning, so now here is some advice for you; stop making pretext for your wrestler’s shortcomings.

He was no smaller last season than was Earl Hall this season and Hall still won a state title, but you made your wrestler believe that his size was his problem and he was never able to overcome that pretext.

This season you made him believe he was being treated unfairly by the officials and professed things would be different with a neutral official, and in fact they were, as he sustained the worst of the three beatings with said neutral official, and he never overcame that pretext either.

It’s hard to wish an ill on any wrestler and I sincerely don’t, but if anything less than a state title is forthcoming at Columbus for your wrestler, I can’t wait to see what the next pretext will be.

If you ask me the kid has had a fantastic career thus far anyway, especially if you consider his pedigree, it’s not like he comes from a champion bloodline or anything.

Anonymous said...

OUCH!!!

It looks like some hard facts to me. I will add to that as well.

Even though I agree that little Noffo is a good wrestler with lots of talent, it may sting his dad more that he lost to Hall for the following reasons.

1) Over the years he ALWAYS made it a point to state something like "his opponent is 1 year older, or 2 years older than Matt".

2) His opponent weighs 5-10 pounds more.

3) The other kid was held back and should be in a higher grade. etc. etc. etc.

Well this year there was none of the above excuses when Noffo wrestled little Hall.
1) Hall is about a year younger than Noffo.

2) Hall weighed at least 7 pounds lighter probably closer to 10 pounds lighter than Noffo every time they wrestled.

3) Hall has never been held back in school.

Well, I guess the officiating is an excuse that had to be made even though as Spidey stated at states with a neutral official the score was actually worse.

Nothing against little Noffo, because he is a great competitor, but it is classless to constantly be making excuses and diminishing his opponents success as his dad has done in the past, and apparently the present.

Watcher,

I thought this topic was dead, I had not even checked it recently. Then one of my sources told me what was said and I could not let it slide by without a rebuttal, so I resurrected the topic. Should have left well enough alone, it's the best policy to let a sleeping dog lay undisturbed.

In any case, you are correct, I think little Noffo is a worthy competitor who gives his maximum effort and instead of being rewarded for it instead has his effort tarnished by excuses. Unfortunately it is sometimes the case that the children pay for the sins of their parents, and this is evidence. I truly wish him the best, and I foresee a time when the kid will likely tell the dad to shut his yap. He would be doing himself a great favor.

Anonymous said...

Spidey,

I know firsthand. I know the Noffo's and Dewberry personally. Yes there is friction that shouldn't be. Water under the bridge.

Some of your facts are wrong and some correct. I know who you are and I know you have no children so you cannot put yourself in the parent's shoes.

Hall is a great wrestler and so is Noffo. This year Hall worked harder. Noffo had poor wrestling partners. It is what it is.

So we will see how he does next season.

Spiderman said...

Anonynmous,

I have a few points to agree with you on and a few to not.

Yes there is friction. Ding! Ding! Ding! Correct!
Shouldn’t be Friction? Errrrrnnnn! Wrong! Rightfully there should be friction, they way the dad acted throughout is inappropriate.

Some of my facts are wrong? Errrrrnnnnn! Wrong again! All of my facts are correct, if you say they are not the refute them and tell me specifically which ones, I guarantee you it won’t happen.
I know who you are and I know you have no children so you cannot put yourself in the parent's shoes. Errrrrnnnnn! Wrong! and Wrong! You don’t know who I am and I do have children and I never allowed myself to make excuses for their shortcomings to justify a setback they may have had.

Hall is a great wrestler and so is Noffo. Ding! Ding! Ding! Correct! Enough Said

This year Hall worked harder. Ding! Ding! Ding! Yes but because his father saw to it, Halls training partners were no better than Noffo’s.
Noffo had poor wrestling partners. This is neither right nor wrong, just pretext to serve as justification.

So we will see how he does next season. Ding! Ding! Ding! Correct!

Anonymous said...

Spidey,

You’re going to tell me that Noffo had the same wrestling this year as Hall. Errrnnn! Wrong!

Noffo, would wrestle CR’s 130 that’s the closet competition he had. There is no justification needed.

As for your story “Dewberrious” I didn’t see you at the south districts…..so watch that match and tell me there was not questionable refereeing. There’s more but I do not have time to entertain your obsession.

There’s 2 for you.

Spiderman said...

Anonymous,

If you believe I'm whelan, I was there so I saw what everyone else saw and because I have impecable judgment I know you are full of $hit.

If you believe I'm Pardo I reffed the match and I'm likely the 2nd or 3rd best ref in Dade so I know you are full of $hit.

If you believe I'm Mahler I saw it with my own eyes and saw what everyone else saw that is not related to or has a personal interest in the kid. So I too know you are full of $hit

If you believe I'm someone else then you can't know if I was there or not so you are full of shit...

Just for your information, I was there, ask me something that only someone that was there would know and I will answere it.

How bout the Noffo Coral Reef meeting near the east exit door down to the boys locker room. Where all they did was bitch about the injustice done to the kid and making every excuse imaginable for the kid.

What about Noffo(dad) hanging around after it was all over to complain to all that would listen that his son could not get a fair matched called in Miami.

I know I already made this point, but what happend again with the neutral ref? Yes he hit Noffo for 4 stalling points, while the three miami ref's combined only hit him for three.

I am not obsessed with this, it just so happens that I am the voice of reason behind it. I am the voice of those who are not able to defend their honor because their it could jeopardize their future. And I am the veracity that you can not hide regardless of your efforts.

Neither situation you mentioned is a fact, they are both your misinformed or ill formulated opinions.

Here is in fact the final nail in your coffin. Matt Noffo goes around 112 and cuts to 103. His closest competition 130 according to you makes him 18 pounds heavier. Earl Hall goes around 95 and his closest competition is at 112, for a 17 pound difference. So what's your point.

You sound more and more like Matty's daddy! Making yet another excuse for his poor performances. The fact is there are plenty of wrestlers who don't have great workout situations who manage to overcome that and succeed. You on the other hand, want to use this as an excuse to justify the recruitment of your son to Columbus along with all the other little mercenaries! If they're such great coaches over there, then let's see how they do developing their own talent from scratch, not pick-pocketing the best kids from program all over the county! What's that prove? Yes, yes, I know their a private school, blah, blah, blah so what? That mean's they are incapable of developing their own talent from their feeder programs/club? If you can't beat them, buy them - is that it?

Anonymous said...

Yes just like Columbus plucked Rio, Guelsian and Nodar etc…

Spiderman said...

Anonymous,

I say it definitely sounds like Matty’s daddy. The abundance of pretext for this, that, and the other is exorbitant enough to logically deduce it’s him.

You can say Little Noffo weighed 108 if you want, but one of my good sources heard him say “I’m never cutting weight again.” Doesn’t sound to me like the words of someone cutting just 3 to 5 pounds, but it does sound like another excuse. What do you think?

Spiderman said...

Other Anonymous,

You think I'm Johnson?

There is an original guess, the first since Osorio, I wish you could have said so earlier so I could have put him on the poll.

A good candidate for certain; highly intelligent, formally educated at an exclusive institute of learning, well written, and brash enough to say what he wants while smart enough to find a medium that would not get him in trouble.

I think Johnson could pull off this Spiderman thing for sure, but alas I am not Johnson. Of course, if I were Johnson I would say "I think Johnson could pull off this Spiderman thing for sure, but alas I am not Johnson."

Anonymous said...

I actually don't believe he was cutting alot of weight this year. Out of the other 3 top 103 pounders from dade this year he was by far cutting the least. Villanueva (SD) and Harris (AM)were cutting much more than Noffo this year.

I can believe he was about 108 in the fall before the season started,as he actually weighed in less than 110 during the tournaments in the fall, but am guessing he was somewhere around 110-112 during the season. In fact, that is what I have heard.

Either way good luck to him in his new school. My question is, what weight will he be going because they have lots of lightweights in that wrestling room.

Spiderman said...

Watcher,

Well stated, I believe you are confirming what I alrady said, he was cutting from 112 but even if it was 110 or 108, it is just another in a long line of excuses.

Anonymous said...

The bitter feelings that are shared between the older Noffo and the wrestling community have now filtered down to young Noffo. I have had the privilege of speaking to the younger of the Noffo’s and found him to be a polite and respectful individual. His demeanor after some of the matches against Hall simply stems from his overwhelming desire to win and succeed at this sport. It is human nature to want to look for some reason to blame for one’s failure and that is all young Noffo has demonstrated after some of the matches. Please consider his age and how that may affect his actions. Some would call them follies of youth.

I point this out because the constant attacks and counter attacks by some people on this board have turned this young kid into a rallying point for Columbus’s recruiting. This kid is doing nothing but trying to better himself in any way that he can. He believes that by going to Columbus he will in fact reach a higher level in his wrestling prowess than what he was able to at Coral Reef.

Although I do believe that his father has much to do with his transfer, I also believe that the betterment of Noffo is truly the ultimate driving force behind these events. The question as to whether Columbus recruits is not what we have come down to debating nor discussing, we have now gone to the extreme of demeaning the accomplishments as well as this kids desire to win and succeed. Which one of us as a parent would not traverse the very oceans of hell to give our young child a chance at accomplishing his dreams?

I am asking that the discussion and arguments of the veracity of the recruiting allegations towards Columbus continue but the mention of the older Noffo cease. I am simply requesting this because nobody will be able to differentiate between Matt Noffo and his father or any arguments about Columbus. Matt Noffo is a great kid who should be allowed to continue his quest without carrying any baggage or garbage around like an albatross around his neck. Thank you for your understanding.

In fact Mr. Johnson does write on the boards, just not very often. There are a few examples of his writing just last week when there was some controversy in the Junior High District Tournament. Your correlations are not logically sound, but you won't be the first to make an erroneous assumption. You may continue to believe I am Johnson if it suits your desire, but I can assure you that I am not. Of course if I were Johnson, I would say "You may continue to believe I am Johnson if it suits your desire, but I can assure you that I am not."

You know, now that I think of it, there are lots of well know even prominent coaches and officials that I am not aware read, much less write on my Blog. Here are just a few names. Jim Husk, Kenny Johnson, David Soderholm, Mike Turner, Frank Pelegri, Saul Tejada, Moises Rivera, Bill McDonnell, Fidel Albelo, Joel Mendez, Curtis Dewberry, and Tirso Valls just to name a few.

So you deduce erroneously based on invalid suppositions, and that is never a good idea.

It is funny how you forgot to mention Osorio. You know he reads this stuff. Then again you are Osorio, Spiderman. You have done a great job of difusing that idea. You have put a lot of energy into finding clever ways of doing so. For those of you that still don't know, belive me, Osorio is Spiderman, do not be fooled the man even has a Spiderman tatoo for crying out loud and he uses this blog to gather all sorts of info from you. Ask him in person if you do not belive me.

Now why haven't you gotten an alias by registering with Google. How are we to know this is really you and not some Superman imposter. I even gave you a page on the main screen, come on now why won't you play?
