I would like to extend my sincere congratulations to South Dade, Coach Victor Balmeceda, and all the South Dade boys that made this happen. That said, I would also like to extend my congratulations to Russ Cozart and the Brandon Eagles, and I hope no one reads this as if I am mocking the Eagles because nothing could be further from the truth. It took big Cojones to start a tournament that they new eventually would end the Streak; to keep the tournament when they obviously exhibited some vulnerability; and finally, to legitimize a Streak that had been much maligned and derided by wrestling insiders. Unless I am mistaken, since the Beat the Streak Tournament was conceived, Brandon had added nearly 100 or more wins to their Streak, which for a team wrestling the best team’s year in and year out is a hell of an accomplishment.
I can only hope that this means that we can now see the best teams in the state drive up to Brandon year in and year out and make this Graves Tournament what it should be, the State Dual Championships. Berrfan on TOS thinks this will be the end of the Graves. He expects Brandon to take the weekend of the Graves to travel out of state. I personally think something as ambitious as "The Florida Duals" would be nice, but extremely difficult to pull off. Start with a Dade County Dual Tournament... baby steps.
As a wrestling fan and a fierce competitor in the same sport I have to extend my continuing admiration and congratulations to Coach Victor Balmaceda for his amazing accomplishment in beating a formidable opponent in Palmetto Ridge. To come off an emotional victory like that and then to win key matches with incredible upsets and last minute takedowns to beat the best team/dynasty/coach in Brandon and their coaching legend Russ Cozart was and will forever be amazing. Congratulations to coach Duck and KW and the whole staff for this incredible victory. Congratulations to the kids on both sides who will always be know and remembered for this historic clash. The South Dade wrestlers led by Tico Baez are an amazing group and deserve to be recognized by the school, county, and state for their accomplishment.

I appreciate the comment, but I am just gratified that florida wrestling finally received a day and an event like none other in it's history, I hope it continues, and I hope to soon see Brandon at the final four. The Streak being over is bad for Brandon only in the immediate, they will be ever more glorious in the future because of the oportunities that will now open up. I was sincere in my congrats to them on having that burden removed.

Match started off at 160. Coach Johnson had his team ready and they won some very close matches. With South Dade up a weight class at most weights, the match ups favored Southridge. Missing Jerry Silva at 135 hurt, plus starting 130 pounder Bell was missing in action. Not sure how much of a difference it would have made with Rat at 130 and Wilson at 135.
Tico and Rat were very hyped up to close out their careers in the comfy confines of the Buccaneer Cove, both of them secured a final pin in their last home dual meet. Both of them had pin times of 33 seconds into the first period.

This should not be of no surprise to anyone. Not everyone who comes on this sight tries to decieve others. If someone tells us something the way Superman did, maybe we should seriously take it into consideration. Why can't Spiderman be Osorio because he says he is not. I'm glad this is out on the open so we can move on and talk about wrestling not all this shit shat talk that goes on all the time. If Osorio pulled this off which I believe he did, good for him for thinking above the rest. You have to give him credit for that, but make sure you get back to coaching because now is when things get even better.

I don't think American will fininsh 4th. Just because Osorio might not take the full team. If he does they might finish higher than 4th. I do have a feeling that this year he takes a full team. Braddock and Southwest will have a tough time finishing above Miami High, I see Miami High possibly breaking into the top 5 this year. Columbus and Southridge have great wrestlers, but for some reason I do not see them doing as well as they should at GMAC. It will be a very fun and interesting weekend, but other than South Dade taking 1st, it is very hard to predict the rest.
Man I'm glad to see some talk about wrestling finally. Can we get a discussion going on GMAC? Lets get some inputs. There have been some pretty bold predictions so far. I believe too that it will be a fun weekend for dade wrestling. Looks like SD might runaway with the title again.

I saw American wrestle Southridge and was marginally impressed. They are a tough group but they looked very young and inexperienced. I don't think Osorio will bring them to GMAC. His track record reflects that. I see Miami High in the top 5 with Southridge taking second behind South Dade. Columbus will battle with who ever is still standing after the beatdown that the Bucs will give them tonight. Watch out for Palmetto, those guys are hiding and plotting a comeback of monumental proportions.
Not only will Columbus beat SD today, but we will also take GMAC. The hell with everyone. Tonight we dine HELLLL!

The match started off bad for Columbus. With the match starting off at 140. Tico, Kendrick each had pins and Luis got a tech. Stephon secured a pin in the final 10 seconds of a match, followed by Shawn soundly defeating Davis. So after 5 matches they were down 26 - 0. They probably thought they could win 2 or 3 of those matches. Abadin got Columbus on the board with a tech, but after starting off strong, Rabaza got pinned by Willie. Wethy got a forfeit and Mark pinned Jacob to get Columbus to 32 - 17. Mauricio got a tech to make it 37 - 17, Columbus had an outside chance to win, but really could have made the match respectable, but they suffered 2 last second defeats, in matches they were probably favored to win. Quint defeated Louie (Louie also lost a team point for Columbus). Josh Williams broke the tie with a whip to his back to defeat Jake Rio. Rat defeated George and finally Wilson teched Otero.
Sitting in the stands with former teammates, it was discussing how that is Columbus's history to choke. I think that is a little to harsh for what happened last night. I just don't think that the schedule that Columbus wrestled this year prepared them for the battles they will face in the next 3 tournaments.
Columbus gave it a good effort, they just didn't wrestle 6 minutes in some crucial matches.

I have to admit that I knew South Dade would kill Columbus. I think only to teams in Dade would give South Dade a minor headache and those two teams are Southridge and American. I know and understand that Columbus is riding high on many wins and accomplishments but I have to also agree with you that their schedule has not prepared them for what's ahead. If American desides to bring their entire team then GMAC will be very interesting. Do you have any news or information about that?
