There were just too many names on the list so I had to leave some off. I tried to pick people that had Longevity, Knowledge, Power, and Presence. While I think KW is a great guy and I’d loved to have a beer with him myself, I don’t believe he makes this list.
Notable names left off the list
Al Pardo Eric Phillips Jim Bird Juan Camarotti Kenny Johnson Mike Turner Moises Rivera Rick Tribit Ron Osorio Saul Tejada Scott Gomrad Scott Soderholm And others
Wow good memory, except I believe that was the region title that was at stake unless we are talking about different circumstances. A week later SD won the big trophy anyway so no use crying over spilt milk.
Hey how is the icy pass between Gatlinburg and Cherokee? Are they closing the gap before 4pm yet? I will be up that way this Holiday season, and I don't want to get caught on the Cherokee side, I might as well take the long way around for that.
Isn't it amazing how much you can smell Lechon Asado, Yuca, and Congri in the mountains of Tennessee in late December?
Do all Cubans go North for the Winter or does it just feel that way?
excuse me I was coached by both David and Scott Soderholm and I am proud to say so. They both have an extensive knowledge and stories in the sport. I don't see any reason why either should be left off the list.
Excuse me anonimous.Ifeel that way because they are both dirtbags that's my opinion and thats the way it is Im sure that you could sit with them and talk about how they snitched on other coaches and a good time was had by all.
Either was not left of the list, just Scott, David Soderholm is on there and rightfully so. The other 19 are better representatives than Scott Soderholm, at least in my opinion, and this is my Blog.
I agree that the Soderholms have a wealth of knowledge, and and I can appreciate you standing up for your coaches.
I have never failed to recognize that David Soderholm is a terrific coach, he has the state title and multiple champions to prove it.
However, when they have committed some errors, I have also not been shy in pointing them out, but I have done this across the board. I will not pull punches when some team mis-steps regardless of my personal like or dislike for them.
While I agree that Almeida should be the list, I think he's a shitbird. His global credentials notwhithstanding, he screwed a North Florida wrestler during the first round of the state tourney in '02 when he officiated said wrestler vs. Greg Joseph of Dr. Krop fame (The year before he won it). Anyway, Joseph was losing by four with 10 seconds left when low and behold, he threw the other guy but not to his back, to his side. Chuck not only awarded the takedown, and righfully so, but called the fastest 5 count/3 point nearfall that this man has ever seen. Joseph wins by 1. A travesty I say and I've seen the tape. So where does Chuck end up retiring? To North Florida of course.
An official’s judgment is typically better than that of the fans. You can only know what a referee goes through if you are a referee yourself, otherwise you may sit in your high perch and judge us. Officiating is like doing complex mathematics in your head with a time delay in which the answer must be come in a split second, all while on your feet moving around trying to protect the wrestlers from each other, the floor, the scorers table, and the chairs. In this situation these are some of the things that could have been going through Mr. Almeidas head in the blink of an eye; does he have control, when is reaction time over, make sure the take down is secured, was there a slam, the possibility of an illegal head lock, is the defenders pinning area in bounds, is his back at a 45 degree angle with the mat even though he is fighting for his life and flopping around, there are many more factors, but you must get my meaning by now, and this all happened in 10 seconds or less. I can easily see a situation where the official would believe that the wrestler was in near fall criteria, but the crowd (watching with selective vision by the way) disagrees. You don’t realize that the back of a wrestler is very flexible between the shoulders, the back can bend and bow quite a bit, and while you are seeing one shoulder up completely off the mat, that does not mean the wrestler in not in near fall criteria. The pinning area is defined (and I will paraphrase here) as the area running along the top of the shoulders from end to end (that is the horizontal area). Vertically, you draw a line down each side of the back all the way down to the bottom of the scapula. Then the back is divided into two sides with a line down the center of the spinal column. I don’t think the Parents, families, fans, or even coaches are able to critically and impartially judge when a wrestler has gone into near fall criteria. It is completely possible, for the wrestlers shoulder to appear to be at a ninety degree angle in relation to the mat, when in fact in the referee’s judgment; the wrestler is in near fall criteria. I will explain to you how this happens. A wrestlers gets thrown in a head and arm (for example) one shoulder is obviously in contact with the mat, the wrestler fights to turn into his opponent and is side ways making his opposite shoulder appear to be above the 45 degree mark that would put him in criteria. However, what the referee sees is that the other part of the wrestlers back in relation to the mid line (the imaginary line that runs down the center of the spine) has crossed into near fall criteria, but because the back is bowed, the shoulder could in fact appear to be well higher than the required 45 degrees. I suggest you watch that film again and evaluate it with the criteria I just described provided of course that you have a proper viewing angle. There is a reason that Chuck Almeida is (or was) a world class official. My money is on him being right in the circumstance, and you watching with selective vision.
Did you know that you can actually come up with a poll, write it down, post it, and vote and vote and vote before you realize, there is something missing. I looked at it and read it and thought about it and it never hit me. One day i was out and about thinking of the poll and it hit me. I then said to myself, Moonie (that is what I go by at home), is the list complete?. Moonie said, No, I don't think it is. but who is missing? I ran the list thru my head and could only come up with the single solitary name that everyone and their mothers would love to have a beer with. The one person that would blow this poll out of the water. That person and his name is none other than your friendly neighborhood SPIDERMAN. Why is your name not on the poll?
Ah, there is the rub. While we may know what you think about certain topics, we don't know your secrets and your inner thoughts on people. We also don't know your philosophy on coaching, kids, other coaches, and winning. Many think of you as the pre-eminent source for information and entertainment but it would be great to dissect your mind and see what rumbles in there caught within the webs of your mind.
No offense, but I was an official for over 10 years before becoming a coach. I did not want to add this but since it is Spidey's site and I feel safe, I WAS THE COACH on the other end. The move happened IN FRONT OF ME. Almeida was OUT OF POSITION. OK, now that I have clarified that, I still have the tape that my assistant next to the mat made for us. I said, Chuck's global credentials notwithstanding, he missed this one and we argued the issue for quite some time afterward. If you don't think that an official missing a call might have an effect on a wrestler at the state tourney, think again. Please don't preach to me about rules, regulations, and judgment calls. I am still in possession of my officiating gear.
OK I believe that you believe he missed the call, and he very well might have, no official is perfect. I also think a bad call can have quite the effect on a wrestler, however, in life nothing is perfect, especially when judgment is a prerequisite. The only thing is I am trying to figure out if as an official you are more sympathetic to the possibility of a ref missing a call, or if you are more critical. It’s absolutely possible that Chuck could have missed a call, that being said, I reserve my judgment on the situation without being able to see the tape, and also without hearing Chuck’s side on the issue, though I doubt by now he would remember it.
One more thing, I feel safe on the Spiderman’s site as well, I think this is an awesome forum.
Mr.Snuka: I defend your right to your opinion, however no one is perfect. I must say that your comment was grammatically perfect and should be an example to all who frequent this blog.May others learn from your example.

Spidey you need to have NEGATIVE voting so I can put in my vote for the Sheriff.Also. you left KW out
I'd love to see Chuck and Jim get with Balmeceda and reminisce about how they F---ed him out of the '01 GMAC.that would be cool

Just though I should mention that Wiber Johnson does not drink beer.
Just as well,I think KW is an Appletini kind of guy. However Soderholm left out of a list is a good thing

Superfly,
Harsh comments for one of the best ever, but you are obviously entitled to your opinion.

Ref,
Great post, likely the most accurate and well portrayed explanation of that situation I've ever heard.
Would you mind if I broke it down a bit and made it a subject on the main page?

Moonie,
AHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!!
You know I never even thought of it.
I do appreciate the sentiment.
However, I might be boring company since for the most part, you already know exactly how I feel about most things.
Spiderman,

Moonie,
I see, so it's not really me you are interested in, but my self.
Is that confusing?
Anyway, I have said it before and will say it again, even Rome fell.
one day I will be discovered, and then you can buy me that beer.
Thanks again for the props.

That's the beauty of a site like this. We can agree to disagree and then knock back a cold one together. If we knew who we were!!!!
