Weekend update

American was impressive, their kids were very businesslike, and they showed both maturity and desire in regards to their performance. It’s evident that whatever Osorio did in his time sine he arrived there has worked. I did see many new faces, and a new team demographic which I think is in large part the reason why many of the recruiting allegations are being thrown around. I don’t have any evidence by which to accuse American further so for now I will just abide by my impressions that Osorio has in very little time built a legitimate contender again, at a school which much as his previous destination has never been known as a wrestling power, it will be interesting to see if they can sustain it. One wrestler that I know belongs at American is Perez, the younger brother of Tommy Perez is just a Freshman but was every bit as impressive as Nates was when he came on the scene if not more. This kid is going to make noise this year, and could be Osorio’s next multi champ.

Miami High was impressive in spots, their 103 is a little stud, forget that he was dominated by Hall, he did not follow the game plan, and next time they meet it could be different. He is muscular, but Hall showed him that proper counter technique will quell strength on many occasions. If properly instructed and if he follows the prescription, he could get the better of Hall in the future. Their middles weights are solid, but not yet at the elite level, though some showed greater promise than anticipated. Miami High continues to improve year in and year out, and could soon join the ranks of the elite.
Homestead did not live up to the billing, and the reasons why raise more intrigue than their lackluster performance. Watson got pinned by Miami High guy on a simple half, but was clearly at that point exhausted. He looked out of shape and it cost him badly. He didn't return to wrestle on Saturday, a wise choice on his part or his coach’s lest he show further kinks in his armor. The Homestead team forfeited 171 and 189 to everyone, likely a by product of their football team still being alive in the State Football playoffs. Earl Hall looked way impressive in that he seems to dominate though many times smaller than his opposition, still, I expected to see a more fluid and resolute Hall, I don’t know if it’s because he is physically overmatched, but at times he appeared one dimensional, and his best scoring came from countering his opposition rather than from being proactive on the attack. I have heard rumblings that Homesteads training regiment may in the long run be their undoing despite their abundance of talent; we shall have to keep and eye out to see, I hope it is just opening of the season rust and not a more ominous sign.
Sunset looked tough though young, they introduced a wrestler I was not expecting to see, one of Nestor Varona’s own which I would have bet was going to land at Columbus, or South Dade, or possibly even Varela, but not Sunset. Coach Rivera had his young men prepared and in shape though a little wide eyed and nervous. The future looks bright at Sunset. Chinchilla looked a little rusty, and went in overconfident against South Miami’s kid and paid the price by being taken to his back. He overcame that obstacle and decided the event with a pin over an inexperienced wrestler.
Varela had some strength in the lightweights and they appear to have some experience and toughness. They have the ability to launch anyone in a throw if they are not careful, and they are a tenacious bunch.
Killian was unimpressive, except for the drubbing of South Miami they did not win many matches. I fear there coach for all he tries has limited experience and seems to be one of the many coaches in Dade County which will take the position of head wrestling coach as a favor to the school and because and extra supplement means a little extra cash in your pocket. At least Killian had nice numbers, fielding an entire compliment of wrestlers which is more than can be said of other teams.
South Miami looked Pathetic, good thing I read Pardo’s reply before posting this because I was roasting them as clearly the worst team, not just at the Dodd duals, but in Miami. After reading his comments I decided to be less harsh because he said that 9 of his wrestlers wrestled their first match that weekend. There are a couple of tough young kids that I remember from last year that were not present, one with a mole on his face and another in the middle weights. I was impressed by his Heavyweight, he is quite an interesting prospect, especially since as Moonie mentioned, South Miami has been very successful with the heavies.

Key West, Doral, Naples, Flanagan and Coral Shores - ALL POWERHOUSE SCHOOLS!!!

I am truly impressed and in awe of the explorers' STUDLINESS in KEY WEST.

I am afraid for all those teams left on your schedule.

Who will you be penetrating - I mean exploring next?

Hey djarp a.k.a "Mr. Pena",

You're kidding right? You are going to brag about beating Key West and Doral Academy? Wow that is pathetic but I guess when you are at Columbus there is not much to brag about. Hey why don't you get Coach Husk to send the team to a big boy tournament so maybe at the end of the season you can get more than 2 state qualifiers. And maybe, just maybe, if you are lucky and after 8 years of wrestling, multiple national tournament trips, and $20,000 invested your SON might possible qualify for state this year! Don't worry though it is not his fault he is doing the best he can considering the poor gene he is working with!

Sincerely,
A Big Fan

He must be kidding. Columbus sucks!

The best thing to ever come out of Columbus is KW. Other than that...

Columbus does have a couple of decent wrestlers but will never do anything special if they continue to run away from tough teams. A tournament at the Keys, that's a Joke, like someone mentioned earlier it's a JV tournament.

Ouch ! ! ! Don't you think your being a bit rough on Mr. djarp. I'm not sure if it is Mr. Pena but those were fighting words. If you are going to attack someone like that then you should man up and sign your post, otherwise just state your opinions or facts and not personal attacks.

Djarp,

I wish you'd get a screen name, but I won't bother you about that anymore.

One question, did you smoke all the good stuff in Key West or did you bring some back with you.

You can't seriously be hyping Colombus off of a win against those team can you?

You are just trying to be funny, pull our leg, cause a reaction, or goad us into tearing into you.

Likely it's all of the above.

Wrestling is wrestling and Columbus is a great team in time we will show everyone what we are capable of. Don't be surprised when we beat everyone. I'm just here standing by our team so lets keep the personal attacks away from these post. Tear all you want and laugh all you want,we will still win.

Hey Pena,
You started the attacks by saying the Dood Duals was a JV tournament, don't start back-peddling now because we know who you are. It is one thing to stand up for your team but your delusions of grandeur of sickening.

I love it how everyone rallies for their favorites. I'm not one to put teams down, but I'll call it like I see it. American seems for real. Without a doubt that bald headed, anti-social of Osorio knows what he is doing. I never doubted that he can whip up a solid team with that great talent at American. Recruits? Not so! He just jumped into a good situation and made it better. A big test for them will be against the Ridge, or SD. Don't believe #3 Braddock or #4 SW or even Columbus can hold them off head-to-head in a dual meet. Homestead probably has as much talent as American, but for Homestead it's going to come down to coaching. Sort of like those Carol City kids of the past. Those kids with the right coach would be a powerhouse!

Anonymous said...

Is it me, or does Columbus bring a bit of arrogance when they attend tournaments and dual meets.

They walk into meets with their EXPLORER t-shirts being worn by the kids and those pain in the ---- parents. No wonder people like to see them lose. They are good, but boy did they crumble at the end of last year.

Anonymous said...

Ditto to that. It is so true they would come in to meets with all those parents/coaches/watakas wearing the same shirts standing around like they are the sh*t. I thought it was funny when I was informed that they were in disbelief when the team basically went down like flies during the distric semi-final round last year.

Money can buy a lot of things but class is not one of them. On my side of the fence we tend to call those people 'nuovo rich'. They have all the things that come with money but they are still the hillbillies of God knows where. You are either born with or taught class you can never ever buy it.

Spiderman said...

Moonie,

Well reasoned, but there is one group that rivaled Colombus back in the day (actually not that long ago)as far as obnoxious parents, team demeanor, and pompous arrogance. Still they had some fine wrestlers, and kicked ass much of the time. I think Galactus will most fondly remember the parental and crowd chant, it went something like this

PALMETTO

P A L M E T T O O

P A L M E T T O O O O

P A L M E T O O O O O O

The mere memory of it makes the hairs on the back of my neck perk up. It was the perfect chant to go along with their smug air of superiority.

GALACTUS said...

Yes, I remember I have depised their pansy assed parents and coaches since then.Do you remember when one of their coaches went into FKU as "Wilbursucks" just to trash Wilbert?I think you know who it was.Funny, the Sheriff never did anything about it

GALACTUS said...

look for our match against South Dade powerhouse....Downrite.We'll see who's tuffer, Rio or Little Balmeceda.

Anonymous said...

Hey,Moon Beam.
It's "Nuveau Riche'
