New Poll

Which Wrestler will taste defeat for the first time this year at the Homestead Duals?

This poll is brought to you by one of our faithful readers.

I decided to start this poll before the other one ends because it can give us an exciting preview of what may happen at the big event in Homestead on Friday and Saturday.

Some of the top individuals in the state are going to be competing there this weekend, and a premier event such as this one deserves some hype, and this poll might just do the trick.

It is a shorter poll than usuall, as the ending time of the poll is set for Friday at 11:00 AM.

So let us know what you think...

I think Little Dewberyy should have made your poll. Why did you not put him on there?

Hall will lose twice.

Anonymous,

I did not think to add him, the reader that suggested the poll did not offer his name either. I think it was more a poll of top ranked wrestlers than anything else.

Booger,

Ouch, lose twice you say?

Would you like to tell us to whom he might drop his first match?

I do believe he is still undefeated if I am not mistaken.

Does anyone know if he has brokenthe 90 pound barrier? I would be more encouraged about his possibilities if I knew he was closer to 100 LBS than to 90.

Earl Hall will probably not lose this weekend unless Villanueva from South Dade is at 103 which I doubt, and even then it would be a good match. Hall is a better wrestler but may be too light for Villanueva. I would not count Hall out though. Noffo from Coral Reef may have a weight advantage also and is capable of beating Hall. I believe Hall weighs about 100 not sure.

What schools will be wrestling at the Homestead Duals this weekend? All these studs mentioned are in different weight classes. If that's the case, they all are going to go unbeaten. Any head to head?

morales sr v. williams sd

watson hom v. sanders sd

Sanders is going to kill Watson, didn't a no name wrestler from Miami High pinned him at the Dodd Duals. What William is wrestling Morales, if it's the Rat, Morales has no chance, if it's Josh, Morales will beat him by a close score but the match will be totally controled by Morales.

There is a good chance of Alex Eggers and Sanders wrestling this weekend. I think they will both be at 145lbs. But if Alex drops to 140he will get the benefit of wrestling Baez, either way he is going to have his hands full.

Well the winner, er loser in this case was Niko Brown of Osceola. In the second dual meet for Osceola Niko Brown wrestled Javoris Plain of Southridge. Javoris won by a score of 10 - 8 in overtime. Javoris jumped out to a quick lead, but showed signs of being tired, as he was pushed for the first time this year. I remember Niko gave up some takedowns early, scored a reversal late in the second. Score was 8 - 6 going in to the 3rd and Niko was down, escaped got his 1. Javoris took his second injury time, Niko went down and tied the score. Niko had several takedown attempts near the edge that he never finished. Javoris got the takedown in overtime for the win.

Ronel Lubin almost be Javoris to the punch. Ronel opened up an early 6 - 2 lead on Pete Baldwin. Pete scored a takedown, followed by 3 back points of a cradle for the lead, before he finished of Lubin with a pin. Pete Baldwin will wrestle Quint McPhearson tomorrow.

Joey Morales was not really challenged today and I don't see anyone catching him tomorrow.

Wilosn Metellus was also undefeated on the day. Wilson might get matched up against Ronald Howard tomorrow, not sure what weight Ronald is going.

Earl Hall is still undefeated and only really has Sean Donnely of St Thomas in his weight class. Matt Noffo is not wrestling and Mauricio is still at 112.

Some other good matches tomorrow, Gabe Bird vs Tico Baez, 1 of the Eggers vs Kendrick Sanders, Levi Clemmons vs Stephon Moore, Gunner Magolicia STA vs Jerry Silva SR, Gunner vs Zack Parker West

Matt Noffo not wrestling? Is he hurt? I thought him and Hall would have a good match. Do you know the reason why Matt Noffo is not wrestling?

103 Earl Hall Hom maj Jacob Grant 12 - 3.
112 Mauricio Villaneuva SD pin Strozier pin in the first.

125 Josh Williams SD maj Jose Romero 16 - 8.

135 Tico Baez SD injury default over Ronald Howard. Tico hit a beautiful ankle pick at the edge, but Ronald's ankle got caught underneath him.
140 Wilson Mettelus SD pin Altnor in the first.
145 Elyse Fontaine SD maj Antwain Eddie (formerly Taylor, the 4th 9th Grade County Champ in Homestead's line up). Elyse won the match 16 - 5.

This was a nice warm up for South Dade right before the Osceola match.

South Dade vs Osceola
160 Luis Montalvo SD pin Corey Webb in the second. Luis hit a nice broomstick like move from a sprawled position and scored the pin from there.
171 Levi Clemmons Osc pin Stephon Moore in the second. Levi looked really impressive from the top was running a nasty stack 1/2.
189 Niko Brown Osc pin Travus Webster in the third. Strange scrambles and Travus almost had him on top, but Niko worn him down and secured the lead for Osceola.
215 Bennie Howard SD forfeit
285 Willie Wiggins SD pin Camacho in the first. Willie threw a nice hip toss.
103 Jacob Grant forfeit
112 Mauricio Villanueava SD pin EJ Jimenez in the second. Mauricio was riding tough all weekend, had 3 different set of back points before he scored the pin in the second period.
119 Pete Baldwin Osc pin Quintavin McPhearson in the first. Quint scored 2 takedowns on some impressive singles. After the second takedown, Quint couldn't let Pete go fast enough, Pete kept Quint's arm scored the reversal locked up the cradle and got the pin.
125 Matt Jones Osc pin Josh Williams in the first. Josh scored off of a single leg scramble. Locked up the cradle and got the pin.
130 James Williams SD forfeit
135 Wilson Metellus SD forfeit
140 Tico Baez SD dec Gabe Bird 4 - 3. Tico scores off a shot on the edge in the first period ends 2 - 1. Gabe takes down, Tico evens the score. Tico with his second impressive takedown of the week, scores off of an attempted foot sweep of Bird. (That takedown was almost as impressive as his takedown vs Randy Pineyro on Wed. Randy hit an inside trip and Tico was starting to fall back when he hit a beautiful lateral to secure the pin over Randy.) Tico cuts Bird right away score 4 - 3. Tico takes down, Gabe rides him out, but Tico wins for the second time of the year.
145 Kendrick Sanders SD dec Alex Eggers 5 - 3. Kendrick scored 2 great takedowns. Alex was deep several times that Kendrick got out of. Kendrick had some great takedown attempts that Alex scrambled out of. This match needs to be on Youtube. The final takedown that Kendrick scored when he hipped over a charging Alex from a single leg was natural Kendrick.
152 Tim Eggers Osc pin Darin Anguiano at the end of the first.

This match was even better than last years and that one was classic.

Did Noffo from Coral Reef wrestle at the duals at all.

Anonymous said...

24 pts by FF and only lost by 18..

CoachKW said...

anonymous,

Yes Osceola gave up 24 points in forfeits, but did you see who got the forfeits.

Do you really think some one would have beaten Rat or Wilson?

Osceola put up a valiant fight, they did not have enough wrestlers to defeat South Dade. Each school won 5 matches, but South Dade won the 2 high profile matches.
