Team results from Western this past weekend.

Disclaimer: This tournament did not allow a true wrestle back. If you lost in the round of 16 the best you could do was 7th. If you lost in the quarters you could get 5th and if you lost in the semis you were going for 3rd automatically. Several early upsets, hell the 7th place match at 103 was between the #1 and #2 seed. Some bad draws 1st round Rey Parrado Gol defeated Robert Ruiz HML, Ruiz would normally wrestle back to place in a normal tournament.

South Dade took 14 wrestlers placed 12. 4 Champs, 2 Runners Up, 1 3rd 2 4ths, 2 6ths and 1 7th.
103 Jacob Grant 2 – 2 took 5th, lost to Monteforte Sar (Champ) and Bentancourt Mia in the 5th place match.
112 Mauricio Villanueva 2 – 2 took 4th, lost to Monteforte Sar (Runner Up) and Guzman Mia in the 3rd place match. Pinned a Plantation wrestler and defeated Olarte of Krop.
119 Quintavian McPherson 3 – 1 took 2nd, 2 pins and a dec. Lost to Nodar Col in the Finals 3 – 2.
125 Joshua Williams 4 – 1 3rd, 1 pin and 2 decs before he lost to Abramat CBay in the semis.
130 James Williams 5 – 0 Champion, 3 pins, 1 tech and a 10 – 5 dec in the finals. Pinned Paramore HML and Rodriguez Brad, defeated Gulesian Col in the finals.
135 Wilson Metellus 4 – 0 Champion, 1 pin, 1 tech and 2 decs. Defeated Santibanez Am 10 – 5 in the semis and Parrado Gol 7 – 2 in the Finals
140 Tico Baez 4 – 0 Champion, 3 pins and a 4 – 3 win over Steven Arcelay Miramar in the finals. Pinned C Howard Col in quarters and Alec Diaz HML in the semis.
145 Elysse Fontaine 2 – 2 took 4th, pinned Taravella and majored Ely. Lost to Schaffer Creek in semis and Piasecki JC for 3rd.
152 Kendrick Sanders 4 – 0 Champion, pinned Gomez Mia and Rodriguez Krop, defeated Raich JC 14 – 7 and Lopushansky SB 4 – 2 3OT in the finals.
160 Luis Montalvo 2 – 2 took 6th, pinned Everglades , lost to Starr HML 11 – 10, pinned Koeing Col 3:42 and defaulted to Perez Brad for 5th.
171 Stephon Moore 1 – 2 DNP, not a strong weight class for Dade.
189 Travus Webster 3 – 1 took 7th, lost to Cooper City , pinned Jensen Beach and Sarasota , and majored American Heritage for 7th.
215 Willie Wiggins 4 – 1 took 2nd, 3 pins, won by default and lost in the finals.
285 Wain Elliton 1 – 2 DNP, pinned Lobos Mia, lost to Chinchilla and Creek.

Congrates to SD, Col. and Am. I heard it was a pretty good tournament. I was told that South Dade was missing a couple of wrestlers? Columbus made a believer out of me, awesome job. American, third place isn't bad for a new coach. What happen to Braddock? They beat Southridge a couple of days ago and now disappears at Western?

American had no 103 and 112 for any matches the second day. Also, the 119, 125, and 189 didn't wrestle some of their final matches for some reason.

I think that they would've placed at least 2nd with everyone wrestling.

But I guess we'll see those who were missing last weekend tomorrow. (I wouldn't doubt American giving Braddock a beating either.)

DR. DOOM said...

American WILL beat Braddock tommorrow and the the score will be (46-24). Not-so-Sorrio will make believers out of all you doubters because the "Force" is strong with-in him.

Anonymous said...

I agree with Dr. Doom, American should beat Braddock. How did they get rank higher than American, I don't know? My prediction is American 42 Braddock 20. Braddock will win 4 out of the 14 weight classes. I believe Braddock has never beaten Osorio on a dual. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Spiderman said...

Anonymous,

That is a pretty silly statement on your part; it is egocentric and devoid of thought. You are obviously an American Patriot yourself since you can't see the forest for the tree's.

Braddock was ranked higher simply because they were ever more deserving. If and when American defeats them, then you may have the higher ranking post knowledge.

Braddock is a well established and consistently formidable team; American previous to this year was Garbage.

It is a testament to Osorio that they are elevated to contenders so quickly, but to think that American deserved a higher rank than Braddock in the preseason rankings is asinine and could only have be thought of by an American insider.

Moon Knight said...

Anonymous,

Osorio thrives on disrespect and uses that to power his teams. I can't imagine what he is going to do to you when he finds that you just gave Braddock bulletin board material. I agree with Spiderman, Braddock was and is the second best team in the county. They will stand out in the tournaments that matter as they always do. They have injuries and mishaps righ now but we will be back in full power by regionals. Congratulations to Osorio and his American team for being very good very fast. Now go see if you can keep your kids off this board before they embarrass you further.

Moon Knight said...

Anonymous,

Braddock migh lose today to American, just might. The real match will come in february and you know that Braddock will be ready as for your team, well.

Anonymous said...

I agree, American is tough and has a solid team. They seem to standout in dual meets, as the teams of Hialeah in the past. But isn't the true measure of a team determined by how well they fare in tournaments? Osorio is a good coach, but don't underestimate the teams that may not do as well in dual meets as they do in tournamnets.

Moon Knight said...

Anonymous,

It seems that dual is a better judge of a coach’s abilities and gamesmanship than tournaments. In a battle of two equally strong teams, positioning of players and strategy comes into play. Within the confines of tournaments weaknesses cannot be hidden and are in turn exposed. As it is said, the cream shall rise to the top in tournaments, there is a measure in duals that magnifies a coach’s talent. I don’t mean to dissuade your opinion on the veracity of tournaments but a coach can have a higher influence the outcome of duals than in tournaments. Four individuals can make a team look formidable in tournaments while at the same time make their team seem pathetic in duals by comparison.

South Miami was a phenomenal tournament team a couple of years back but was inept at duals. This proves a coach’s ability with individuals who really and honestly seek that state title. By the same token it also proves that same coaches inability to create and sustain a competitive team for duals. By these measures and standards who is to say what is a great coach.

Coach Phillips, formerly of Krop, was great at strategy and positioning in duals and yet had great success in tournaments as well.

Balmaceda is another coach who has shown a unique ability to shine in duals as well as tournaments.

Let’s not bring down Tejada, Johnson, Osorio, or Mendez (to name a few) if they don’t do well in duals as they do in tournaments. They each have done great at times in both areas and are to be admired for their tenacity and work ethic to keep a team together and be competitive in both duals and tournaments. Remember that weaknesses are exposed in the Regional tournament which can be hidden in duals. I think and believe that this alone proves the necessity for a team state tournament in Florida.

Spiderman said...

Moonie,

Well stated.

I agree about the difference between Dual Teams and Tournament Teams, and also see the need for a Dual State event. The problem is the state would not have both, they would replace the current system with the Dual Tournament or not have it, and since wrestling is in essence an individual sport, to do away with an individuals ability to win it for himself would disturb the sacrosanct makeup of the individual sports.

I agree that the finest coach in duals as well as tournaments was Phillips.OK gotta go feed my hogs
