I want to thank the Coral Reef Wrestling team for allowing us to use their gym for the 4th year. Their wrestlers did a great job working the tables. I want to thank Vic Balmeceda, Jay Flinchum, and Ralph Rico for reffing the matches today. I want to thank Albert Pardo for getting me in contact with his friend who rush ordered the trophies for me, and delivered some outstanding team trophies and medals. I really want to thank the Palmetto parent that helped with the injured wrestler before the paramedics arrived.

KW,
Thanks for the report.
I think it's safe to say that the future of Dade County wrestling is very secure.
why did s miami (1-3) finish ahead of ammons (2-2) and palmeto finish ahead of jorge mas canosa (3-1). i know palmeto beat cutler ridge (also 2-2). ammons is better than s miami. richmond should have wrestled jorge mas canosa for 2nd and ammons should have been ahead of s miami. good job to alapatah. you guys wrestle good. and were was 120 from glades?
Anonymous,
I only posted the results, I have no idea and thought the same thing myself. The only thing I can figure is that it is a typo, but you will have to wait on an explanation from KW if that doe snot suffice.
I agree. On Saturday Ammons looked like a better team than South Miami. But the Final standings were determined by how you finished in the first round pools. Ammons finished 3rd behind Palmetto and Culter Ridge. While South Miami was able to defeat The Gator All Stars in their pool. South Miami was in the 4 - 6 Pool, while Ammons could only go as high as 7th. Palmetto looked better in the morning, but they came out of that pool a little bit banged up and missed some wrestlers for the final 2 matches.
No offense towards any official, especially one donating his time, but Rico needs lots of help. From points not being awarded to no-calls to the lack of respect from table workers - he needs instruction and guidance.
how about the wrestling of richmond and jorge mas canosa forsecond place. what happen to the 75 for ammons. he was there and then gone. also i didnt see the 120 of glades.
There was no actual 2nd place match. After the first 3 pools finished, the teams were repooled based on their records in those pools. All the 2 - 0 teams were put together to determine 1st, 2nd and 3rd. All the 1 - 1 teams were put together to determine 4th, 5th and 6th. All the 0 - 2 teams were put together to determine 7th, 8th, and 9th.
Yes Canosa and Richmond ended the day with identical 3 - 1 records, but because of the pools, Richmond finished in 2nd place and Canosa finished in 4th place.
This tournament never has equal pool strengths, because I'm always asked to match some teams up so that they can wrestle a District Dual meet they could never agree on a date during the season. This year, Cutler Ridge had to wrestle both Palmetto and Ammons. We had 8 teams show up, but several teams had back up wrestlers, that is why we formed the All Star team to get every wrestler as many matches as possible. I agree that Pool 2 Palmetto, Cutler Ridge and Ammons was the harder pool. If Cutler Ridge did not need to wrestle both teams, I would have seperated them.
As for some of the other questions. From what I understood the Ammons 75 had a baseball game he had to get to. The Glades 120, I'm not sure what happened exactly, I know the Coach was out of town for about a week and a half and was not happy with the report he got from the teacher that was supervising the kids.
As for the Official, he offered to help and I know what he is going through, he just wants to work and keep himself busy. He loves the sport and is trying. Yes he might miss some calls, but his heart is in the right place. I did not like how the table workers were treating him and I expressed that to some of them. Those are some of our County's best wrestlers, but they still need some lessons on how to treat people.
I would like to attend the districts for middle schools. Where and when?

johnson blows calls! he misses calls and makes matches go his way. it is easy to see which way a match will go when he refs. away from anybody white and especially away from anybody from palmetto. he showed plentty of favortism to cutler ridge and richmond. i guess it will continue for counties. were screwed.
anonymous,
that is real big of you. To criticize one of Dade County's best officials and not have the guts to sign your name. Johnson is out hear doing the Middle School Athletics a favor by working these events, and now he is getting dragged through the mud for 1 match. I guess he made up the winning points. Now I didn't watch this whole match, but when I looked up I saw the Palmetto kid in a cradle on his back giving up back points.
I really wish these Parents would allow this kid to just come back next week and win it, if he is supposed to. I understand that he hadn't experienced defeat yet this year. He won the Youth Fair, won all his dual meets and only lost because 1 the table workers and the ref decided to let him get pinned after the whistle, 2 another ref decided he wanted the Cutler Ridge kid to win so he called the match that way. I'm waiting to hear how he got screwed in the 5th place match, oh wait they already coverred it he didn't care anymore. Well I hope he cares this weekend and proves last week was a fluke, if he doesn't I would hope that all of these anonymous(s) posters will have the dignity to come on and say that they made a mistake complaining about the reffing in his matches, but wait that won't happen.
How is he doing anyone a favor? He worked for free? I know he calls pins and stalls where there aren't any. Lots of people are talking of video of his bad calls. I say they post it on youtube, not that he would give a $hit.
He is doing us the favor by working these events, when all he gets is abused from the crowd. He has a family that he could spend time with. He has other hobbies that he could spend his time with. He does for the love of wrestling and Dade County, not the little bit of money he earned. Pardo could make more money in less time doing his side business (He installs closets, ask him about it), but chooses to help out and ref. No one does it for the money, the money only helps to justify the time away from the family.
He is doing us the favor, because if he doesn't show up, the refs that replace him will probably mess up in more than 1 match and then we will be talking about the reffing as a whole being horrible, as opposed to a collaberative effort to bring down 1 undefeated wrestler from Palmetto.
First the 105 pounder, mission accomplished. If I were your 128 pounder I would watch my back, the refs are coming for him next. You parents really make me shake my head. Do me a favor and stay in the stands this weekend.
If he is doing us a favor, maybe we don't want anymore favors. Is that a threat against our 128? At least now we know what to expect.
I guess they don't understand the use of sarcasm in Pinecrest. Don't worry I will stop now.
It was just a joke. There was not concentrated effort to go after your 105 pounder, I was making fun of the conspiracy theories on this board and the other. There is nothing in the works to go against your 128 pounder, I was just trying to show you how paranoid you guys are. It is just wrestling, you need to learn how to lose with some dignity. The only good thing that I saw, was that the wrestler in question never complained about any of the calls, it was only the adults.
Anonymous,
Wilbert Johnson is not only the finest official in Dade County, but likely the State and probably most other states as well. He is doing the Junior Highs a big favor by officiating their matches because he is way above the effort it takes to officiate a junior high match. There is one thing all you people of privilege have in common, and that is that you don't have the courage or education to admit when you are wrong. You go around making excuses for your kids and blaming everyone else. We saw a similar situation in high school this year where the father kept stating that his son could not get a fair match officiated in Dade County and he could not wait for a neutral referee. Well he got his wish and his son almost got D'Qed for stalling by the neutral ref. He gave up more stalling points in Lakeland than any of the three Dade officials hit him for combined. Keep making excuses for your kid, that is a great lesson you are teaching him, maybe you should bring a lawyer with you to counties and get an injunction against anyone calling any points against your boy; the rich can get away with an awful lot.
I have spent 29 years of my life as teacher, coach, and an official. Never before have my integrity and race relations been attacked in a public forum in this negative manner. I don't need this B.S. Maybe in your eyes I deserve it, so you win, I'm out!!!!Last night, my best friend in life lost his father to a long bout of illness. I have now decided to attend his funeral this weekend. Also, from this day forth, I vow to never step foot on a wrestling mat to officiate a middle school wrestling match. I have better things to do with my time than subject myself to this type of B.S. My personal relationship with coaches/wrestlers have no bearing on how I call a match. Am I perfect ? no, but who is ? This is not a one time occurrence issue. The statements that were made are well thought out and deep rooted. The feelings expressed these past 3 days did not just arise from the events at this past weekend's District meet. Oh, BTW, my best friend and his son, my godson fit the physical description of most of the venom spewing individuals on this web site who see me as the biogt. Wow !! What irony !!!Good luck finding your next scapegoat, you bitter and irrational individuals.
Yours Sincerely,
Wilbert Johnson
Pardo and Kevin, thank you both for your support. I will be at the County meet after the funeral. I will personally thank you again.
It sure got quiet in here. So anonymous, is that "mission accomplished" or are you pondering the fact that there are consequences for your infantile tantrum.
We got some dumb mother f ck ng parents and coaches. The problem is people do not know their role. parents need to do their job at home and that is it. If you think you can do better then do it.Take off your little suit off and put on some wrestling shoes.
Coach J,
You can’t let these people get to you man. If you do then they get their way and it’s the rest of us that lose. I understand that your friends fathers funeral is more important, but please don’t make it your policy to not do any more junior high events based on something one idiot said. I guarantee you if you asked 100 people 99 of them would be on your side, so you can’t let this one moron affect you so negatively. This internet thing is funny a lot of the time, but its also mean and anyone can say anything they want and hide. The only thing you can do is ignore it and be confident that you are a good person and that you are doing the right thing because if you do anything else it just fuels the fire of these idiots.
Coach Pardo
Coach Johnson,
I wholeheartedly agree with Pardo on this one. If you let the negative statements of this one ignorant and obviously bitter individual affect your personal disposition it can’t serve but to gratify that individual. As Pardo said, the internet can be a very mean place, one does not have to be responsible with their comments, and can basically say anything they desire with impunity. Not everyone chooses to use their power of anonymity responsibly, with facts, and honest and well reasoned opinions, some use it to spread their vile because they are consumed by their own self loathing and lack of personal fulfillment. I think it would be a mistake to base any personal decisions on the merit less words of one individual posted anonymously on the internet. I sincerely hope you reconsider and measure the loss that will be felt across the board in wrestling if you no longer officiate junior high competition in relation to the pleasure you will award the individual bringing forth these bogus, self serving, and baseless accusations.
Spiderman, KW, Pardo....
I was raised to believe that a man's "name" is his most precious possession, and I have strived to live by that standard. My character and name have truly been tested on this board and the other. In my almost 30 years of committment to this sport I have to deal with the following: "coward", "wilbur sucks", "racist"..... When is enough, enough ?!!! I have had to stand by and watch my little cousin being unjustifiably attacked both in public and on this and the other forum. In my position, I cannot respond in any shape, form or fashion. It may be time for me to totally step away from officiating, and get back to my love of coaching. I promise not to be as abusive to officials as I have been known to be in the past. I wish that the promising young officials such Andre Cupas, Eddy Medina, Mervin Ford, Leo Perez, David Galarce, and Jason Bendezu will step up to the plate and replace this old 53 year-old body.We are looking at a two-year window.
Pardo, You know me better than most, I made a promise not to officiate any more middle school matches, so you know what that means. I do not play with promises.Thank you again for your support and kind words. Peace.
cheaters
Coach Johnson,
I completely understand your position, and I respect your decision.
I am truly sorry that someone used my forum to cause you such anguish. I do not believe in censorship or I would have removed their post as soon as I saw it. Instead I believe the words inherently gain or lose value based on the merit of those words.
There are many times where I have said things to anger people behind the security of my anonymity, not because I am afraid of confrontation, or because of any cowardice, but because others tied to me might be affected, and while I could certainly deal with any repercussions that might come my way based on what I might say, I could not in good conscious allow it to affect those that are innocent of my personal views.
When I am critical of a person or their actions I like to think there is a solid foundation, truth, and verifiable evidence of the criticism I am making; in other words though I may say some unpopular things, I am responsible with my comments, and I do not in my opinion abuse my Anonymity.
There is however no way for me to guarantee that every anonymous person on here would abide by the same criteria that I do, so I don't bother asking.
Like I said, I don't believe in censorship and therefore I can not compromise my ethics and morals to remove this idiots comments even though I find them baseless, and hurtful.
One of my favorite historical quotes is,
"Though I vehemently disagree with what you are saying, I will fight to the death for your right to say it"
Spiderman, My problem is not with you or your forum. These attacks are the "American way" of intimidation, whether the internet is the weapon or the "old school" approach of the hooded linen, the motives and intent are the same. Cowards who can attack under some form of secrecy and safety. I know my limitations, and I also in the past have had to apologize to a man that befriended me when others turned their back on me, because his parents attacked on the other forum, I reacted very distastefully to their accusations. I will not risk losing this man's friendship again because of a few parents who didn't get their way at the middle school Districts this past weekend. If I were to continue officiating middle school matches and one of these "bratty" parents stepped to me improperly, I may lose a lot of what it has taken me a long time to have. Thank you for your time, Spidey. Johnson
Coach Johnson,
There are people on this and many other sites that use the power of anonymity for their own gain. Those people hide and deal personally devastating blows to us as coaches, referee’s, and sometimes parents. We know the truth about who we are and how we do our job and most of the people around the sport also know the truth. Unfortunately there are times that we feel compelled to respond to those idiots in kind. That only serves in making us lower our morals and ethics just too verbally defend ourselves against words by an idiot that may cause a perception of impropriety. These subterranean and vile scumbags who call themselves human hide behind a veil of anonymity and laugh at our anger and frustration at not being able to respond in our own way.
Unless I am mistaken one of your closest friends had to suffer the indignity of being attacked and scrutinized here as well for the bad luck of having a great and remarkable young wrestler as his son. He stood there looking at all the faces in the crowd wondering what person was the culprit who accused his character and demeaned his son. All the while his son went on and won the State Title. His composure and dignity throughout that whole ordeal now stands as a testament on how to deal with these individuals. Coaches have also been accused of impropriety and their names have been taken thru the mud by anonymous posters seeking revenge for their inabilities and shortcomings.
I hope that you will also reconsider your above actions and continue to serve the wrestling community as you have for so long. You will always have your detractors and with the internet and these forums those maggots are now able to showcase their views and complaints no matter how it hurts the sport and individuals. Your work is totally appreciated by the people who know the sport. To have you turn your back on the middle school just because of one angry parent allows that parent to win and for the rest of us to lose a great referee and Hall of Famer. Please keep us in mind as you continue to stand by your former position.
Coach Johnson,
I completely understand your position; I have spoken privately with some that are close to you and I now better understand your indignant resolve.
Your arguments are very well articulated, and I see the truth of your perspective.
Historically it has always been the case that those in a position of privilege resent and fear the freedom, the desire, and the Passion that comes with fighting to get ahead.
There is little more threatening to the establishment than the influence of a member of a minority that has through his own initiative attained a position of power and respect.
Equality is great when it brings you up to others, but when it brings others up to you it is a different story.
People fear the loss of status and privilege, and will through the means you described defame and bring inquisition against those that appear threatening. As you said so eloquently in your post; today it’s the internet, but it is not long ago that a white sheet with holes cut out for eyes and a burning cross as tactics attempted to realize a similar end.
The comfort of familiarity is the foundation of bigotry, but it’s when diversity threatens to take root that it leads to racism.
spiderman,
you said there would be middle school updates. hoaw about some updates and predictions to get the focus away from the negative and back to the posative?
yeh how about it...back on topic with middle school?
95 for ammons is going to be one of the best if he keeps working at it. This was his first year wrestling and placed 3rd in countys.
