I was here before you and I will be her after, for legends never die they merely fade away.

10 years have passed now, and yet it was like yesterday that we first met. I swung into action in the fall of 99’ at first just sticking my big toe in the water to gauge the temperature. It was not long however before I caused an uproar and with that I found a home on the internet and a forum to say what I wanted to say, all with the security and impunity of anonymity.

"No! No different. Only different in your mind. You must unlearn what you have learned."

What exactly did I say? A complex question out of context, but simple if you take it all in and break it down. I simply said what you were saying, to each other, in the bleachers, at the corners of mats, during the off season tournaments, in steamy practice rooms, on your way to an event, at the years end banquet, out with your wrestling friends, and to those with interest and who understood the sport.

I never abused my anonymity, for I treasured it as a privilege and I understood that with responsibility comes credibility. My arguments were well reasoned, well argued, and logically sound.

"My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius, commander of the armies of the North, general of the Felix legions, loyal servant to the true emperor, Marcus Aurelius. Father to a murdered son, husband to a murdered wife. And I will have my vengeance, in this life or the next."

You could hate me for saying what I was saying, but you could not negate it’s merits. My opinions were my own, and I always made it clear what was fact so as not to confuse them with my personal feelings. 10 years later and countless arguments behind me, no one can say that I misrepresented the facts, but you may surmise as you like in regards to my opinions.

Brandon was a major point of contention at first, all you could do was spew about their “Streak” and it’s lack of legitimacy, but I was the one who brought it to the forefront, legitimized the argument, and gave your objections spirit and teeth. I brought the pressure with your support and eventually Brandon could not but relent, for after all is said and done the pen always proves mightier than the sword. It took only 5 years to get Brandon to wrestle a representative schedule, and it was a mere 4 years later that the “Streak” was finally put to rest.

"Surely you can't be serious." - "I am serious. And don't call me Shirley."

Miami was another focus, I am the proud fanatic of Dade County Wrestling, it’s spirit of competition, and the superior level at which our kids keep each other with the instruction and dedication of some of the best coaches in the state. I made no bones about Dade being the wrestling Super Power in Florida, I accurately predicted year in and year out our supremacy in Lakeland, only to have Joe Blow from Orlando (or some other city with delusions of grandeur) run and hide the week after states because he could not stand to listen to the “I told you so”

"Cinderella story. Outta nowhere. A former greenskeeper, now, about to become the Masters champion. It looks like a mirac... It's in the hole! It's in the hole! It's in the hole!"

Individuals were my delight, I followed the studs of South Ridge, Ralph Everett, Mike Rio, Eddie Blue, and Carols West. I Followed the legends of South Dade, Patrick Williams, Alex Hernandez, Danny Perez, and more recently Rat, Tico, and the Freak. Braddock and South Miami Had some studs as well; Braddock with the Chandler Brothers, Chris Ripple, Andy Perez, and Sergio Hernandez; South Miami with the Estopiñan Brothers, Shropshire, Turner, and Kakrah. Krop and their lunatic of a coach turned my head with Greg Joseph, Chris Thorne, and Giovanni Harris. Hialeah burst on the scene late but made a quick impact on me with Ariel Mederos and Frank Celorio. My focus in Dade was the South, it is where I reside after all but I did take notice of some other top dogs around the county; Alan Herrera of course, but also Anders Cupas, Julio Lopez, Marques Coleman, and Michael Dominguez to name a few.

My greatest memories of this endeavor always comes from the laughter it brought me quite frequently. It was after all my main motivation in breaking away from the other site. Here you were free to mock, parody, make fun of, and pick on anyone you wanted so long as it was not profane, what more could you ask of a place than that it makes you laugh till your sides ache.

Dr. Doom you are genius, I will miss the Dade Wars and your song lyrics.

PlaysWithDogs I never laughed so hard as when you had something peculiar to say.

The rest of you were funny at times, but none as consistent or as prolific as these two (though PWD went missing on 08-09), but I would like to extend my appreciation to the rest of you that had a hand in the success of my site. KW goes without saying, Mooney, The Ref, Galactus, Venom, The Devils Advocate, Paladin, and I hope I am not forgetting anyone.

Of course thanks to all the anonymous posters as well, they were a big part of making the site fun and relevant. You could always count on my anonymous posters for the hate, controversy, and attacks that fueled the site and ultimately drove it to get banned from MDCPS. But that is of no consequence, I may not have agreed with what you said, nor may I have liked the way you said it, but I would defend to the death (the death of this site) your right to say what you want to say.

Who am I you ask? But why do you ask if you already know. I am you I am your voice, your conscience, your representative and your advocate. I am your complaints, your affirmations and your integrity. I am your brother, your father, your neighbor, and your friend. Why would you want to know the magicians trick? Isn’t it better to believe in the Great an Powerful Oz than it is to pull back the curtain and see a guy pulling levers.

If I told you who I was you’d knock yourself on the forehead and say “Of Course” and then you’d wish you did not know, it just more fun that way. So I am happy that after 10 years I can leave you with this mystery that will endure beyond what it ever could should I be exposed before my departure.

I am one of you and none of you. I am some of you some of the time, and none of you all of the time. I sit next to you, behind you, in front of you, and in some cases in private with you. Dade County schools blocked my site once before, I fought through with some allies and had the Blog restored. But this time I will not bother, they teach our children that censorship is better than the truth, and that opinions can and may be suppressed. That’s fine, it’s their server and I can respect that they have the right to do as they see fit, but since most of my readership lies within that entity and they will no longer be able to enjoy the blog throughout the day I have chosen instead to hang up the costume and bow out gracefully, still on top, never having been discovered, with the trust of many, and with an integrity built solely on my word as a man.

The Cavalier Duals

Not bad for one of the last events of the season. There were some interesting match-ups, and even an upset or two. I have conflicting reports however as one source tells me Columbus looked flat and in complete contradiction another source says Columbus was sharp, I will let you decide where you think each source is coming from.

Jupiter was down to Coral Gables to get a little taste of Miami and they did, catching a whooping from Palmetto and Columbus. They did get a nice victory against Columbus by Handing Noffo an unexpected loss.

Cypress Bay was also down to get a taste of Miami and was also summarily dismissed by the tournament powers. Keep you eyes on Cypress Bay as a team of the future there, we all know coach Mac can coach, and you should see his kids, they are all stocky and look menacing. I don't know what Sammy Sosa's kids look like but there picture him in a singlet and you will have an idea of what most of the Cypress bay kids look like.

NMB looked better according to one source, they looked more relaxed and hungray than at the G.M.A.C. but that could also have been because the level of competition at the Cavalier duals is much less intimidating.

All in all not a bad little even to wrap up the regular season.

Upsets, Overachievers, and Other Treats

I've said it many times year in and year out for that last ten or so seasons; there is no tougher tournament in this state (except the state tournament) tougher thatn the G.M.A.C.

Year in and year out wrestlers with a top rankings fall to wrestlers with little or no accomplishment to their name. It is a tribute to Dade County and the strength and level of wrestling that this occurs on a yearly basis.

Just look at the facts,

Chandler (119) the top ranked wrestler in the state is nocked off by a wrestler who does not make the top five in the state poll.

Luis Montalvo the number 1 ranked wrestler in Dade does not even place.

Travus Webster is knocked out with what looks to be a serious knee injury after a toe to toe battle.

Noffo knocks off McPhearson but is then dominated by Harris.

OX knocks over the state champ and made it look easy.

It truly was as it always is, a memorable G.M.A.C.

This weekend at the G.M.A.C. wrestling tournament the F.H.S.A.A. and the G.M.A.C. will be promoting Breast Cancer awareness. The contest officials will be wearing pink whistles to show their support. We respectfully ask that coaches, parents, faculty members, and fans in attendance show their support for this cause by also wearing pink. There will also be stations at which you might make a donation towards Cancer research. Please show your support and don the Pink; and if you don’t you might still find some spare change or a few loose bills that you could donate for this great cause.

Well I know the word playoff wrestling does not exactly fit, but for me and my love for wrestling that is exactly the atmosphere that I can equate it too, so I will call it playoff wrestling because I feel like it, and as always, I will say what I want to say.

19-9 Discussion

In my 10 years doing this I have never shied away from conversation, confrontation, criticism, discussion, or any other means of verbal sparring. I have also never shied away from admitting being wrong when I have been wrong just as I delight when I am right.

I did not make further mention of the Poll because there appeared to be more pressing and interesting topics upon my return from hiatus, however, there is at least one person that would like to discuss the ethicality of holding or retaining your child back for athletic purposes.

The Poll was pretty clear cut; most voters clearly felt that Holding you child back for athletic purposes is not Ethical and should not be a allowed.

There were 81 participants in this poll, and a Majority 44% of voters felt that holding your kid back for athletic purposes is cheating.

38% feel it’s unethical and should be illegal.

37% feel the FHSAA should revise the rule of 19-9.

37% felt that parents are hurting the kids with this practice.

The much smaller minority was not opposed to the practice of holding kids back and instead found it favorable, and at times necessary.

I erroneously believed that the people who read this poll could separate their personal bias and emotions and respond based on logical progression not to mention existing legislation that governs what actually takes place. This is not to say that I do not understand that many people who voted do not like the rules, but not liking the rule does not equate to cheating when no rule has been broken.

My comments are simple, the rules are there for a reason, not to use the rules to ones advantage is less than diligent, especially if dismissing the rule is putting your child at a competitive disadvantage.

The evidence that holding a child back has far more positive effects than not holding him back is clear and present and simple to find. Eric Grajales is of course the poster child for the success of a child being held back for competitive advantage. However, I would like to know who are the kids out there that are hurt by staying longer when clearly kids that are held back are more mentally mature (not just in wrestling but with their studies), more physically developed (which can not be argued), more adaptable to the stresses of high level competition, and more ready to compete in an elite class.

I understand that this is a personal choice, if your child is hurt by this rule such is the nature of the beast. Kids nowadays have an expression, “don’t hate the player, hate the game” I don’t think the person who came up with that statement recognized the reasoning behind what it is they were saying, nevertheless it is accurate as it applies to the FHSAA and athletics. There are many FHSAA policies that we don’t like but must nonetheless adhere to, so when you find one that can help you, it would be silly not to use it to it’s fullest.

These are just my opinions, and I would certainly be happy to entertain and discuss any and all points of view. Never again say that Spidey ran from a conversation, it is simply not accurate.

The Patriots Invade And Stop The Crusade

The Match started in the perfect spot at 112.

112 – Harris completely dominated Noffo 7-0, like I said in my preview, Noffo would do well not to get pinned so from that point of view, he did his job.

119 – Guervich actually battled enough to make it interesting I expected more from Ore but Gurevich was pumped by the atmosphere and had a good showing.

125 – Borges wins decision over Cortez in a match that was pivotal. To tell the truth both wrestlers seemed sluggish and this match was blasé.

130 – I was way wrong on this one, I thought Perez would give Gulesian a run and maybe even beat him, but Gulesian was dominant and Perez looked like the Sophomore he is. Props to Gulesian.

135 – Rio pins as he was supposed to, and is looking more like big Brother Mike than he ever has before, I can’t wait to see him in the G.M.A.C.

140 – Nodar gets Columbus a Major and looks good but I would have preferred to see him against Santibanez.

145 – Santibanez toyed with Hidalgo and earned American a much needed Major decision at this point. He looks good in his return and I anticipate he will be down to 140 by G.M.A.C.

152 – Decision for American, neither wrestler is very memorable, but that seems to be the theme for 152 this year.

160 – Pena moved up in a nice strategic move by Columbus and looked tough but could not get the pin needed by Columbus to stay in the match with Columbus’s week spots coming up.

171 – Abeledo dominates and gets a big 5 with a tech to bring back the Patriots.

189 – Castillo earns a big Pin for American as expected and here come the Patriots.

215 – Columbus forfeits and word in the Gym is that Abadine calls it quits so don’t expect to see him again with a Cross on his back though he may hence carry one on his shoulder.

HWT – Chirino dominated the entire match despite the score, he was never in any jeopardy of losing this match. The official for some reason refused to call stalling but I got the impression if someone rolled a basketball across the mat he would have called traveling on Wethy. Wethy did have one thing that worked really well, his reverse gear.

103 - American Forfeits! Nice ploy by me to get them to think I was going to pull a rabbit out of my hat. Problem is my rabbit is too fat.

103 Mark Gulesian vs ?? Has Leo Miller made 103? I little birdie told me he was trying.

112 Matt Noffo vs Armanni Harris. Armanni has won the last 2 matches and beat McPhearson handily.

119 Kevin Gurevich vs Julian Ore. Ore beat Mauricio, I think Ore is the easy favorite.

125 Lazaro Borges vs Justin Cortez. Borges probably a slight favorite, but it should be close, and Close is all American needs in these weight classes.

130 George Gulesian vs Christian Perez – OH OH!!!

.135 Jake Rio vs Camilo Hernandez. Rio is favored, but Santibanez might make the drop though more than likely if he is back he will be up a weight class.

140 Louis Nodar vs ?? could be Santibanez, and if it is Nodar needs to be pure, it will all depend on how much Santibanez has recovered. A normal Santibanez will best Nodar.

285 Alex Wethy vs Henry Chrino. BIG POINTS!

It will be hard for Columbus to win all 9 matches from 103 - 152. I see them being favored in 2 of them. But American could possibly win all 5 from 160 - 285. If they get forfeit or pins that could be bad. American can win 4 of those light weight matches, which would be bad for Columbus.

On paper Columbus apparently has the favored wrestler in 8 matches and American has the favored wrestler in 6 matches. But this is not Fantasy wrestling it is for real and it will not happen on paper, but rather on the mat.

In any case, Bonus Points puts American over the top, time to chug some Motor Oil.

Despite two forfeits American manages to keep it close, a testament to Osorio, his kids and their preparation. It is now more evident than ever that South Dade's off season acquisitions managed to keep the Patriots at bay for yet another year.

I was impressed with Montero for South Dade; he has gotten bigger and stronger and has added some SD magic to his game. He looks to be a force at 125 and could present a problem for someone who thought their ticket to Lakeland was stamped.

Villanueva looks too small for 119, and I would not be surprised to see him make the cut to 112 soon but then what happens to McPhearson.

Metellus and Sanders were their usual impressive selves, both were trying to get SD pins but American was in pure survival mode in these two matches and in both managed to give up fewer points that South Dade was inclined to acquire.

Eddie was not impressive to start, but a burst of athleticism earned him a pin that helped to seal Americans defeat.

Montalvo impressed as well with a vice grip, head pressure, and a series of Near Fall scoring maneuvers that outclassed his opponent for a major decision.

Wiggins was underwhelming at best, maybe I expected more form him but he could easily have lost to a virtual unknown.

AMR

Harris was Very impressive, huge for a twelve pounder and my early favorite to Steal the 112 division, he dominated McPhearson and overpowered his much smaller rival.

Ore was impressive as well as he managed to defeat a more seasoned and more accomplished wrestler, but I feel that Villanueva is better suited for a lower weight class, the problem is where does that put McPhearson who is already small at 112, quite the dilemma for Balmeceda I think

Perez was impressive as well, as much a bruiser as his brother was, but also showed some skill and endurance his brother never had, he will be a force at 130.

Abeledo and King had a violent head collision; it was hard to tell who got the worst of it because King was not allowed to continue due to what might be concussion as the trainer repeatedly checked his eyes with a flashlight before calling the match. Abeledo was having his head examined by the trainers as if he possibly needed stitches. Abeledo seemed the stronger of the two and was well in control and ahead of King when the collision ended the match.

Castillo does not look like much but was able to handle the seemingly more athletic Webster.

Chirino was Frustrated by SD’s heavy for a while but eventually used his superior size and strength to Subdue and Pin the smaller opponent.

A Brief History of Ron Osorio

Osorio's history

He wrestled at Miami Beach and stayed like so many other kids to help his former coach. He coach for 5 years there before something happened and he stopped. I believe that last year Miami Beach sent 7 to the state tournament and placed 3rd in Regionals. After his departure Miami Beach suffered a collapse similar to the one Hialeah suffered at his departure. Here are some names that may be attributed to Osorio at Miami Beach other than Baez.

He was out of wrestling until he began to coach at JFK middle school where he was feeding NMB senior. Once again and for some unknown reason he leaves for Hialeah instead of taking over the NMB program. NMB may not have suffered that great collapse that Miami Beach or Hialeah went thru but many still wonder what might have been, sincve many of the wrestlers that would have followed Osorio to NMB ended up at Krop doing great things for Phillips. The bottom line is this, Osorio goes to a school and they have great teams. Not the best, never the best but great enough for people to take notice. He does this mostly without a middle school program, without a kids program, and without multiple coaches.

No, Osorio is not Spiderman, but if he were what else would he say, and how would he have all this information. Remember when the Spiderman was Coney and the rationale was that Coney hated Brandon. Then I was Mahler because Mahler hated Brandon but also loved South Ridge. Then I was Pardo because I loved South Miami kids and spoke highly of Pardo, South Dade, and Pardo's friend Balmeceda. Then I was KW because SD was the greatest thing since sliced bread and it just seemed like the I was way too smart, and had way too much information and knowledge of computers and Mathematics. Now I am Osorio because I have hated on South Dade for their recent behavior, and because I have picked a little on the saintly boys of Columbus. OK if you say so...

I sincerely care very little for whom you think I might be, my real interest, what keeps me going, and my true anticipation is on whom you think I will be next.

I will start a new poll on team and individual rankings, but it will only be open to registered voters. The reason I can only tabulate registered voters is so that voters may only cast one ballot. If I were to allow anonymous voters then the box could be stuffed and I won't have that.

Here is how it will work.

The voters compile a list of Teams from 1 to 10 with 1 obviously being the highest rank, the voters will then do the same for the individuals in their respective weight class but individuals will only be ranked 1 to 5. I will compile the rankings every Monday and post the consensus. The rankings will be featured on the right side of the blog as a permanent section week to week, the first edition will be out next Monday.

So get your list ready and start posting which teams and individuals you feel are tops in Dade County.

No real Shocker that American won these duals, that was expected, the real shockers here are the margins of victory. That American could very nearly overwhelm two of Dade Counties top 10 teams is impressive to say the least. I went to this Dual expecting much more but left frankly a little disappointed, though impressed with American. Miami High just came off a decent beating at the hands of Columbus the night before so they might not have been wrestling at 100% while SW chose to FF a number of matches to American for reasons undetermined. South West and Miami High both have very fine individuals in spots; that American could win 11 of 13 matches against MIA and allow SW but a forfeit victory is quite the tale. Oliver for SW sat in the stands the whole night, I'm not sure why he is out of the line-up but he was not in uniform, maybe somoene out there could shed a little insight as to Oliveras conspicuous lack of participation. Osorio continues to impress with his ability to not only build a team but to strengthen and threaten the powers that be. Congratulations to American.

Don’t throw rocks from a glass house is what is shouted and screamed from Vito B’s mansion. Here is a man who built one of the most elaborate and beautiful mansions in the whole state. Every room personally designed by Vito B himself. He decorated the halls designed the bathrooms, kitchen, rooms, garage, and dining room. A beauty to instill jealousy and admiration. When the Christmas season comes around people from all around the state talk and converse about who’s mansion is best and who has the most amount of decorations and how keenly placed those decorations are. Vito B’s mansion has always been one of the most talked about and respected mansions. The other mansions in the state may be beautiful and may also be full of grandeur but they were built on sacred ground with workers from other parts of the state and some from out of state. Those palace owners didn’t and have never cared about their employees’ and that was one of the many things that set Vito B’s mansion apart from all others. His workers were loyal and had been bred by him. He cared for them and worried about their future. Vito B saw to it that they understood loyalty, family, and honor. He would angrily finger point at those other mansions and accuse them of impropriety. He hated the fact that they did not acquire the right permits and got away with slave labor without any repercussions.

Those other mansion owners bragged about how they built their houses without the rights and legal permits nor employees. Cocky and proud they were about how wealth and power could circumvent the most rigid of laws and regulations. Proud they stood holding the end of the year trophy given to the best mansion and palace in the state. Accusations flew from one corner of the state to the other and they smiled it off. In private they would excuse their methods by stating, ‘their parents wanted those kids to work for me, what was I going to say , their getting well paid, they are getting better opportunities, they are getting better benefits, they are seeking to better their standing in the world we are just helping, their education comes first.’ Snarling, Vito B hated those people and the many trophies they took from him and his solidly built mansion.

The Greenhouse Effect Pt. II

When you start such a massive building project like a greenhouse, the first couple of years there are workers coming in and out of your mansion. Skilled craftsmen and specialist working on specific areas in the greenhouse. Some working on lightweight stuff, others maybe middle of the ground but in general people see and notice the massive work being done in the mansion and the annex being built. Dirt, sand, mud, garbage, and fired former employees fired and dismissed fill the streets and the local coffee shops begin the chatter. They begin to question, ‘did Vito B get the right permits? did he acquire the correct paperwork?’. Most just wonder why he would start such a project now when his mansion is already grandiose and the fame of his palace well known. Does he really need such a massive greenhouse? Word gets back to Vito B and shocked he wonders, ‘who me? What? No way.’ He finds out what people are saying and angrily screams, ‘hey you guys also have windows to.’ ‘You shouldn’t throw rocks from a glass house’. He blindly compares his massive project to that of his smaller neighbors and their home improvement projects. You guys had a window built in your home a couple of years ago. I never complained about your window, I was happy with the improvement. I didn’t send anyone after you nor did I cajole anyone into questioning your permits to install that window. I had nothing to do with the inspectors harassing your home and videotaping your projects even if it hampered my view at the time. Angrily Vito B questions why his own friends and comrades have turned against him or why they would seem so unhappy at his new project. There is no real need for them to get angry he thinks to himself. It’s not like they really have a shot at winning the end of the year trophy. Their houses are small and really can’t compete. Hell they hired a craftsman here and there, they are no better than I. Oh how wrong you are Vito B, how very wrong you are.

He sends his best friend in the world to seek out answers and defend his building of the greenhouse. His friend angrily and logically defends Vito B and explains why those employees came to Vito B’s mansion and are now working for him.

In a couple of years people won’t notice the greenhouse. They will just consider it part of the landscape as well as part of the biggest, best, most decorated mansion in the state. His minions will be carefully chosen from his greenhouse and used in different parts of the house. A little lavender here, a rose there, a couple of carnations in the front, and maybe a cactus here and there just to add some bite to the mansion. His believed former friends long gone and the chatter in coffee shops now quelled and silent, Vito B begins to hoard trophies and awards. He even begins to get national recognition for the sheer beauty of his mansion. The only thing that now is different is that his desire to better his employees and his undying effort to help them is long gone. No longer are relationships developed thru time and the fires of trouble. Now he has become that which he has always hated. An overseer who simply guides his workers and when the job is done for that year discards them effortlessly and goes to his greenhouse to get another bunch.

Happy and content he will be after he weathers this storm. He might just end up being the most decorated and successful palace owner this state has ever seen. An honor many may see as well deserved but don’t expect former friends and colleagues to jump for joy while exclaiming his greatness. Don’t compare a window here and there to a greenhouse. Don’t stammer and jerk and coerce people into agreeing with you. Don’t spout angry words of comparison and don’t throw shout out ‘don’t throw rocks from a glasshouse’. These are simply not the same things. Remember well that most of the new employees were with you and your family over the summer going here and there doing this and that. A couple of build it yourself workshops here and there where all participated in. Get angry at your people and scream injustice and spew hatred from your lips. Know this, Vito B is still admired and cared for, he is still considered a friend and a colleague just don’t expect the people of this county to sit quietly and not be displeased or even angry at your greenhouse project. Open the subject up and the displeasure will always come up. Talk or defend the project and anger will rise. Compare and contrast the different building techniques and disgust will be evident. Maybe in the future a hearty congratulation will be in order but Vito B would be ignorant to think that ANYONE within a stone’s throw of his palace will be happy. Vito B and his buddy should know that nobody really cares anymore. No one seeks to dethrone him and take his place. Just don’t bring up the subject and defend it with pious words and righteous indignation. That just makes Vito B look like the other palace builders and mansion owners. And that is not Vito B. It has never been him.

The state of the economy has everything in flux, and the Spiderman is no exception. I have been extremely busy in meeting after meeting trying to resolve some personal business issues and that has at times kept me from being more vigilant of my Blog.

I would love it if there was someone that stepped up to help out when I am indisposed but as of yet no one has done so; therefore there is not much I can do when I am called to personal or business matters about keeping the site relevant.

Even Rome fell, and so will the Spiderman. Don't think I have not contemplated retirement because I have. I have been at this for 10 years, and there will come a time (and it could be soon) where I will hang up the web shooters, and if there is not someone there to take up the cause this format will be lost.

My apologies for not being ever-present, I do as much as I can single-handedly.

The results are in, and we have a tie…

It seems there were two equally disgusting and unethical practices according to the Lairs readers.

A distribution of 42% voted for believing that in fact using a fake address to gain entry into another school known as the “Brooks Ploy” is the most unethical practice one can undertake. I agree with this one, and yet it is the most oft used maneuver to get a wrestler in your school which does not belong.

Equaling the “Brooks Ploy” in matters of unethical behavior was the “Palmetto Method” the practice of fastening a Visine bottle to your genitals in order to cheat the hydration test and pass. Another 42% of you felt this was a blatant act of unethical behavior. I also agree with this one, it is a clear cut circumvention of a rule, regardless of your opinion of the rule itself, it is a rule.

The third most despicable act was the “Balmeceda Breach” where one purposefully defaults a match in the quarter finals to jump to the other side of the bracket for a favorable match-up and a better shot at making it to Lakeland. Personally I believe this is the most benign of unethical acts since there is clearly no set rule to prevent this from occurring, it is more an implied matter of coaches honor and the spirit of competition and so forth. Nevertheless, 15% of you felt it was the 3 most unethical act of the choices allotted.

The fourth most unethical act according to our readers was the coach following a wrestler to a school having previously informed his wrestler where he would be transferring too, otherwise known as the “Osorio Maneuver,” Again, I find this to be the next least benign breach of ethics, since technically it is not breaking any rules, I don’t even like the rule that a kids can’t follow his coach. Coaches put a lot of work into their wrestlers, and if they chose to move or are forced out, they should have the option of bringing their wrestlers along assuming the parents can provide transportation to and from the new school. I think Osorio played this one very smart and outwitted the establishment and their stupid and archaic rules. Still, 10% of you felt it was unethical.

The fifth most unethical thing to do was the Academic transfer to a private school from Magnet also known as the “Noffo Ruse.” I have a hard time finding anything wrong here either other than some recruiting implications that have never been levied. If a wrestler chooses of his own volition to uproot from a program and move to a private school, well I don’t see anything wrong with that at all. Only 9% of you felt that was unethical.

And finally the sixth most unethical thing to do is the magnet transfer after your freshan year otherwise known as the “Hankerson Ultimatum.” I would have put this one a little higher, I believe unless there are extenuating circumstances, athletes should remain at the school where they started their freshman year or lose a year of eligibility. Only 3% of you found this to be unethical, but I would have had it as third right after the “Brooks Ploy”

We Have A New President

Obama wins in a land slide with 349 electoral votes to McCain’s 147.

On the Spiders Lair it wasn’t close either with Obama receiving 58% of the vote and McCain with 48%.

The most interesting part of the poll however was the 16% of voters who voted for McCain but stated with their vote that although they were voting for McCain they were of the belief that Obama would win. By contrast, only 1 person said that they were voting for Obama but they believed that McCain would win.

I will say that I also voted for Obama, not because he is black or white or young or for Change, or because I blame Bush or for the many myriad reasons that I have heard others quote. I voted for Obama because without looking at race, or the need for change, or the deficiencies of this extreme right leaning GOP, I truly believed in my heart that not only was he the best candidate with the best plan, and the best course of action to bring this country out of our tail spin, but because he seemed best prepared to deal with all the factions of political groups that all seek to enrich themselves no matter who it neglects.

The greatest country in the world has a new president, he is black, but he is also white.

He is rich, but he also knows what it’s like to be poor.

He is an eloquent speaker but he also knows how to listen.

For the first time in my history I have a president that I can actually relate to, who was not born of privilege, and who started out with nothing and made something. I have a president who stands tall on his own merits and not on the shoulders of his father or grandfathers, and who did not allow the obstacles placed before him by those unwilling, unable, or incapable of accepting someone who is different from hindering his need to be good, do good, have success, and feel the need to serve his country under those principles.

As for John McCain, I felt true sympathy for him; he is a great person, a great man, who I truly believe above all else loves his country with passion. Unfortunately his party let him down more than he let them down, he was pigeon holed by the GOP into what they believe this country is all about and unfortunately that was not the John McCain that many of us liked so much. The John McCain who spoke last night during his concession speech is the McCain that should have run for President, that John McCain could have had a chance.

Though this was not wrestling related, it was still a fun poll to have and it’s good to know that the readers of the Spiders Lair not only took the time to vote on this poll, but also that the readership of the Lair reflects the demographics and the diversity in this state and this country.

Well it was no surprise that most (43%) believe that SD’s 07’ team is certainly a squad that could have won a State Dual title to go along with their individual team title. After defeating Brandon, ending the “Streak”, and winning the Graves (the toughest Dual tourney in the state by far) how could anyone doubt that SD would have also won a Dual Title.

Second on the list is Palmetto (with 27%), and rightfully so, their 96’ squad was a powerhouse almost top to bottom with very few holes if any, they proved it with a state title and I believe if they would have been offered the opportunity, they could have ended the Streak 11 years before SD did it, and would also have won the State Dual event.

The third and fourth selections are a little more suspect; South Dade back again with the 99’ team (21%) that also won a team title but was not strong up and down the line-up as was the 07’ team. The 00’ South Ridge team was also very strong, but did have some glaring holes and a team title would not have been easily earned. Would either of them have had a shot? Absolutely, but it is not the foregone conclusion that it was with the 07’ SD team. 99’ and 00’were also two years where Brandon had much vulnerability in their line-up, but again to say definitively that either SD or SR would have knocked them off in those years is a stretch.

Two New Polls Hit The Lair

The first poll is one that should interest us all since we are about to elect a new President. I am interested to see who the readers of this Blog feel will be the next President of the United States Of America, and also if the majority on this Blog is in accordance with the rest of the state and the country.

The second Poll is very interesting as well, Obviously since SD beat Brandon in a Dual last year they should be the odds on favorites to win this poll, but I am more interested in identifying whether the readers of this Blog feel there are other Dade teams out there that could have not only won an individual State title, but also have ended the “Streak” years ago (assuming of course Brandon would have made it to the finals).

CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI PRE-SEASON CLASSIC

I have been apprised of the politics involving Dade County schools and the use of their facilities, and the reason for so many of the recent tournaments in Dade being canceled. Apparently MDCPS wants to charge exorbitant fee’s to have a tournament run in one of their gym’s, and this is the reason for the cancellations. Apparently there would be no money left to anyone that sponsored a tournament which in turn makes the need to have a tournament negligible.

Well at least one group has found a way around it, The City of South Miami Wrestling Club is hosting a tournament at the City of South Miami’s new state of the art Recreation center. I suggest if you’d like to save some money by attending a local tournament that you head to this one on November 8th, as it might be the only pre-season wrestling tournament in Dade County for a while, unless City of South Miami Wrestling decides to host another one.

The Polls Close... The Results Are In

Well I must say this poll did not turn out the way I expected; I was sure when I posted the topic that SD or Brandon would win in a landslide, but to my surprise that was not the case at all.

It turns out most voters have their own ideas of which place they would like to work at, though not many were very specific as to what location that might be, “My preference is not listed garnered a great majority of the votes and let the way at 43%. This is very interesting; I wish there were a poll where posters could fill in the blank because I am curious to know the variety and reason for their personal selections.

Coming in 2nd was a another mild surprise to me, Palmetto Senior received 28% of the votes, apparently there is much to be said for stability, academics, and parental support is the only thing I can figure.

Columbus was 3rd with 23% of the vote, not a surprise at all, I expected Columbus to be one of the top choices, who wouldn’t want to coach at a school of academic excellence with the ability to attract and acquire the finest athletes with virtual impunity.

South Dade was 4th with 21%, a surprise because they are lower than I thought, what with the superior class of athlete that walks the halls at South Dade, I figured any coach looking to make a name and win a title would be thrilled to take the reigns at SD.

And rounding out the top 5 we Have Kissimmee Osceola, not so much a surprise that they made the list, but a surprise that they finished ahead of Brandon and Braddock for sure.

I hope you all enjoyed this poll, I think it shows the diversity of thought in the wrestling community. While there is no overwhelming consensus as to what most people think about SD’s recent acquisitions, there is a majority (38%) that feel that those kids going to SD is nothing more than a byproduct of a successful program, that coach is not guilty of recruiting, and that SD is merely the beneficiary of the coaches dedication and intensive work ethic.

A good number of you (29%) are of the belief that the SD is guilty of blatant recruiting, that the coach is aware of it and doesn’t care, and that he is arrogant to the point where he believes that he is so well connected that there is nothing anyone can do about it so tough $hit for you whiners.

There are also those of you that feel (21%) that in fact some of those kids were likely recruited into attending SD, but those wrestlers and their families bothered to do things properly and by the books so those kids are there legitimately and that is all there is to it.

A small number of you (7%) thought the coach bore some responsibility, and that if a wrestler that belongs at another school approaches him about transferring to his school, that the honorable thing to do would be to steer him back to his home school.

And of course, 3 of you comedians or legally blind followers of my Blog are of the belief that there is no recruiting going on at all, that everyone is exactly where they belong and wrestling has nothing to do with any of it.

The Question Pops Up Again, WHO IS SPIDERMAN?

You want some clues as to my identity? OK, through the years there have been many actually, for those paying attention and making mental notes they could actually have a very good picture, the problem is deciphering what is real from what is deception.

For example, it is a fact that I am a Male, there is no disputing that… Or is there? humm… Anyway, let’s just make that one a fact.

It is also a fact that I am well versed in Florida wrestling lore, with a command of names and dates exhibited by few others… Or am I? Maybe I just have better resources and informants that fill in the blanks when I am in need.

It is a fact that I am at all the big events like G.M.A.C. , Districts, Regionals, and State… Really? That is a fact??? Maybe I just have so many great informants that I can assemble all the information they send me into such a coherent display that it’s as if I were there whether I was there or not.

It is a fact that I love Fishing, Traveling, Sports, teams generally in the south, History, Language, this country, our Constitution, Benjamin Franklin, great quotations, and Pop Tarts.

If I told you who I was your likely reaction would be Awwwww Helllll NAWWWWWW…

There is nothing worse than knowing how a magic trick works, or learning that there really is no Santa Clause, or coming to grips with the fact that the Great and Powerful OZ (or in this case Spidey) is just a feeble old man behind a curtain.

"Guito Huskatoni"- The Godfather of Wrestling. Oldest and most dangerous crime boss in the south. This wise guy has been known to leave a dead horse's head in the bed of an official when he feels he has been wronged. Knows the inner workings of the system and practically has every important figure in his pocket.Husktoni is connected to some of the most ruthless sh*t that has ever happened in this town. Crimes include; recruiting, falsifying finnacial aid documents, impersonating a priest and gender/race altering. His last whereabouts was Stir Crazy.

"Rocco Vito Balmaseda"- The Lil Don is part of the upstart youth movement to take down the Godfather. Known for a temper that matches his stature this little Pizone' has been linked to several recent burglaries where he and his mafia have snatched valuable members of other mafias and have forced them to join their crime family. He like Huskatoni is connected and seems to be untouchable by the law. Last whereabouts was leaving the Biscayne building where the atrec comittee met. He was also seen with a fist full of hundreds and naked pictures of some older blonde lady.

"Renzo Osorio"- Slowly but surely this little crime boss has worked his way up the ladder and made a name for himself as one of the most ruthless Mafia leaders in town. Leader of the Americano family Renzo has proven that you don't have to be made or connected to be successful in this ugly business. Has been known to kill off members of his own family before big events just to prove that he could win without them. Crimes include Grand larceny from Goleman and Krop HS and pimp slapping a princpal and trepassing in the lakeland center.

"Liam McSoderholm"- This once powerful crime boss grew up in the trailer parks of Dublin and came over to this county and ran some shit for a while. Crime boss turned informant, McSoderholm is one of the most dangerous man in the county. He too must have some naked pictures of someone important for him to get away with the crimes he has commited. His crimes include assault with a deadly hot dog, narking, snitching and throwing rocks while living in a glass house.

"Rocky Pardoa"- Leader of the Cobra cartel this once feared mammoth of a man rose up through the ranks as a hitman. Using his size and martial arts back ground Pardoa intimidates weaker men to change their minds and their calls. Some people believe that Rocky Pardoa may infact be the alias for one of the most sought after criminals of all times. His crimes include; impersonating an offical, illegal alien smuggling and impersonating a superhero.

"Mikail Turnakov"- This crime boss of the Russian Mafia literally made millions from his family's prophalatic company and you would think that this would deter him from a life of crime. Easily recognized in the sunshine state by his pastey white skin, pale blue eyes and torret-like mannerisms, Makail has an uncontrollable obsession with latina women. Ironically enough his lust for these women spawned half of his crime family and was the reason for most of his success in the crime world. Always followed closely by his enforcer Boris Bogdan the two of them could be seen often ranting and raving about how they got screwed. These two together form a lethal mix of testosterone, vodka and anger control issues. Crimes include; Impersonating a soccer daddy, DUI, assualt and battery on an official and womenizing. Last seen leaving Tootsies in a pair of silky jogging pants and with no underwear.

"Joelangelo Mendeciano"- Don't be fooled by his quiet demeanor Joelangelo used to be one of the most tricky and devious crime bosses in the south. About 10 years ago he and his partner Guiseppe Gonzalo were two of the most ruthless and undermining wise guys in town. During the 90's there were many neighborhood turf wars for up and coming hitmen, many of which Joelangelo and Guiseppe landed. Their crime family was very strong and prospering but Guiseppe had a buisness on the side and was taken down in a sting by some crooked cops and the crime family hasn't been the same since. Remarkable Guiseppe's incarceration did wonders for Joelangelo's reputation who is now viewed as an ethical and honorable buisness man. But don't be foolish, like the magic city we live in his business was built with dirty money.

"Sal Tejaducchi and Sergio Valenti"- These two wise guys are often over looked and usually fly quietly under the radar. But one should never judge a book by it's cover, these two bite size wise guys pack a punch. Together these two little canolies have built up quite a crime family that should be feared. Given the fact that neither one of these guys went to college to officially become a true crime boss they somehow have earned the respect from the other Don's and Mafia leaders. With the addition of irish mobster Kevin Whalinagan the family's future should be prosperous. Their crimes include; two counts of starvation of a minor, deferring in the 2nd period to a known cradlist and lack of scouting.

"Father Moises Riviera"- In a town riddled with gangsters, wise guys and mafiosos there is always that priest and Father Moises is that guy. His parents must have known how he would turn out naming him "Moises" and all. This saintly man's sweat is the main ingredient in the cleaning product Windex, that's how damn squeaky clean he is. A man whose farts smell like potpourri and sound like an angel playing the harp, Father Moises is the modern day Elliot Ness in a city full of corruption. A man soooo good and pure the Pope himself wears Moises Pajamas. His crimes include; leaving the toilet seat up and driving too slowly in traffic. Last seen in Galviston, Texas saving drowning puppies and kittens.

"Angelo Chef Boy Vazquelinni"- This jolly heap of a man has been in the Mafia business for a while but can never seem to get out of his own damn way. Like a giant mole on the ass of mediocrity he plunders away trying to gain the respect of his peers and build his family. Only considered a crime boss because of his longevity and dedication to the business this man is one ravioli away from cardiac arrest. Angelo had "High" hopes about business this year but was blown away when he heard winter had come early. His crimes include; Sleeping in public, impersonating a coach and staying too long at a chinese buffet. Last seen busting through walls dressed as a giant pitcher of Koolaid.

"A-Ron Philly Harris"-Known to his peeps as "Philly' this upstart tru-gangsta is someone to keep an eye on. Born and raised in the mean streets of Philadelphia "Lil Philly" left his home turf because of some squablin that couldn't get squashed and now resides in the (305). Don't be fooled by his mild mannerness 'Lil Philly has be known to pimp slap a brother or two just for stepping on his new kicks. Highly educated but extremely dangerous Lil Philly is often heard humming the words to Tu-Pac's song "Just me and My Girlfriend". Philly could be identified by several tattoos; one over his belly that reads "Thug Lyfe", two tear drops on his left check under his eye and he is often seen wearing a blue bandana hanging out of his back pocket. Last seen in Lil Wayne's rap video "Millionaire" pouring a 40 on the ground for his dead homies. His crimes include; impersonating a barber and showing up late to gang fights.

"Milo Manolo Condana"- Gang leader of the street gang "Latin Kings" Milo's family defected here from Cuba during the Mariel boat lift. Born into a life of crime Milo could be seen often wearing camaflouge and shooting gang signs to his gang members. Milo is very soft spoken but when crossed can become violent and very aggressive. He is often heard yelling from his corner "what are you doing" and seen grasping his head in disgust at his gang members lack of fighting skills. His last whereabouts was at an MMA school getting choked out by some guy named Triago. He has been linked to a crime that happened many years ago when his seemingly invicible fighter appeared to throw a match against a smaller weaker opponent.

"Gonzalo Stingaree Blanco"- Legend has it that he and his brother are the sons of Griselda Blanco so evil is in their blood line. This little soft spoken Venezualian is the gang leader of the infamous gang "INP" or International Posse. He, his brother and his crew run **** in the weaker parts of town, north of flagler including little havanna. The other crime families are well aware of his existence and are watching closely as he slowly and methodically builds his gang into what soon could be a true Mafia. Some people believe that he and most of his gang are illegally in this country so "La Migra" could take them down before the other crime bosses have to. Last seen leaving the night club La Covacha with his shirt wide open, tons of gold chains, a white belt and wearing white espadrilles.

Some of you are new and others are not, either way here are a few pointers on Blog use. I am glad to see that many of you are now using Aliases as well as in some cases avatars; still some of you have not moved into 21 Cent Tech, and you continue to post unregistered.

Here are a few things you need to know to make life easier and also more fun on the Blog.

Registration with Google is quick, easy completely confidential and free.

The main reason to do it is to have continuity with subject and identity of the posters.

Why add yourself to the list of Blog followers? Just because it’s cool to see how many of us read and use this thing.

I don’t make any money doing this, it makes no difference if you register or add yourself to the list of followers only that it makes for a better experience for everyone involved.

You can register any e-mail account, it does not have to be G-mail, and Google keeps all your information confidential. The only way for someone to know who you are is if you select “SHARE MY PERSONAL INFORMATION”

Once you register, go on the internet and find a picture you’d like to use as your avatar, right click on the picture, highlight and copy the URL address then paste it on the profile section of the Blog.

I am not saying this, that, or the other about it, but I do want to get the impressions of the general public. So make your voice heard and vote on what perception you have on what is going on.

I believe the way the polls closed clearly reflects the level of respect for the top 5 most honorable and ethical coaches, furthermore, I believe it is very accurate representative of was is actual and verifiable.

Mike Turner (HML) – Not only does he run one of, if not the cleanest, program in the state, he wins or loses with what belongs to him. He is a man of high integrity and superior moral fiber when it comes to how he runs his ship. It is not hard to see that he easily outdistanced most coaches on the poll and is the most highly recognized figure of Ethical and Honorable behavior. No skeletons to speak of.

Moises Rivera (SUN) – Not too far behind Turner in the polls, and just as (if not more) committed to doing the right thing. Even though Rivera has been hurt quite frequently in the past by the pilfering of some of his top wrestlers, he has refused to take the same short cuts to get ahead himself. Rivera is unphased by the allure of the Dark side; it’s obvious that his principles as an honorable man mean more to him than any state title. No skeletons to speak of.

Tejada (BRD) - Not in the same league as Rivera and turner, but still clean enough to be well thought of and well respected by the wrestling community. If he has gotten any wrestlers tat Braddock that did not belong to him (The Chandlers) everything was obviously done above board and thorough. There have been rumors in the past that some of sunset’s and Varela’s finest were turning up at Braddock, but that is obviously not enough to dissuade the positive opinion Tejada has earned. Skeletons include the Chandlers, the Perez brothers, and maybe one or two others I can not readily remember.

Gonzalez (MIA) - A bright new star on the wrestling front. I think he would have gotten more votes if he were better known. I have heard rumors that one or two that have wrestled for him belonged elsewhere, and there might be one on the team right now, but I don’t know the program well enough to state specifics. Still, his quick rise into the top 10 along with his the respect level he is receiving for his ethical behavior is to be commended. Skeletons… I could not name any.

Mendez (SW) – Right there with Tejada and Gonzalez in regards to the consensus. Though back in the day when he started out as a junior high coach he was not seen in the same light. Since his arrival at South West however, he has maintained a well balanced and above board program. He has had a few wrestlers represent him that were not of his area, but again all matters were taken care of above board and through the proper channels. Skeletons include, Yandi Gonzalez, the Castro brothers, and the DeArmas brothers.

La Cosanostra En El Condado

The story is an old one, and yet common to the many immigrant families that form the factions that rule this city. The mafia families used their superior organizational abilities to connect themselves with well placed corrupted officials to make themselves and their families prosper while the rest are left to wrestle for the scraps. These Familias realize their gluttonous desires through intimidation, deceit, and when necessary violence.

The Mob bosses in Dade had an understanding amongst themselves, the territories were divided and the boundaries were set, yet every so many year there was a turf war to claim new powers that could affect the long term ability of one family to rule over the rest. Dade County has been divided into three parts over the past several years. Guito “The “God Father” Huskatoni had been around since the Neanderthals roamed the earth and once ruled the southern lands. More recently however he had been deposed by some law men that could not be turned and he was forced to move his operations to the central zone. He took well to this section of the city, and with help from the Vatican’s minions he ruled the central part of the county with an iron fist. Still, his power was not what it once was; he had grown more careless with his actions and was losing that Teflon that had been his shield for nearly forty years. His connections and supporters are mostly deceased and have gone the way of the dodo. In his desperation he has hired lower level hit men like Allensworth Pinis and Mathaglio Nocco. A bold move by an ancient boss who’s time seems to be running out. His last stand with his family is now set and the stage for an open turf war with the new Don of the county Rocco Vito Balmaseda is looming.

Rocco Vito “Little Napoleon” Balmaseda countered Huskatoni’s bold moves by scouring the city for some of the most ruthless hit men ever to be seen in these parts. The first one he went after was a young but brash hit man named ScHall; ScHall had made a name for himself recently when he killed a Mexican hitman in lakeland who was trying to take the spot of baddest hitman in the land. It was a battle that was not easily settled, and just when it looked like the Mexican had the upper hand, ScHall turned the tables and slit the other mans throat as he threw him to his back. This new hitman and his diminutive stature were now under Contract and loyalties were pledged to Vito’s familia. Vito or “Vit” as his friends call him has gone about searching for as many ruthless hitmen as he can find to assure his position for the foreseeable future. He has also acquired the services of a little known hit man who goes by the name Julius Eddwinis; this Bronco sized hit man is now in position to transform himself into a feared hit man as he learns from some of the best hit men that already work for Vit. Lesser known hit men have also been added to this family in preparations for the coming turf war. Vit longs to completely eliminate the Huskatoni family and remove all record of their existence. One of Vit’s closest allies, Nosti Marona has pledged his son Issac Marona and his adopted son Robert the Red to vit’s familia. These Fresh new hitmen were in training at an academy a little further north, but were well trained and will reinforce and already formidable organization. An Asian assassin from the land of eternal ‘Sunsets’ has also been called in just to assure a victory in the battle. With the DA and Police Chief in his back pocket no one dares to even sniff into Vit’s family business because they know that one word misspoken would immediately get back to Vit and all hell would break loose. With a twist of his finger or a scowl on his face this ruthless mob boss will send his cronies in the DA’s office to subdue anyone interfering in his business.

The third mob boss Renzo “The Walrus”Osorio watches from a distance as his enemies make their moves. He seeks to be the one to complete this deadly triangle, and in a bold and unexpected move he plans a move that will cripple his opposition and allow him to move in and be the New boss of the three territories. A different scheme is his however, he relies on help from the Voodoo gods of the old country, as he patiently waits and watches the coming storm and knows that soon his scheming wheels turning in his bald cranium will set into motion the plan to throw the other families into complete upheaval. Renzo already feels he has all the hitmen he needs to take over as the new boss so long as he is able to take out a few of the others families hitmen along the way. Through subterfuge, well placed spies, an assassination or two, and a secret alliance, The Walrus plans to subvert the power for himself and his family as the top Mob boss in Dade.

Now, for those of you keeping score, that is obviously not me. Here are a few of the investigative tools I would apply were I trying to confirm that I was me.

First of all,

Have I ever spoken in anything but complete sentences? NO!

The word Gables is not capitalized, “gables” this is not a mistake I would likely make.

Allen Pena is actually spelled Alan Pena although I have a sneaking suspicion that there is a squiggly line above that “n” which would make it Peña, and how many out there really know how to bring that letter into play..

Very little detail, very little in the way of quantifying his comments, and very little pertinent oratory on the topic at large.

No, if I were investigating this topic to determine whether or not this poster was Spiderman, I would say that “No” this is surely an imposter, and not a very good imposter at that.

Of course, if it were me I would surely know how to fake like it was just an imposter and then I’d come on here with some in depth examination of how it could not be me and you’d all be fooled and convinced that it was not me. LOL!!!

In any case, it’s not me over there, I don’t waste my time on that site, I left there some time ago and promised not to return and I have kept my word.

One more thing, take a look at the list of those members that are signed on to the FKu website, you will often see my name on there because although I don’t post on that site, it is still my main source of passing along and receiving information.

All's Quiet... Too Quiet If You Ask Me

Things have gone very quiet all of a sudden, what gives, I mean I know there isn’t really much to talk about, but even the private email has gone dead. Kind of reminds me of the old days when a Russian premier died and the Russian radio stations all played somber music for a couple of days before official word came that the Leader was dead. Also similar to the way terror cells go quiet just before an attack; if I were the inferring type this silence would lead me to believe that something is up.

Ever heard the expression “this silence is deafening”

All I can say is WOW!!!

I appreciate so many of you stopping by my site, I guess after the long summer many of you were thirsty for some REAL information, some REAL commentary, and some REAL laughter. Well you have come to the right place and we would appreciate more of you taking part and freely expressing your opinions within the boundaries of good taste.

I had not checked my analytics page to see what the readership was like, and much to my surprise it has been through the roof. Even in the summer when the site was dead there were 30 to 40 of you checking in regularly to see if anything new had been posted, but once the word got out that the Lair was once again active, we have seen an explosion of activity. Our first week back we were hovering around 60 to 70 readers, the following week we broke 120, and yesterday we nearly hit 200 readers.

Taking On The Establishment

One of the hardest things to do in history is to fight the establishment. Standing up against the establishment historically has been a recipe for sanction, ridicule, defamation, retaliation, and in some cases even physical violence and murder. I am not saying that anyone would get murdered over a confrontation with The Pirate Master and the Golden Fairy, but many of the other tactics could apply. The establishment always has the upper hand, they control the flow of information, potentially damning documents, and typically set themselves up where they could claim plausible deniability in a last ditch effort if it came to that, which it rarely does. One coach, one person, one parent, one wrestler standing against an inappropriate use of power will have a negligible effect of the establishment, in fact if they are reading any of this they are already circling the wagons for the potential attack, and in so doing crossing those last T’s and dotting those last I’s.

I can think of several reasons why a coach would not go out on the limb by himself, the people he will be facing wield a mighty hammer, and there is much more to lose in a confrontation than a wrestler, a match, or a title. A coach can (if he angers the wrong people) lose his team, his position, and his job. While losing your (teaching) job might be a little extreme, losing the position is not; many coaches are granted favor and preferable assignments because they do so much for the school with kids and with time they are scantly compensated for, but we all know $hit rolls down hill, so let me give you an example of a typical fear of the coach on his willingness to challenge the establishment.

Coach Soandso has a very good team, a team with possibilities of challenging for a title (in his estimation of course). He sees a window of opportunity VS his biggest rival and likes his chances. His rival however goes out and brings in some mercenaries; a move that completely and for all intents and purposes ends the hopes and dreams of this coach’s team to realize their championship aspiration. The coach decides to fight back against what he perceives to be a grave injustice and follows the proper protocols in doing so. They first thing he does is outline a list of grievances and any information he may have that could and should be damning to his rival. He takes this information to his advocate (which should be his athletic director) and delineates for him what this other team is doing, how they have done it, and how it negatively impacts his team and their ability to maximize their full potential. His athletic director responds, OH! I wasn’t aware of that, Periquito Perez (the AD at the school in question) is a close friend of mine, I must speak with him about this so he is not caught with his pants down. This statement completely sucks the wind out of coach Soandso’s sails and he gives in to the nepotistic and narrow view of his AD. Later he is angered by the tone of his supposed advocate and the lack of advocacy demonstrated by one who should be looking out for the interest of the student’s athletes in coach Soandso’s school. He goes over his AD’s head to the Principal who says OH! I did not know that, I am friends with the principal of the school in question; I better call her so she is not caught with her pants down. After much frustration he decides to go over the principal’s head to the director of all sports for the conference who not surprisingly tells him that the school in question has gone through all the proper procedures and the he should leave this alone. The coach involves the Newspaper and the internet, and brings forth his accusations and his proof. The feces hits the fan or so he thinks, but what really happens? The coach embarrasses the director of the Conference, however, she has a trump card, and she lays out all the information on why and how things were done and proves that she in fact was duped by the school in question. The principal of the school in question claims to have been duped by her athletic director, and the athletic director claims to have been duped by the coach, who was duped by the kids and their families. The school in question revokes the eligibility of the athletes in question and all seems well. However, behind closed doors, the director of the conference is not happy at the betrayal and contacts her friends (The Principal and athletic directors) at coach Soandso’s school and tells them that coach Soandso is a loose cannon, that he can’t be trusted and that they should rectify the situation. Coach Soandso goes on to win his title or not, but the following school year he is informed that he will not be rehired as the wrestling coach, his teaching position goes from six honors classes to five 9th grade classes out in a portable, no 6th period supplement, and 2nd period planning. He is also told he is no longer need to teach that night school weight training class, he is no longer need to work security at the football games, and he is no longer needed as the cross country coach. Meanwhile the school that was accused of wrongdoing has now had their athletes sit for a year, the coach received a slap on the wrist, the AD and principal went out and had a drink and laughed at the situation, and everything falls back into place.

If you don’t think this can happen, ask Coach Bill McDonnell, while the situation is different and the circumstances are not quite the same, many of the sanctions fit the bill.

The only way to defeat the establishment is to form a militia; get the common man and have him unite against a powerful wrong for a greater good. The disenfranchised coach, the discriminated athlete, the aggrieved parent, these must be your allies, without them you can do nothing.

I predict right here and now that nothing will come of these allegations, and the status quo will remain in place and in power.

Here is the news as alleged by my informants, I will leave names out of it, figure it out for yourselves.

A Cavalier was busted for distributing some white powder on Campus; word is he claimed to have an addiction, and he is currently living in exile on the west coast.

An explorer was apprehended distributing botanical herbs and was reportedly expelled for his transgressions and had moved west but unlike the Cavalier still within the county. I can only imagine that his father a former keeper of the peace must have been quite embarrassed.

A Bronco with little regard for his instructor feels that his abilities would be better served as a Buccaneer and will find a way to make his move without causing waves if possible. An influential step father will attempt to make the transition seamless, but there are whispers of a rebellion.

A Knight has betrayed his king and left to join his comrades and become a Pirate. Word is it that the Pirate master had his fairy godmother "The Golden Fairy" push the defection past the 8-track in the summer while few were paying attention.

Dade Wars episode IV "The Chosen One"

A long time ago in a county not so far away there was a land where warriors roamed. A land which like no other land was rich in wars and epic battles. Dead were the days of the Evil Spartan Empire and the land of Palmet-toia grew stale and baron. Long gone were the heroes of the past. Heroes such as Eric lightningstriker, banished for his impotent and unsuccessful battles in the land of lakes. New armies emerged from unexpected lands and new leaders gained respect and power. Much had changed in the land of DADE with only one thing remaining the same. An ever present EVIL still cloaked the land. And, for the first time rumors of “a chosen one” begin to surface and hope is still preserved.

As the season of wars creep upon the land excitement and anticipation build. Off a highly successful season of battle the Newfound Patriot Army proves how powerful and devious their new leader Not-So-Sorrio has become. Born a bastard son and raised by two lesbian witches, Not-So-Sorrio “urines “ to come to the land of Dade and participate in the epic battles. Craving for respect and attention he lacked growing up Not-So-Sorrio assembles one of the lands best armies and wages war on the other powers to be. Like a “golden shower” he washes across the land. The Braddock Federation, The Old Spartan Empire, and the Arian Army of Palmet-toia all fall victim to the Napolean-like leader. Legend has it that “as the smoke would clear after every battle Not-So-Sorrio could be seen in the center of the battle field hunching up his short stubby leg and marking his territory as if to say that this is his land now”. But shortly after his rise in power Not-So-Sorrio finds himself at some crossroads. After many exhausting battles against the Evil Darth Husktor, Not-So-Sorrio finds himself strangely attracted to Husktor. At first he thinks he may be a Homo-droid but he later learns that this strange attraction is because Darth Husktor is his father. Filled with anger and rage at the fact that Husktor, the most evil man in the galaxy was his own flesh and blood, Not-So Sorrio also feels complete. For the first time he realizes that he has a real father and he was not born from walrus sperm in a test tube like his lesbian mothers had exclaimed. This was music to the young Jedi’s ears and would also explain his uncanny Jedi-like ability to make chicken salad out of chicken ****. Some people in the land believe that he may in fact be the “CHOSEN ONE”.

Worn and battered like a fish stick from Long John Silver’s the Evil and Powerful Darth Husktor longs for the days when his army would send shivers down the spines of his enemies. When his voice would hypnotize officials and his Jedi mind tricks could influence results. Realizing that his days are numbered Darth Husktor begins to grow desperate and impatient. Although his Christian Army is formidable they are not what they seem. As they march across the county they appear to be invincible. With each victory their elders become more boisterous and arrogant. They defeat armies with glorious pasts and news spreads across the land but Husktor being the wily emperor that he is wonders if his soldiers will fold up like lawn chairs at the first sight of true battle. So his search continues for stronger, faster, darker soldiers. He travels to the Mound of Rich and the Land of Stead with little success. He sets sail across the Caribbean Sea and ventures across a Cuda of small stature floating by a reef. The Cuda is desperate for a home and although he is lacking the pigmentation that Darth Husktor desires he knows he has a spot for him in his army. His travels take him through the path of Krome to a heavily guarded village where all the villagers dress the same. As he enters between the watch towers he recognizes a familiar face, the face of a fallen Christian soldier who once was thought of as a threat. Husktor calls out “Duncan, Duncan Hines is that you”? Duncan replies, Lord Husktor pleases forgive me, for my need to bake and love for brownies is strong and I didn’t mean to harm anyone! Being the “forgiving” man that he is, Darth Husktor pays the soldier’s bounty and his Christian Army accepts him back. His army is almost complete if only he could convince one more worthy soldier to join his allegiance. So he looks to the east to where a swashbuckling swordsman has built up quite a reputation. “This is the missing piece to his puzzle” Husktor thinks to himself. Talks begin and friends are made throughout the season of peace. Wining and dining, stroking and codling, wheeling and dealing the Evil Emperor works his magic and just when he thinks he has convinced the swordsman to join his Christian army BOOM it starts to snow! Now snow is unusual when the temperature is 93 degrees but somehow on this day snow fell on the land and on Darth Husktor’s dreams of power.

Two moons away In the Land of Stead where soldiers are plentiful and victories come often a Jedi is beleaguered. You see sometimes success can lead to a Jedi’s demise if the need to succeed becomes a lust. The land had completed four rotations around the sun since the last time Balma-Solo and his army of Misfits had tasted the sweetest of victories. Jaa Daa the Hutt, a fat evil salesman with a gift of gab from another galaxy reigned as king in the Land of Lakes for the past few rotations, a land once owned by Darth Husktor and more recently by Balma-Solo. Tortured and tormented by his recent failures the Yoda sized Balma-Solo’s thirst for dominance begins to eat away at him. Night after night a dark evil voice speaks to him in his sleep. “The powers of the force are strong within you, release your anger, your jealousy and hate and your powers will become unstoppable”! Join the “Dark Side” and you and your army will rule the galaxy! Confused and befuddled Balma-Solo wishes he still had the services of K2 W2 to enlighten him on the matter and show him the ways of the force. One night while lying restless in his bed, Balma-Solo falls into a deep dark sleep. Nightmares fill his head and suddenly he is walking in a damp, dark cave. He notices a figure standing in the corner with a cloak over his head. As he walks closer to the man he sees the bottom half of the man’s wrinkled old face. He senses an “EVIL” like he has never sensed before. An “EVIL” so pure it makes Darth Husktor look like a quire boy. The man speaks and for the first time Balma-Solo is face to face with the voice that haunts him in his sleep. In an evil scratchy voice the man says “if you can’t beat them, join them”! Balma –Solo replies” what do you mean join them”? “Join the dark side, become one of them, use the powers of the force to influence, bribe and RECRUIT”! “But, once you cross to the dark side there is no returning”. Suddenly, the old decrepit man reaches out his hand and gives Balma-Solo a gift. Balma-Solo glances down at the man’s hand and is blinded by a strange audacious glare. The man hands him a small but powerful black object and exclaims “with this gift you and your army can rule the land”. Intrigued, Balma-Solo opens his hand and looks down at the object. “What is it’ he asks? The “EVIL” man replies “it is the almighty MAGNET”! And, in a spell like way he says “Like flies to a flame, from near and far the strongest of soldiers you know who they are, will come to fight the wars and pay their dues and the Land of lakes will be given to you”. Balma-Solo clinches the MAGNET tightly in his fist. As it pulsates and glows he can feel the raw power and energy it contains. Filled with an “EVIL” he has never felt before Balma-Solo shouts to the man as he begins to vanish, what is your name? In a fading evil voice the man exclaims “my name is Darth Mauler”! And, in a flash he was gone. As word spreads across the land of Balma-Solo’s demise and his crossing over to the “Dark Side” the Golden Queen of the Magic City is devastated. Cries could be heard from miles around, “No! No! You were supposed to be the CHOSEN ONE”! “I loved you like a son. You were supposed to fight against what you HATE and now you have become what you HATE! You were supposed to be the CHOSEN ONE!!!!! Night falls across the land and all is not well in the land of Dade.

South Shade ???

I have had lots of angry e-mails asking me why I have not commented on the situation at South Dade. The truth is there lots of hearsay, and lots of finger pointing, but I have yet to confirm much.

Here are the alleged recruits, and the facts that I have been able to confirm.

Isiah Varona – Always was going to South Dade, applied to the Magnet program early last year and was accepted.

Robert Rojas - Always was going to South Dade, applied to the Magnet program early last year and was accepted.

Gabriel Mardel – Rumored to be to be on his way south but he remains at Doral Academy

Andres Montero - He left Sunset and transferred to SD and apparently has already been through the infamous 8-track (AETRAC) and has been cleared to participate.

Wilson Metellus – I don’t understand the problem with this one, he was there last year and it was not a problem, he has been cleared to participate. There is one source promising to give me game breaking information but he says he is going to hold onto it for now. I don’t know what it could be, maybe that he is an illegal alien or something, it sounds ominous to hear it told, but for now it is a non issue to me.

Earl Hall - He still attends Robert Morgan Senior High but it is rumored that he will be a Buc this year. However, that is yet to be proven since the wrestling season has not started and he is not enrolled at South Dade. If he has changed residence and now resides within SD’s boundaries I really don’t see a problem here either. A lot will be made of recruiting, but what can anyone really prove is what will matter.

Didley Weche – State champ from Pace, just another ugly rumor as confirmed to me by a source earlier today. Apparently he went to some tournament with Metellus and the word spread that he was now aboard the South Dade ship, but my source assures me he is still at Pace

Someone else tells me that another 1 or 2 kids have possibly defected from Homestead to South Dade, but did not provide any names so there is really no way to verify their speculation and it is not worth the conjecture.

So there is lots of speculation and lots of allegations, but so far no one can thrown anything out that sticks.

"The Streak"

I was very impressed with the Documentary last night, and I think the wrestling community at large should be pleased with the Documentary because of the positive attention it brings, and on a national level to boot.

The show gave great perspective on the Brandon machine, the dedication is takes to maintain such an entity, and the pride behind the thousands of kids that have benefited from the program.

I was further impressed with Coach Cozart; I admire his singular dedication to his family, to his team, and to his school and community. Brandon is a great example of what can be accomplished with a great amount of dedication and perseverance.

The Brandon parents should also be commended; the support system they have engineered for those kids is second to none, and people like Cesar Grajales should accept the credit that is due them for being an integral cog in the Brandon machine.

I enjoyed the Documentary very much, I like the program better now that I know more about it. I saw a human, vulnerable, and emotional side of Coach Cozart that I would not have known was there if not for this film. I believed Coach Cozart when he stated that he started the Graves so that they would get beat, but all the while doing his damndest to prolong it. He was gracious in defeat, and it seemed to me that he was even a little relieved though obviously saddened.

My congratulations one final time to Brandon for having their streak end in such a sporting and memorable fashion. My Congratulations to South Dade and to Coach Victor Balmeceda for their fantastic performance and the graciousness they showed in victory. And my Congratulations to ESPN, and the Wrestling community for being the beneficiaries of such a fine broadcast.

"The Streak" on ESPN2

I was contacted by one of my sources and asked to please post the following information so here goes.

On April 29th at 9:00pm EST ESPN2 will air “The Streak”; the documentary of the 07’ – 08’ wrestling season of the Brandon Eagles. It will include the dramatic end of the longest streak in sports history, as well as Brandon’s triumphant victory in yet another state tournament.

“The Streak” in quotations… I coined the phrase nearly nine years ago when I began the campaign to get Brandon to wrestle a legitimate schedule, I wonder if ESPN reads the Spiderman and stole the name I not only fashioned but made fashionable.

LOL!!! Relax folks I am just kidding, no delusions of grandeur here, just a little levity.

Congratulations once again to Brandon, and also to South Dade.

Some of you are concerned that that site is experiencing a lull, well in fact it is. The meat of the season is over, and all there is to report now is match results from the off season which I find quite boring. There will be the occasional flare up, and when something happens I will be here to talk about it, but those events will be few and far between.

I can't make news where there is none. Besides, this is my M/O I kind of disappear in the off-season, I like taking a break; it brings me back refreshed and refocused. The site may in fact die down for now, but when things get hot again everyone will return to play.

So for now things around here will grow a little sedate, and if when things heat up again people decide to return great, and if they decide not to return, then so be it, I have had a great run and nothing last's forever, as we are aware that even Rome fell. I did what I set out to do, I proved I can have my own site and it can run on my content with your input, and most importantly with the freedom of expression which I happen to find sacrosanct.

So my apologies to those of you who need one, but this is the way it is.

If however one of you would like to take on some administrative privileges and add content to the site to give it more life, I would not be opposed. We would need to talk privately and see what we could agree to, but I would be willing to share the administrative part if one of you would like to take over for my off season semi hiatus.

Guidelines for Participation by Student-Athletes
in Coaching Schools, Camps, Clinics, Workshops
The following guidelines govern participation of students of FHSAA member
schools in coaching schools, camps, clinics or workshops for an interscholastic
sport.

1. Individuals. Students from FHSAA member schools may participate
as individuals in coaching schools, camps, clinics or workshops at any time of the
year without jeopardizing their interscholastic athletic eligibility, provided:
(a) Students participating in the event do not, in any way, represent their
school.
(b) Fees for the students who participate in the event are not paid by the
school, coach or school district.
(c) Students provide their own transportation or are provided transportation
by their own school. No student may be transported to or from the event by an
employee, athletic department staff member or representative of the athletic interests
of any school other than the school that the student currently attends.

1.1 Athletic Recruiting Forbidden. Athletic recruiting is a gross violation
of the spirit and philosophy of educational athletics. Athletic recruiting is unethical
and unsporting conduct, and is forbidden by FHSAA Bylaws (FHSAA Bylaw
7.6.1).

2.1 Athletic Recruiting. “Athletic recruiting” is any effort by a school
employee, athletic department staff member, or representative of a school’s athletic
interests to pressure, urge or entice a student to attend that school for the purpose
of participating in interscholastic athletics.

2.2 Improper Contact. “Improper contact” is contact, either directly or
indirectly, whether in person or through written or electronic communication,
by a school employee, athletic department staff member, or representative of the
school’s athletic interests with a student who does not attend that school or any
member of the student’s family, in an effort to pressure, urge or entice the student
to attend that school for the purpose of participating in interscholastic athletics.

4.2 Specific Prohibitions. Specifically prohibited arrangements, assistance
or benefits include, but are not be limited to, the following:
(c) Gift of clothing, equipment, merchandise or other tangible items.
(k) Promise of a position on an interscholastic athletic team or playing time
as a member of the team.
(l) Promise of assistance in securing a college athletic scholarship.
(m) Free or reduced costs to attend a sport or skills camp.

The polls are closed and its official, the majority of you (30%) believe that Kevin Whelan is Spiderman. I must say I agree, I voted for him myself. Good job out there people you got your man.

Of course there are those of you that believe Osorio is Spiderman (25%). To you I say Congratulations, you got your man, I would have voted for him myself, but I think I am Whelan.

Some of you are very confused and are not sure if Pardo (13%) is Spiderman, or Mahler (15%), or maybe someone else (16%) altogether. I thought for a while I was someone else, thank god I realized that I am Whelan cause it was driving me crazy.

Then there was one idiot that thought JL was Spidey, it a good thing for him we don't know who he is or the ridicule would sure induce vomiting.

At least no one thought Coney is Spiderman, I commend those that don't believe I am Coney, even if I am. ;-)

The Betrayal of Dewberrious

Act I

It was a dark time in the Land of Dadelous The Buccaneer team from the South was nearing the end run in a decade of dominance.

A new power was brewing in the central part of the Floridanus led by the villainous JD Robbinous the enlister. The Enlister brought with him a honed expertise from the distant land of Calif to usurp the crown that had for so long rested in the hands of the warriors from Dadelous.

Hence Robbinous secured the services of the finest mercenaries in the central land to thwart the South and usurp the crown.

Meanwhile, the great General Dewberrious recognized the coming of the storm, and knew that to restore order and the crown to its rightful place; he would have to begin training young warriors throughout Dadelous if the South was ever to regain the power.

General Dewberrious had a keen vision for talented warriors, and filled his stables with what he knew would be the future heroes that would regain the crown.

The General faithfully cultured and tended the development of these warriors, and this is where our story will focus for in fact 5 years hence in large part due to the very warriors that Dewberrious had prepared, the crown once again rested in the Southern lands.

But despite that victory and the regaining of the crown I must digress if you are to understand the true betrayal of Dewberrious.

Dewberrious as we have learned played a large part in training the southern warriors, among them his own adopted son Hallsious. But there were many others, their names are known throughout the land but not as pertinent to the betrayal of Dewberrious as the one. For that story we must return to the past.

Dewberrious was in the process of developing his warriors when he was approached by the nefarious Duke Nophonious, who had brought his son to the general for training. Nophonious entrusted the development and skills of his young progeny to Dewberrious with familial adoration, but it was merely a front to hide his true toxic and self interested passion.

For more than 6 full rotations, Dewberrious had done his best to prepare the young Nophonious for battle, he had led the Dukes son to fruitful campaigns in the junior divisions but now it was finally time for his ascension. In the Two Thousand and sixth rotation since the passing of the prophet, the adolescent Nophonious was promoted to senior warrior and readied for battle.

Too soon may have been his ascension, for many times he was defeated in battle. The impious Duke could not accept the lack of fortitude that his brood was displaying, and proceeded to disseminate a multitude of pretexts for the failures of his descendant.

“Too small are you my son, but you will grown and along with that so will your powers” he said.

"When larger a warrior you are, then will you vanquish the opposition, and you will be unchallenged in the land.”

But the nefarious Duke failed to recognize the presence and threat of a greater warrior than his own on the horizon.

ACT II

A year had passed since Duke Nophonious’s son had ascended to the senior ranks and began to battle with the top class of warrior. He had struggled to keep pace despite the faithful teaching of Dewberrious. But now a new season of battle was fast approaching, and the prodigal son had grown in stature and in girth.

“You are bigger now my son, surely you will dominate your class” said the Duke to his son. “No one will stand in your way.”

But the Duke had forgotten that Dewberrious had an adopted son of his own that was to ascend to the rank of senior himself this season. Yet Dewberrious’s son would surely suffer the same fate as had the son of Nophonious, for he was but a miniature warrior weighing it at under 100 stones.

Nophonious’s son However was now coming down to the 103 stone class from 110 stones or more, an unmistakable advantage, or so thought the Duke. The Season began and the Generals son Hallsious did not seem to be affected by his lack of stature, readily and frequently defeating opponent after opponent of larger mass.

The Duke took notice and thought it but a fluke. Still, he decided to err on the side of caution by foregoing what was to be the first encounter between his son and the son of Dewberrious in the Homesteadian games. The Duke proclaimed that his son had developed a mysterious illness that prevented his participation in the games, and held him out of competition.

The season was now in full swing, and Hallsious remained undefeated, the first true test of his valor however was fast approaching, as the Gmacus tournament was but weeks away.

The day came when the leaders of the various factions held a meeting to decided the rank of their warrior so they might be seeded for the Gmacus. Although undefeated in battle, Hallsious was new to the senior clashes, and was seated but 3rd in his class, behind the Dukes son and Mauricious the Pirate.

His Commander and the General were unperturbed however, for they were confident hat Hallsious could prevail.

The Gmacus tournament had arrived, and Hallsious was greeted with an unfavorable position in the battle Draw; he would have to face a seasoned opponent early in the contest named Armanious Harrisious. Harrisious was a warrior of impressive dimensions, likely the largest warrior in the 103 stone class.

Early in the battle Hallsious looked out matched, but his heart was large and his stamina great, he fell behind early in the contest but in the end used his superior stamina to outlast Harrisious and move on in the championship round.

The day had finally come, the battle between Hallsious and Nophonious was set,and it would take place when the orb of fire reached it’s zenith. There was excitement in the air, and the spectators wagered on the outcome. It was clear that Hallsious would be the underdog, and that made him a crowd favorite.

The General that had trained Nophonious now sat opposite him in his own sons corner of the pitch, from which he would command his warrior in battle. There were murmurs of displeasure from those present because they perceived an unfair advantage in Dewberrious presence in his son’s corner.

The battle began and Hallsious came out with a ferocious assault on Nophonious. It was all Nophonious could do to keep the little warrior at bay. Nophonious employed a tactic of defense and continued to back himself up to the out of bounds line so as to limit the potential success of his opponent’s ferocity.

It was not long before the contest official (Eddious Medinious) summarily warned Nophonious to reciprocate the attack or risk being penalized. Nophonious scored a glancing blow, but Hallsious scored with a counter offensive of his own.

Hallsious attacked relentlessly, and as the match wore on he managed to score a contest winning maneuver on his opponent in the final minutes of the battle.

The Duke angered by his son’s loss and unwilling to concede that the little warrior was superior screamed foul. His contention was that his son had been victimized by the contest official due to the presence of the famous general residing in Hallsious’s corner.

The Duke began a campaign of subterfuge and malevolence against General Dewberrious; severing a seemingly affable relationship, and exposing the Dukes true colors. The Duke brought his complaint before Queen Goldenious, who loved the General but was forced to decree that in future contest the general not be allowed to reside in his own sons corner.

The General was devastated by the Dukes betrayal, he questioned the many years he had spent training the Dukes son only to be treated like rubbish because he was no longer of use to the duke. But Dewberrious regained his focus and realized that what was important now was to prepare Hallsious for the final battle.

The battle for all fast approached, and 14 new champions would be crowned Kings of Floridanus, but not before two rounds of qualifiers. The warrior Hallsious was ready, and the District battle loomed.

Act III

The Battle drew neigh, and a rematch between Hallsious and Nophonious was imminent. There were whispers and rumblings that the General had taken personal affront to the way he had been treated by many of those whom he had faithfully trained. But none of that would forestall the rematch of these two combatants.

The morning of the first qualifier came, and the warriors weighed themselves as was customary. There was one big difference in the division, and that was that this time it was Hallsious that had received the higher seed due to recent victories against his top two rivals.

Hallsious would have to face the winner of Nophonious VS Mauricious. Most believed that that Mauricious would take care of business and the rematch between Nophonious and Hallsious would not happen, but Nophonious stepped up and won the match, setting the stage for what was shaping up to be a grudge match.

This time the arbiter would be the more experienced Pardonious, highly regarded as one of the top official in Dadelous. But before the match even commenced, the Duke began his rumblings of displeasure with the official. It was unclear whom he would have selected had he the choice, for the other two officials present were just as inadequate for his taste, one being Johnsonious the great (cousin to Hallsious), and the other was Medinious whom he had rejected from previous encounter.

This time Nophonious opened the contest with an early score, but then once again retreated to the safety of passively delaying his opponent’s counters without himself attempting to improve his position.

The arbiter feverishly gestured as if imploring Nophonious to come to the side and attempt to further subdue his opponent, but Nophonious was content to latch on to Hallsious’s legs and secure him in place obstructing his opponents ability to improve his own position.

Pardonious warned Nophonious but when he was ignored he was left with no recourse but to penalize the actions of the antagonist. Seemingly flustered, and unconfident in his ability to finish off Hallsious, Nophonious began to make technical errors and miscues in his starting position.

A flurry at the end of regulation tied the contest for Hallsious, and when the extra period was over, Hallsious had found himself victorious over Nophonious once again.

The Duke spilled out of the seats spewing hatred and venom towards the arbiter and the General, proclaiming to anyone that would listen that his son had been unjustly victimized by the nepotistic official.

He saved no lack of ill intent in his testimony, proclaiming to all that would listen that his offspring would not and could not ever receive a fairly officiated contest in Dadelous because of the admiration and respect that the local arbiters held for Dewberrious.

The regional event approached, and this time it was Nophonious that would have the harder road to the finals. This time he fell to Mauricious, and in subsequent fashion also fell to Harrisious.

Hallsious once again did his part and proceeded once again to thwart the larger seemingly superior Mauricious in the final contest of the qualifier. Nophonious’s loss to Harrisious demoted his position to 4th and final qualifier for the final battle.

Coming out in fourth position almost assured that another rematch between Hallsious and Nophonious was at hand because they would both appear on the same side of the grouping.

Nophonious did his part and advanced past his first two opponents, as did Hallsious. The stage was set, and the third and final contest would decide who the superior combatant was. This time the event would be held in a neutral arena, and with a neutral arbiter. What possible protestation could the Duke come up with next; he must have been assuredly pleased with the circumstances.

The contest drew near, the night air thick with anticipation and excitement once again. But the result would be no different. Hallsious went out with mace’s blazing, and immediately backed Nophonious to the line causing the official to promptly warn him to reciprocate the attack or risk being penalized.

The contest was not close, Hallsious dominated Nophonious from the onset, and the Duke could be seen in his seat in the coliseum squirming and writhing with the agony of seeing a neutral arbiter further castigate his progeny like neither of the previous arbiters had done.

Surely now he must realize that the illusion he had painted for himself that his son was unjustly and unfairly treated was but a mirage of his conscious self struggling to admit that the Generals son was nothing less than superior.

The Duke approached the General to offer congratulations on Hallsious having bested his own son. Then in cowardly fashion reached out for the hand of Hallsious himself and with Venom in his mouth proclaimed “let it be know that you have defeated my son for only the first time, for I still contend that the other two victories were ill gotten.”

It was by the grace to the gods and the Generals strength of will that the General himself did not grab the Duke and pummel him right then and there for his cowardly actions.

Later the next evening Hallsious would again face Mauricious the Pirate, Nophonious who had never so much as spoken a word to Mauricious went out of his way to speak with him now and advise him as to what strategic maneuvers might be employed against Hallsious, and he offered Mauricious good wishes and encouragement.

During the contest, Duke Nophonious could be heard spewing hatred upon Hallsious, imploring the arbiters to penalize Hallsious for this action or that, and vehemently demanding scoring points that never came for Mauricious exposing Hallsious’s flank to the pitch.

There would be delight in the horde that gathered to witness the spectacle. Many now watched Nophonious making a fool of him self as he openly rooted against Hallsious.

With merely seconds remaining in the contest, Hallsious was behind and his championship seemingly lost. But in the true warrior fashion, the never say die spirit in him emerged and he dug deep to find the courage to sling the Pirate onto his flank, secure control and in dramatic fashion become King Earlious Hallsious of the 103 stone class, and simultaneously leaving the Nefarious Duke Nophonious slumped, breathless, and red faced to languish in the truth of his betrayal and his duplicity over a former friend whom he has used for his own purpose but had now betrayed from envy.

Hey if no one says anything about it then why wouldn't they. If you let them they will steal your women too. Stand up or shut up! NFHS Questions to CoachesSurvey Says

One of my readers asked me to pleae start this topic and sent me some of the questions on the Survey. I understand that this has already appeared on other sites, but he feels not enough discussion took place and he thought that might happen here. So here it is.

Have these issues been a problem in your area

1. More than two team personnel in the corner during tournament competition.

2 The number of forfeits in dual meets (including dual-meet tournaments) in the lower weight classes (103, 112).

3 The number of forfeits in dual meets (including dual-meet tournaments) in the higher weight classes (215, 285).

4. A wrestler spinning his or her finger to request injury time when caught in a pinning situation.

5. A wrestler doing a back flip in the neutral position to get out of a single leg.

Would you be in favor of these rule changes

1. Adding to the definition of unnecessary roughness, a forceful slap to the head or face, and/or gouging or poking the eyes.

2. Removing the requirement that any wrestler disqualified because of flagrant misconduct not be entitled to any team points he or she has previously earned in the tournament.

3. Making the body scissors an illegal hold.

4. Adding “repeatedly creating a stalemate situation to prevent an opponent from scoring” to Rule 5-25-6 on Stalling.

5. Clarifying that hair in its natural state shall not extend below the eyebrows in the front of the face.

6. In dual-meet tournament competition, for each match won by default, disqualification, fall or forfeit, increasing the team points from six to seven.

7. In tournament competition, changing the five-match limit per day to a total time limit of 30 minutes of wrestling per day (excluding overtime), and eliminating the five-match-limit-per-day rule.

8. Removing the unsportsmanlike conduct penalty against the head coach if a wrestler reports to the scorer’s table not in proper uniform, not properly groomed, not properly equipped or not ready to wrestle and instead, making it a one-team point deduction for each occurrence.

9. Allowing a contestant to have documentation from a physician only indicating a specific condition such as a birthmark or other skin conditions such as psoriasis is not communicable and that documentation is valid for the duration of the season. Rationale: The burden of expense to the individual for weekly visits to the physician could prohibit that individual from competing.

10. Requiring a school representative be in the corner or proximity of the mat during a tournament match.

11. For dual meets and tournaments, allowing a second participant in pre-determined weight classes.

12. Making a three-point penalty whenever a wrestler spins his or her finger to indicate injury in a pinning situation.

13 Allowing the random draw for the beginning weight class for dual meets either immediately before the beginning of weigh-ins or immediately after the conclusion of weigh-ins.

Injury Time or timeout?You make the Callby: MoonKnight

For some time now there has been a pattern of using injury time for recovery, strategy, and the settling down of nerves by some wrestlers. In private circles some people consider this a strategic move, and believe wrestlers are being coached to do this in order avoid a match ending fall, for coaching instruction, or just for a breather. The more I speak to different coaches about this particular reoccurring situation, the more I find myself straddling the fence on weather it should be considered good strategy employed by the coach or simply a way off your back, much need advice, or a welcome rest by a devious competitor.

Below are some scenarios in which I have personally witnessed this so called “tactic” employed by some of the top coaches not only in Dade, but around the state. I have to reiterate that I do not have a stand on the matter and would just like to hear an open debate on the subject.

Scenario # 1

A tough wrestler has been shooting multiple times against a very good defender with no advantage being taken. The defensive wrestler has reserved his energies in order to initiate his attacks in the last minute of the last period and get that critical winning takedown when the opposing wrestler has been depleted of energy and is close to exhaustion by his constant attacks. This strategy has worked for the defensive wrestler throughout the whole season except that now he is facing more than just an opposing wrestler; instead he is now facing a very good strategic coach as well. With the plan in place the attacking wrestler calls for his injury time within the first 30 seconds of the third period and gets his much needed rest. After taking the full measure of the injury time and using it to not only rest but to strategize he gets up and capitalizes on the defensive wrestler’s inability to attack a well rested opponent and gets the takedown and wins.

Scenario # 2

A wrestler has dominated the whole match from start to almost finish. Somewhere within the match he finds himself giving up a takedown that critically affects his mental disposition and now defeat is eminent. The wise coach in the corner sees the eventual outcome and understands that he must do something to help his athlete regain his composure so he motions his wrestler to call injury time. The wrestler calls it and the coach uses the injury timeout for the settling down of his wrestler. After the injury timeout the aforementioned wrestler is able to finish the match and win when defeat seemed more than just likely but destined.

Scenario #3

A wrestler is leading in a match by a wide margin; say 7 or more point and is still being the aggressor in the match. He attacks his opponent one more time trying to secure a takedown to earn a major decision or better. The defender has been warned for stalling and in fact may have lost some points due to stalling. The defender catches his opponent on the attack and whips him to his back. The offensive wrestler struggle not to be pinned but exhaustion due to the advanced nature of the match has him on the brink, so he whips out the twirly finger gets off his back and wins the match.

The results are in for two of our most popular polls ever on the Spiders Lair.

On the first poll, who did the best coaching job this year?

The overwhelming victor was in fact Victor, Balmeceda that is; he garnered 51% of the votes with a total of 87 voters casting their ballots. Osorio earned second place with 21% of the vote, Kenny Johnson was 3rd with 11%, Jim Husk was 4th with 10% of the vote, and finally the guy who never gets enough credit with only 2% of the vote, Saul Tejada.

Who was the Best Wrestler in Dade County this Year?

This race was quite a bit closer, a total of 100 voters cast their ballots, and 45% of them felt that Earl hall was the wrestler of the Year. Running a close second Rodrigo Baez with 40% of the vote, then Shakendrick Sanders with 10%, Michael Chinchilla with 3 %, and finally James (Rat) Williams with 2%.

We would like to thank all who took part and voted their conscious. It shows that there is much interest in the Spiders Lair, as well as Intelligence and sentiment. We appreciate your participation.

If you are a wrestling official and you don’t enjoy being scrutinized, you are going to have a hard time doing your job in the future. In this age of the internet scrutiny will be brought on you like never before, and that is something that today’s officials will need to learn to deal with.

No official in any sport or at any level is perfect, but there are very good officials, average officials, and even some bad officials. The problem is that even the great officials miss calls; and at a tournament like the FHSAA finals, even great officials might miss several calls in the three day long event and after officiating dozens upon dozens of matches.

Judgment is a bitch of a thing, it involves what you believe to be the case; Control for example is a judgment call, and where one official may feel there is control, another might not be so quick to award points in the same situation. The important thing is that the official show consistency in the way he is willing to judge control, or lack there of.

There are times however that an official miss-applies a rule, and for that there is no excuse. It is the officials job to know the rules and apply them correctly, and I am less sympathetic to officials that miss-apply rules than I am to one who may have shown poor judgment because judgment implies and understanding, while rules imply overall knowledge.

There is a good selection of matches on Flowrestling that lend themselves to scrutiny of officials. Unlike other officials, I think this is a good thing, I think officials should see themselves on tape and be able to recognize their mistakes, why they may have erred, and how to avoid making that same mistake in the future. I believe it is a knife that cuts both ways; many times a coach will scream at an official and be upset with a call and video of the match may in fact vindicate the official. However, it can also serve to highlight that an official may have missed a call, and that is what we are here to talk about.

I am an official and I welcome the scrutiny, and if you are an official so should you. This forum is the perfect place for it so let’s talk about it.

I think this year more than any other there was lots of drama in Lakeland, and I think it will make for a good story.

In Fact, you may begin to look forward to a new fairy tale entitled “The Land of Dadelous”. It will be ready in a day or two, and somewhere in that time I will find a moment to answer all of your messages, and also get my work done.

3500 Calorie Formula:

3500 Calories to Lose A Pound: Is This Formula All Wrong?

Most fitness conscious people have heard that there are 3,500 calories in a pound of fat, so if you create a deficit of 3500 calories in a week, you lose a pound of weight. If you create a deficit of 7000 calories in a week, you lose two pounds, and so on. Right? Well, not so fast…
Dr. Kevin Hall, an investigator at the National Institute of Health in Bethesda has done some interesting research about the mechanisms regulating human body weight. He recently published a new paper in the International Journal of Obesity that throws a wrench in works of the “3500 calories to lose a pound” idea.

Some of the equations in his paper made my head hurt, but despite the complex math he used to come to his conclusions, his article clearly prompts the question, "3500 calories to lose a pound of WHAT?" His paper also contained a lot of simple and practical tips you can use to properly balance your caloric intake with output, fine tune your calorie deficit and help you retain more muscle when you diet.

Below, I’ve distilled some of the information into a simple bullet-point summary that any non-scientist can understand. Then I wrap up with my interpretation of how you can apply this data in your own fat loss program:

Calculating the calories required to lose a pound and fine-tuning your caloric deficit

* 3500 calories to lose a pound has always been the rule of thumb. However, this 3500 calories figure goes back to research which assumed that all the weight lost would be adipose tissue (which would be ideal, of course).

* But as we all know (unfortunately), lean body mass is lost along with body fat, which would indicate that the 3500 calorie figure could be an oversimplification.

*The amount of lean body mass lost is based on initial body fat level and size of the calorie deficit*

*Lean people tend to lose more lean body mass and retain more fat.

*Fat people tend to lose more body fat and retain more lean tissue (revealing why obese people can tolerate aggressive low calorie diets better than already lean people)*

*Very aggressive low calorie diets tend to erode lean body mass to a greater degree than more conservative diets.* whether the weight loss is lean or fat gives you the real answer of what is the required energy deficit per unit of weight loss

*The metabolizable energy in fat is different than the metabolizable energy in muscle tissue. A pound of muscle is not 3500 calories. A pound of muscle yields about 600 calories.

*If you lose lean body mass, then you lose more weight than if you lose fat.

*If you create a 3500 calorie deficit in one week and you lose 100% body fat, you will lose one pound.

*But if you createa 3500 calorie weekly deficit and as a result of that deficit, lose 100% muscle, you would lose almost 6 pounds of body weight! (of course, if you manage to lose 100% muscle, you will be forced to wear the Dieter’s Dunce cap)

*If you have a high initial body fat percentage, then you are going to lose more fat relative to lean, so you may need a larger deficit to lose the same amount of weight as compared to a lean person

*Creating a calorie deficit once at the beginning of a diet and maintaining that same caloric intake for the duration of the diet and after major weight loss fails to account for how your body decreases energy expenditure with reduced body weight

*Weight loss typically slows down over time for a prescribed constant diet (the “plateau”). This is either due to the decreased metabolism mentioned above, or a relaxing of the diet compliance, or both (most people just can’t hack aggressive calorie reductions for long)

Progressive resistance training and or high protein diets can modify the proportion of weight lost from body fat versus lean tissue (which is why weight training and sufficient protein while on calorie restricted diets are absolute musts!)

So, based on this info, should you throw out the old calorie formulas?

Well, not necessarily. You can still use the standard calorie formulas to figure out how much you should eat, and you can use a 500-1000 calorie per day deficit (below maintenance) as a generic guideline to figure where to set your calories to lose one or two pounds per week respectively (at least that works “on paper” anyway).

Even better however, you could use this info to fine tune your caloric deficit using a percentage method and also base your deficit on your starting body fat level, to get a much more personalized and effective approach:

15-20% below maintenance calories = conservative deficit

20-25% below maintenance calories = moderate deficit

31-40% below maintenance calories = very aggressive deficit (risky)

50%+ below maintenance calories = semi starvation/starvation (potentially dangerous and unhealthy)

(Note: According to exercise physiologists Katch & Mcardle, the average female between the ages of 23 and 50 has a maintenance level of about 2000-2100 calories per day and the average male about 2700-2900 calories per day)

If you have very high body fat to begin with, the typical rule of thumb on calorie deficits may underestimate the deficit required to lose a pound. It may also be too conservative, and you can probably use a more aggressive deficit safely without as much worry about muscle loss or metabolic slowdown.

If you are extremely lean, like a bodybuilder trying to get ready for competition, you would want to be very cautious about using aggressive calorie deficits. You’d be better off keeping the deficit conservative and starting your diet/cutting phase earlier to allow for a slow, but safe rate of fat loss, with maximum retention of muscle tissue.

The bottom line is that it’s not quite so simple as 3,500 calories being the deficit to lose a pound. Like lots of other things in nutrition that vary from person to person, the ideal amount of calories to cut “depends”…

Next week right around this time, Dade County would have already invaded Lakeland and started their dominating assault on its 3 day quest to return to Dade County with more Gold medals than all other counties combined in the 3A division.

I am predicting as many as 11 champs from Dade this year, and as few as 8 but not less, stay tuned, I will have more for you after the region tournament.

The Cuda smells Blood and seeks to avenge the loss twice delayed but must first depose the explorer.

The Buccaneer seeks the wind he will need to sail past them all, and a rematch with the Cuda will decide the battle.

The Explorer is lost in the storm and is the victim of a crowded sea, while the Bronco and the Cuda face off in round three; persistence and determination favor the Bronco once again as the region wreath hangs from his neck.

The Falcon from a long line seeks to achieve beyond his Brothers but a Buc will oppose him in quarter round.

The Bulldog sits on haunches waiting for a test that will come early as the Black Panther is fierce but falls bravely once again.

The Buccaneer finds his way in extended time and quells the lightning before falling to the hound in the final contest.

The T-Bred has not missed a step despite the defection of the Horse whisperer and faces the Spartan early who has moved up to oppose his charge.

The Explore wins two but can’t reign in the Horse’s advance which leaves him and the Spartan holding their heads.

A Spartan defector from a lesser realm joins the Pirate Master and seeks to prove his worth in a tougher venue; there an eagle will spread his wings and brazen talons to oppose him.

The former Spartan turned Pirate falls to the Horse in epic battle, and the Eagle falls victim to this too fruitful class and does not move to the Land of Lakes where only four may attend.

The Eagle will fly in from the North and take his perch before the final battle, there he must defeat a Panther with blood lust for birds.

In the South stands a Pirate unopposed the proud commander of a vacated class.

The Eagle bravely stands his ground, but too much swash and too much buckle from the Pirate are his undoing.

Tico the Pirates reign continues as this swash buckler from Hispañola moves on the wet land to defend his claim on the ultimate treasure.

The Gator comes with clutching jaws and hopes of feasting on his opposition, but a fierce fish looks to wound and repel the Reptile.

The Cavalier finds an opening and sets in motion his assault, as the Buccaneer from the dominant hoard will hope his sword arm holds before the onslaught.

Cavalier and Trojan face of in Semi round, but the Trojan falls in the strangle of Montero the RED

The Gators strength and agility keeps him in the battle, but he ultimately succums to the Cavaliers Rapier.

The American loyalist will stake his claim in early battle, and subjugate the obtrusive Explorer.

On the Bottom Kendrick the Freak rules this class with the might and agility of his thrust and parry, and there he’ll slay a Bull Dog in his path to the top.

In the End the Pirate Freak is too much for the Patriot and he moves on to conquer higher ground, while a Bronco that lost his Buc benefits from a fortuitous early loss to just make it back to the Dance.

A white Buc with a five o Clock shadow will ruin a Sting in anticipatory fashion.

The Hound stakes his claim in the upper half and finds a bearded Pirate with a penchant for denying access in the battle for the gold.

The Buccaneer with skills on high ground will ride and turn his opposition to dust and climb the podium to raise his gold standard.

The Spartan will hold his ground and pass more than just a few victims along the way among them a Patriot.

The Cuda must stop the Eagle, and the Brigand will need to avoid being stung to reach the semi round.

In the next to last battle, the Cuda seeks to stop the Brigand and advance to a round that has eluded him in the region, but too much is the Pirate for the battered fish.

The Spartan narrowly overtakes the Buc in the final moments and reaches the pinnacle that has eluded his mates

A Patriot warrior with bandaged knee seeks to continue his dominant assault, but will face and early test from an Explorer.

The Cobra hopes a quick sting can incapacitate and still his opposition but the great white Pirate with rebel blood has plans to thwart the serpent.

The Spartan anticipates revenge on the snake and an easy journey leads to that encounter but he is stung a felled in the process.

The Patriot is prepared with anti Venom, but it is an unnecessary precaution as he easily severs the Snakes head.

Yet another Pirate with lust for gold makes his way in top half.

The Explorer waits to prove his worth but first he must cure his demons with a Viper.

The Cobra must face the onslaught of the Savage Spartan beast.

Like 300 warriors, the Spartan slays the Pirate and forwards his assault on the Land of Lakes.

The Biggest Pirate will walk the line with Confidence, deposing early of a Cobra with venom lack.

1. South Dade - Not only does this team posses those unique qualies of arrogance and attitude that are needed to be the best but they also have one of the best ever strategic minds at the helm, Coach KW (Coach Balmaceda is not that bad either LOL). If any coach can make their team peak at the right time and have them all believing that it is them against the world it is Coach Balmaceda. His kids have a way of stepping up in big matches and tournaments that I have not seen since the old Husk/Southridge days. No team or idividual can come close to matching the South Dade boys athletic ability as well their seasoned mentality when it comes to big matches and big moments. Best team ever? Maybe, let's not forget the New England Patriots. The Dirty South has to finish with the team state title for this to truly be a great team or season.

2. American - I know in the past his teams have fallen flat at regionals but seeing what is happening at Hialeah with two great former area wrestlers now coaching there makes me wonder if Osorio was the problem. In one year his new team placed 3 at GMAC and had 6 in the finals. Corrrect me if I am wrong but I don't remember any of his Hialeah teams performing that well at GMAC. There is something different about his new team as well as the demeanor of the dynamic duo of Osorio and Baez. I will be the first to say, "I believe", so I will step out and say that they will shock everyone by taking second at the regional tournament. They seem to be well stacked with talent at everyweight and they wrestled like grizzled seasoned veterans at the GMAC tournament. Taking that into consideration as well as their dominating performance at their district tournament forces me to pick them second at the regional tournament.

3. Braddock - My man Tejada. Never in the conversation as one of the best coaches to grace our sport but he is definitetly one of the best. Every year you see them get pummeled by other teams in their duo meets and then without warning BOOM they show up and shock everyone by scoring massive points in wrestle backs and qualifying nobody's to the big dance. Yes, they have the wonder twins and they are impressive as hell. You can no longer say that Gabriel Chandler is the bad twin. They are both dominating their weight classes and now have their supporting cast at the right weights and working on all cylinders. Montoto, Villalobos, Fitz, Medina, and the whole rest of them will once again shock Dade county. While they are kicking ass and taking names people will still talk about Balmaceda, Osorio, Husk, Johnson, and others while Tejada quietly goes about his business and creating champions. Why hasn't this man ever won coach of the year honors?

4. Columbus - The Godfather has seen his best days and kids pass him by. He has done a great job with the kids at the Explorer factory but there still missing that grit and attitude that only comes from a well seasoned street kid. He now coaches silver spoon kids who for the most part will jump into their Lexus after the regional tournament and head to the Keys to forget yet another regretful season. Gulisien seems to be the only true tough kid he has and he is at a stacked weight class. I bet the poor kid wishes he had gone to 125. There is a very good chance that Gulisien stays home this year. Rio is a great wrestler but has never shown signs of peaking at the right time. Furthermore he looks like a kid who just can't wait for the season to be over so he can enjoy a huge meal at one of those expensive restaurants in the south. Husk's heavies are formidable but the poor guys look dead tired and at times lost out there in big matches. Makes you wonder if all those tournaments with 1A schools really backfired on them as the Spider or KW mentioned before. The fact that they have so many kids will give them the points they need to hold off a team that peaked at GMAC.

5. Southridge - I am not privy to the inside workings of the Johnson machine but man talk about a Jekel and Hyde identity problem. First they lose to the then bumbling Bulldogs of Braddock then they come right back and destroy the Americans in an impressive fashion. They follow that performance up with a second or third place finish at some obscure tournament where Columbus boasted their newly minted first place trophy. Then they quickly turn around and place second at one of the toughest tournaments in the state, the GMAC. Reading the newspaper results and then watching them live takes me back to old Vince Lombardi when he said, "What the hell is going on here". Now they show up to districts missing so many kids that I can only exclaim "what the hell is going on here". I am not sure where their at or what the story or truth might be, needless to say that it will hurt them at the regional tournament. Lastly, they move Morales up to 130 just to be humiliated and out classed by Metellus in their district final meeting. Now Morales has to go thru Nates of Hialeah, Gulisien of Columbus, and or Ramirez of South West just to make it to the big dance. All this and people are openly questioning Morales and his heart and passion for the sport as well as winning. The Spartans only have Passmore and Plain in the finals and that is if Passmore can once again dance around a very angry and disgruntled Garcia from American.

Recording Weigh-in information

It is in fact correct that the officials are supposed to write down the actual weight themselves, they are also supposed to write it in pen, and furthermore they are supposed to scratch out all the names of those wrestlers that did not weigh in.

This was the procedure implemented by the GMAC wrestling officials association in 2008.

Any coach that has an alfa master report or a weigh in sheet that does not fit this description should be treated as suspect.

That is not to say that they are cheating, but that they could be.

If in fact such is the case, and a challenges is issued over the weigh in form, the official who presided over the weigh in would have to corroborate that they did not follow the proper procedure, that the signature and handwriting on the sheet is or is not his, and that he remembers the situation and the wrestler in question.

It can get very complicated, and someone will have to pay the price if the procedures were not followed as prescribed.

DISTRICTS!The Road to a State Title Starts Here

District 13 is in the books and American clobbers all others with 11 finalist and 7 champions. I eehhhuummmm... Osorio is doing a great job at American if I do say so myself, especially considering that American has never smelled a district title that I can remember, and Osorio pulls one out on his first try.

Dist. 15 is today, I'll be there for the finals unless they go straight through and finish before I can get there.

Dist. 16 is tomorrow, you know I will be in the seats early for that one. Can't wait!

No reports from dist. 14, but I think it's today and I think Miami High pretty much has that one on lock.

Keep your eyes open, you just might catch a glimpse of your friendly neighborhood Spiderman, though you may not even know it.
